So a lot is changing pretty rapidly now. I hope everyone is staying safe out there! We just got shut down here. I'm still working though but it's getting shady over here now.

Anyways, I'm trying to keep up with development as much as possible. I've been working on scenes last week, both art and writing. It feels good to get back into the art phase as that's my favorite part. I'm working on spicing up the H-Scenes and adding a little more artwork (frames) to the scenes and planning them out. Trying to let it not get too out of hand with the artwork but man it makes it so much better in my opinion to really flesh the scene out.

Pale Horse has been helping to look over story notes and programming some complex pieces at the moment. Complex pieces like the battle/adventure system as well as spending time with his family and trying to stay safe during the crazy.

Emmanuel has was working on cutting apart a bunch of sound clips I got from Pixie Willow. That took him awhile as there's a lot of sound effects, mostly the "ooh's" and the "ahh's". I don't know when we'll be able to go back and program all of the wonderful sound effects into all of the current content as it's going to take a while. But at least the sound effects are going to be primed and boy do they sound amazebalz. Pixie is so good.

At some point, obviously further down the road, Pixie has expressed interest in fully voicing Lyla in the game. Which means I would need to look for a full cast but that's way down the road before I start hiring full VA talent. I really want to get to that point when funding gets a little better :) It's going to be so hot.

Anyways, I hope everyone is enjoying themselves. I've started developing a cough and tightness in my chest so hopefully it doesn't mean anything too bad. May get tested if it gets worse and keep everyone posted if it'll delay development.

Also, if you like music like I do, I stumbled onto this band called Seven Spires and I've been greatly enjoying their music.

It is probably just a normal cold. Keep yourself warm and hydrated and if it isnt in a week better call your healthcare and ask for advice. I hope you get well soon.

Honestly, I don't care for voice acting in visual novel-esque games. Most of the time it's annoying because I can advance through the text faster than they can speak, and voice acting is quite expensive for the little it matters to me. I know a lot of people don't share my opinion, but just putting it out there. Don't feel like you HAVE TO do full voice acting for it to be seen as a complete game. I would rather good writing.

I hope everyones doing well out there!

So far we're doing well. We've been getting a lot of work done and have been making a lot of good progress. I spent a lot of last week reverting back to project admin and tech support. With some of the suspension hits that have happened recently on Patreon and with Google, I focused my energy on building a server and migrating my project data in a centralized location in my house alongside cloud backup. The server is up an running and everything is running smoothly now :)

This weekend I also took a step back from this updates dev work and wanted to just hammer out a direct path for the direction of Lyla's Curse. We have laid out the ground work and have made the story more concise to the point now all of the way through to the end.

I'm really excited about this and am really glad we decided to take a step back to really nail this down. It's still not completely locked down but the focus here was really making sure the story we have planned is going to be an interesting one. So minus the H-Content, I'm hoping the story alone will stand on it's own legs and all of the h content is just a major bonus.

As far as current development goes for the current update, I'm returning my focus back to closing out tasks for this update so we can send it out to everyone when it's complete. We're kind of working on both content for this update and the next update in tandem. As some of the features we want to implement for the next update have a very long dev cycle so would need to be worked on through multiple update cycles for it to have enough time to be completed. That feature mainly being the combat/adventuring system we're trying to nail down. With the words combat system, we're not going try and create an actual jrpg combat system in a visual novel, but more like a hybrid story based combat with basic stats to drive combat. The focus here is mostly on just something direct and fun while adding a little bit of the classic text adventure styling (but with imagery and sweet chibi animations :) ) Anyways, that description may change as we work on it more lol.

Hey everyone!

Hey everyone! Just wanted to give a quick status update on how development is going. Pale Horse and I have been making head way. Currently we're each focused on two different aspects of development.

Voodoo Monkey

Currently, I've been focused on writing new scenes, developing lore and have started working on the art assets for those scenes. Currently the scenes being added into this update are mostly additional H content. We're not quite ready to progress the main story as of yet as we're developing the mechanics needed for that content. Those always take awhile to develop and we want to take our time to make this really cool.

Pale Horse

Pale Horse has been focused on developing the mini adventure game loop and battle system. He's also pushed a rudimentary reputation system into the repository for us to start building off of. The reputation system may not have a direct effect on the content from this update but will at least be in place for future content updates. The reputation system will track and unlock various event aspects in the Hunting Arc.

Another system we've been going back and forth with/redesigning is the adventure game loop. Essentially how we want to handle the story based encounters and the players path as they progress through the tournament.

Hey everyone! It's been awhile since the last dev blog. A lot has been going on and a lot dev work has been going on.

We've got the pawnshop mini game recoded and is now working in game. It still needs more stability testing but it's working :) I've been doing a lot of behind the scenes work right now for the new content. Still focused on writing, story planning, lore writing and art development. It's getting there though!

Another note: Since Google seems to be cracking down on adult oriented content being distributed on their Google Drive platform, future links and versions to game builds will be distributed on Mega only from now on. If you can recommend any similar mirrors to Mega I'll give them a shot. Apparently google is straight up deleting accounts that have been found to distribute what they deem is adult content.

I hope everyone is doing great! Just wanted to give a quick update on our progress. It'll be short and straight forward we're plugging away.

Pale Horse has managed to rewrite the code for the Pawn Shop mini game and it's now put back into the game. We still need to test it more but at least it's currently implemented and now working :) We've been discussing how to handle mini games in the future and have been trying to nail down a good set of requirements for the framework. We want to create one or three basic frameworks that all future minigames and interactive games would work under. This way we won't need to design new systems for new elements each time we hit that road block and can just focus on content.

I've (Voodoo Monkey) have been focusing on structuring all of the tasks for this update and going over all of the admin work as well as writing new H scenes and doing concept art for future content. I'm kind of all over the place at the moment and am reigning myself in to focus specifically on this updates content.

For videos, I've finally finished converted all of the recorded media from the last update and will also start compiling videos. I didn't realize how long it would take to convert all of that media. When I screen record, I record to *.flv instead of directly to *.mp4. Reason is, if my computer crashes in the middle of recording, an *.flv file will be fine and just cut the file off where it crashed and can still be used. An *.mp4 on the other hand needs the recorder to be stopped so it can neatly pack the video into an *.mp4. If the file does not get the chance to do this, it will corrupt the file you'll lose it. The only problem with recording to *.flv is I then have to reencode all of the media to *.mp4 to use it which takes forever but the insurance is so worth it.

Anyways, I hope everyone is well, I'll post more content up soon!

Hey everyone! Alright, so I totally missed last weeks dev blog due to the public release being sent out. So, the first question I know a lot of you have is where the heck is the Android Release? Well, to be honest, I still don't have it back yet. I don't know why it's taking so long but my normal guy that ports my builds over has gone awol. So I'm going to send it to another porter. I'm sorry for that! I know a lot of you have been patiently waiting for that build as Android is your only way to play the game at the moment. -____-

Since dealing with the game releases, what have we been doing?

Pale Horse has been focused on developing the framework for our battle mini game system. This framework will be the foundation for a lot of the mini games for future content. Because of the trouble we've been having with implementing the "store working mini game" We've been talking about restructuring the entire experience completely and creating a new version using the framework from the battle system. We've got a mockup of the new layout with stand in art work that I'll show in another patron post ^_^

Voodoo Monkey (me) has been focusing on concepting new areas of the main story, armors for Stephen and writing out new H-Scenes. Right now my main content focus for the next content update is add more H-Scenes into the game. Right now, the extra scenes will definitely not be balanced as it's progressing Lyla's sloot factor incredibly quickly so future updates, we'll focus on rebalancing the points distribution and how fast Lyla corrupts. But in the mean time it'll just turn into a dirty free for all for a little bit.

Anyways, that's been the primary focus, trying not to get distracted with scope creep and trying to keep the update rounds much smaller in content so I can send them out much more frequently.

I'll be posting up the new concepts real soon. Also, I've recorded about 95% of my work on all of the content from the last update so I'll be compiling videos showing my process!

Side Note: I've also been focused on learning new techniques for helping me concept out the environments faster. I've been spending a lot of time learning the Grease Pencil tool in Blender to directly sketch and draw in 3D space. I'm starting to get the hang of it, if this works out, the quality of the environments will increase by a lot.

Personal Side Note: This weekend has been tough, I had a pet medical emergency and had to put my little furbaby down. I didn't get a lot of dev work done this weekend.

hey there, i have the "little" problem, that every time i try to do the quest for her balcony door, the game crashes when i talk to the orc, allready in adminmode, all the other stuff works great, just that scene is weird.

One softlock I found: If you decide to finish the last category of magic for the practical (Necromancy) before taking the gift from Sock, the game softlocks you such that nothing can be done. You guys might wanna fix that. I also got a rollback error when interacting with the curtains the second time you enter the Principal/Headmaster's office. I assume it's because you're not with Sock anymore, but you might want to look at that one too.

Wow wow wow Welcome to all of the new supporters! I'm am so happy that this release has brought this much attention! It was a little bit rough with the bugs thank you to everyone for your patience and willingness to help Pale Horse and I get these fixed in a timely manner. The public release should be coming out soon along with the android release.

Right now, I've been taking this time to sit down and plan the next round of content and tasks. I'm focusing on smaller content round and more focused tasks to get the next set of content into your hands sooner. I'm bound and determined. :)

For the next round of content I want to focus on adding more scenes that I've already had planned but couldn't make this update and redesign the main menu. And based on some of the feedback I've received, tweak some of the menu readability and find a proper place to add the end of content notification so that you're not spinning your wheels.

Again, thank you to everyone who has supported us and continues to and to all of the new supporters! This is going to be a great year and I hope this kicked it off well for everyone.

Third times a charm right? Thank you again for everyone reporting any bugs you've found and thank you for your patience!

From the latest hotfix (V0.1.42), it looks like we introduced a brand new bug that followed a lot of the Sock scenes called the "sock_soapy" bug. This was introduced because we increased Lyla's slut level which opened up a few new levels of scenes but also unlocked some new Sock sprite body animation checks. Basically, we forgot to add a default value for the new variable and the game didn't know what to do.

  • It looks like there was another bug that would take some users back to the main menu. We were not able to reproduce that in any way. I think I figured out why it's doing that from talking to other players, make sure you're not using an old save. It'll break the game and cause that error. If you run into it, could you make detailed note on what you did and were doing when it kicked you back and post in the #report-bugs-here channel on the Lylas Curse Discord?

A final note: don't use old saves from previous builds (pre V0.1.40)

Last week was intense! But I'm glad I was able to get the update V0.1.40 published to the first round of Patrons.

The release story is kind of funny. I was going to a gaming conference last week and was bound and determined to get this release done before leaving for the conference on Thursday. I've been working on the debugging and extending some scenes for over a week and the final push was pretty heavy. I ended up working 22 hours straight on New Years day to close everything out and finish all of the testing and code fixes. Ended up redrawing older sprites that day as well (because I'm a masochist apparently.) Buuuut, Thursday morning at 7:30, I got it the release sent out, took a 3 hour nap, then drove a to the conference a few hours away haha and networked with other devs the whole weekend.

Pale Horse is the man. He held the fort down last week while I was out. And thank you to everyone who sent all of the bug reports in in such a timely manner. Pale Horse was able to fix the bugs as they came in and we were able to release two new hot patches to make the game hopefully pretty stable now. At the conference, at night when I would go back to my hotel, I was reviewing the updates on my laptop pushing hot fixes out lol. Then go back to the conference.

So, I'm planning to send the next release round to the rest of the Patrons this Wednesday. Public should be next week or two. After this release round, I'm going to wait for any bug reports. Then I'll send the game out to be converted into Android. The public release should be available on PC-MAC-Android when that time comes.

Anyways, welcome to all of the new supporters and thank to all of the existing supporters who have been there with me for awhile. You have no idea how much I appreciate it. It keeps me motivated knowing people think this game is alright :)

This year, should be different with content releases. Now that the game code has been refactored for the most part, now we can focus on just content. And I'm going to really attempt keeping the future updates a lot smaller so that I can release it out to everyone sooner and keep it more regular. I'm already working on the next content :)

Christmas is here! Pale Horse has delivered his final bits of code Monday night. I need to bug test those new features and scenes and can wrap up this update finally.

Because of Christmas this week, I'm off to my family for a few days and will most likely not have any time do any work on the game until Friday night and this weekend. When I vet this update and make sure all of the final components are working and in place, I can send it out finally. I'm looking at a release of some time next week ^_^

So close! I've spent this week going over the build and trying to root out as many bugs as possible. Also putting some final polishing on the new scenes. I don't want to send this out to the first round of supporters until it's pretty stable. I want this to be a grand enjoyable experience!

Since the last update, the game has been completely rewritten from the ground up. Quite literally. I'm really proud of the work the Pale Horse is doing, if any of your guys are programmers, I would definitely take a peak under the hood of this build and compare it to the last build ^_^

I don't want to land a definitive date yet as Pale Horse is still tweaking and moving things around a little. I've been coming in behind testing and fixing bugs as I find them. I've also redrawn some of the existing art as well. I decided to also just finish out the artwork for a scene we were initially planning to pull out until the "next" update after this one. But while going through the code, I saw Pale Horse already programmed that new scene, dialogue and everything. So I was just like "F IT", and decided to finish the art out for that scene. It's going to be a great scene I think you guys will enjoy..."Don't drop the soap."

I just gotta say, if anyone complained before about the game lacking in lewd content, I think this update is going to remedy that.

Hey everyone, this'll be another really quick dev blog. Right now we're at the tail end of the update and working as best and as fast as we can. There won't be anything exciting in this status update as it'll be the same as last week.

Voodoo Monkey

I'm currently setup to assist Pale Horse in whatever grunt work he needs. If he needs a hooker, I'm going to corner to get him one. If he needs drugs...I'm going to the corner again to buy drugs off of the hooker.

So in the mean time, I've been focused on setting up Hacknplan and migrating my entire game project into it as a project management tool. It's slow going as I'm trying to capture everything from the beginning and writing up a proper/organized "Game Design Document". Taking the time to properly set it up like I am is going to do wonders with orgnization and planning with where the game currently sits and how far from completion we are with all of the planned features and content. I've also been working on planning some of the beginning stages of the next update (after the upcoming one). So hopefully, when this update is out, we can take a short rest and hit the ground running on the next content.

Pale Horse

Currently in a drug induced caffeine rage while he slams his keyboard against the wall in the hopes it'll help finish coding the game faster. Who knows, maybe he'll roll a natural 20 and hit all of the perfect keys to fix all of the bugs...of the entire world.


Anyways, that's what we've been up to this week and are planning for this week. ^_^

Alright, this is going to be a short one, not a whole lot of action happened this week since the Thanksgiving break. By the way my Thanksgiving was great! I ate so much, pretty sure I gained a bunch of weight with all of the food.

Both Pale Horse and I have been out for most of last week with family. I still hopped on when I could, was able to still make some development head way.

Like I said in the last dev blog, I finished all of the art finally...as far as I know. I wrote up the last of the basic dialogue scenes for the various clickable points in the Bathroom and Balcony areas today and sent them off to Pale Horse.

Speaking of Pale Horse, he should be starting on putting my art package into the game and finalizing the update which should take about 2 weeks, then we can send it out :)

I'm really excited and am now going to be playing support to Pale Horse as we finish out the update. I'm really excited as so much work has gone into this update. Anyways, now to start on the final phase. More to come ^_^

Yay! We're on the home stretch now. I've finished all of the art and am sending the new asset packets to Pale Horse to start incorporating them into the scenes and replacing some of the placeholders ^_^

Now! Before you get too excited we still need a couple of weeks for final testing and fixing some last minute things and incorporating a few more features but the big chunk is out of the way and it feels amazing :) Thank you for being patient! Just a little longer. And with Thanksgiving this week, we won't be able to go hard at it this week @.@ So we're planning the final sprint to start early next week when we're back from visiting our families.

Voodoo Monkey - Art Assets

What's more to say other then the art is done ^_^ and I gotta say, some of these scenes are looking really good. I'm really excited for them. Some of you have seen the previews and I can tell from the reactions that it's going to be great.

This week, there won't be much to report with the holiday other then I did take off work on Wednesday so I can squeeze in more dev time before packing my car up and heading to my parents for Thanksgiving.

Pale Horse - Big Fixes

Pale Horse has been waiting for my slow ass to finish up my assets and send it his way. This week he's got the same plan as me, not a lot of dev work will be done this week due to the holiday and he wants to focus on getting some last minute work done for his job. Then can start fresh and crush it next week.

Side Note:

I have also decided to transition to Hacknplan as my new Project Management suite and G-Suites. Now Hacknplan goes much more in depth then Trello but with one issue, it doesn't allow for public boards. Apparently the feature is coming so in the mean time, I'll try to mirror a broader scope onto Trello for any one who still likes to follow along what we're doing. I'm going to minimize the information on Trello to be more relevant to the current update being worked on so you can use it more like a progress board then anything.

I'm note planning to start the migration and setup until after this update is done. I'm really excited to do so to be honest as I feel this is going to help me tighten my scope and get better organized and efficient to what tasks we're tackling. I still do have a goal to get down to a 1-2 month release window. I know I keep saying it but I'm slowly figuring out how to do ^_^ I swear...

Also thank you to everyone who continues to follow and support this project! Great things are in the works and your support keeps it going strong! I'm so pumped.

Hey Everyone! I hope your week has been amazing! Mine was alright. As usual, thinking about/creating new Lyla content so that's always fun. As an artist, it's so surprising to me how drastically different the content I'm making is (quality wise) to what I was creating for this game when I first started. I've grown so much as an artist and it feels great. It also drives me crazy because there's so much existing content/artwork that I was to recreate but also want to keep moving forward.

Voodoo Monkey - Art Assets

This week I focused bathroom content and working down the remaining list of remaining assets. The Bathroom BG is finished so now the only content left for me to draw are just some straggler scenes which will be much faster than drawing the backgrounds (those always take me longer than usual because they're not my strong suit...yet). I am very excited though, there's so much content now dealing with her piercings ^_^

I've been sharing a ton of my progress on the #patreon channel of my discord server. I share as much as I can here as well but it's so easy to share quick screenshots on their haha.

During breaks from working on art assets, I've been taking a lot of notes about lore and developing more lore history, I've had a recent flood of inspiration to flesh this world out more. I've honestly been having so much working on this game this week

Just wanted to make a post my process for one of the new areas. Hopefully it's not too much of a spoiler. If you don't want to see it don't read the rest of the post @.@

So one of the lessons I was combating when creating this illustration was really trying to capture a lot of energy in this environment. I'm not quite happy with the BG for outside of the Cafe and even inside of the cafe as they feel so stiff and the architecture design needs a lot of improvement so I plan to go back and redesign those areas in the future.

I think I'm improving a lot more though. As you can see from my concept image, there's a lot of energy captured in it, even though the perspective is all over the place, it just feels good.

I also started laying it up in 3D to follow my approach from the last environments.


Well, I started doing it in 3D and was realizing how stuff the design and proportions were becoming. They were starting to stray heavily from my concept so I decided to just dump this and started drawing the linework setting up a perspective grid.

After laying this up and rigidly following my perspective grid, I was not happy. The BG was looking incredibly stiff. The design isn't the greatest, so I decided to dump it again. I referenced back to my concept art for the area and was trying to decipher why it still looks way more appealing to me then my attempts at the final illustration. I decided to take another stab at it and think I'm starting to figure things out. I decided to free hand it completely and just follow my "artist intuition" and I think it's working out for the better.

I'm definitely liking this a lot more. Enough to move forward and finish it so I can move onto the next asset. There's still some issues but I've learned my lesson and can't keep doddling. You'll see the new love and care represented in future BG's....until I learn more lessons! HAH.

And here's the final layup with all of the layers. I've always been recording everything I work on so I will post all of those at some point ^_^

This just in, I was finally able to catch the Joker last weekend. That movie was something else, definitely a work of art. I really hope DC moves forward with this style for future films.

Now back to our programming.

Another week down and more tasks are being closed out. ^_^ It's getting there and it's going to be glorious!

Voodoo Monkey - Art Assets

I've completed all of the required assets needed for the Balcony scenes. I've got a teaser going out tomorrow for it :) It's going to be a fun set of scenes. The assets left to complete keeps getting smaller and smaller. I've been spending a lot more time with these trying to put more care then usual in the art. I'm really excited for these and can't wait to show everyone all of the work we've been doing.

Off topic, I also setup a new G Suites account and have migrated my project files into this new online service. I've been using google drive as my primary cloud storage for this project but have been wanted to move to something a little more official. At some point I also want to build a dedicated website for this project and any future projects as well. That way there'll be a home outside of Patreon for this project that people can snoop around in :).

I've also been thinking of migrating my Trello account over to hacknplan.com which is a similar kanban board style task manager but focused primarily for game development. The features it has over Trello are really nice, the only problem is they don't yet support public boards (it's on the way though), so if I do that, the visible trello updates would go away and really like the fact you guys have to option to check out what I have going on and see if I've been slacking off or not. If any of you have used hacknplan before, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it as a service.

Pale Horse - Bugs

Pale Horse has been focusing on posing for the scenes and buttoning up loose code like last week. His portion is just going to take a little bit but we're estimating that we'll both should be closing out our tasks at about the same time.

Here's a procedural shader I made for the material of Lyla's Robe. Zoomed out it doesn't look like much but there's a lot of detail in the cloth. I'm not great at sculpting but in what little free time I have, I do want to eventually 3d model and rig Lyla.

This was a solid dev week with a slight hiccup. When I look back, the last update was released publicly August 12th...That's incredibly disheartening to me with how long these update rounds take me as I'm doing my best putting in dev time almost every week night and devote a lot of my weekends for dev work and the fact you all are still patient with me and continue to support me to follow me is still very motivating so I thank everybody who's been following me on this journey to make Lyla into a giant slut.

Anyways enough of that mushy stuff, lets get back to business :)

Voodoo Monkey - Art Assets

So I was really hoping to get both of the Balcony and bathroom environments completely finished this weekend....but was not able to. The Balcony BG is completely illustrated but I decided to do two versions which I think will make the balcony scenes that much better. I'm doing two angles, one is a top view so you can see Lyla hanging out there but the other is a view from the ground so you can see what people on the ground will see when she's hanging out in skimpy clothes drinking tea. Originally the Balcony scene wasn't going to be as intense as it is now since I ended designing and drawing the whole city in the background which took awhile. I've got all of the framework completed for the Bathroom BG and have started inking it, I just need to finished doing my inks, color and lighting.

I've been focused primarily on the Backgrounds and the shower scenes this week as the backgrounds were going to be very time consuming but they're almost out of the way :) The rest of the scene sprites and artwork needed won't take me much time once I can jump onto them. So I'm really pushing as hard as I can to finish all of this to push the update out this month. I'm just trying to be careful to not push my self into burnout and I'm almost always skirting that state....hehe constantly trying to find the balance of how little sleep one can run on constantly lol.

Pale Horse - Bug Fixes

As usual Pale Horse has been focused on preparing the code and hunting bugs. Another bug has been found where the new code is breaking the pawnshop "work" mini game. So in the mean time, he's going to try as best as possible to fix it but if I end up finishing all of the art before he has a chance to, we may bypass the Pawnshop "work" mini game for this update and just give a small skip scene that explains Lyla worked and has received an average amount of tips and fix it for the update after.

He's also been working on posing the scenes as well which is a huge load off my back if he can get at least most of the framework in. It's surprising how long it takes after writing the script for a scene, loading it into the code, then going back through the script and adding in all of the queues for the sprites. And I kind of go overboard adding new sprite updates in-between basically every piece of dialogue. If a scene has 200 lines of dialogue, after posing is complete, the number of lines will usually double or triple in size. So long story short, I'm forecasting that when I complete all of the art, there should be an incredibly short window to review the code Pale Horse has been working on, adding in my tweaks for the scenes then release. Another thing, while we're still working balancing out, Lyla will now start with a shit ton of gold.

This actually reminds me, I don't think any old saves will work for this update, so you'll definitely want to start fresh on this. There's just too much changing to transfer in kind of save compatibility.

Just my $.02: Honestly, I like her better the way she is. Plenty of absurdly big bosoms in the H-gaming world already. It's an interesting look and would be cool for a temporary spell effect or something, but I'm hoping you leave her as she is.

Oh man, sorry for the late reply, thanks for your input. I've actually been going back and forth. For some reason whenever I draw pinups of her, I tend to draw her much larger breasts. But in game scenes I've been doing with smaller (or current) breasts. So I've been going back and forth as I plan to update her sprite in the future, haven't decided if her bust will actually go up or not.

Another week in development has passed. Lets get into it!

Voodoo Monkey - Art Assets

Surprisingly with having to go to a wedding this weekend, I was still able to get more art assets done than I thought. Even with Outworlds coming out (which of course I had to at least play a little bit of it. It's a ton of fun.) I've been especially having a lot of fun on this current scene that I'm working on which is Lyla "testing the limits" of her piercings ;)

I posted a preview for patrons as it's a spoiler and very not safe for work. I'm probably going overboard since I've been really looking forward to finally working on this type of content for the game. Which is content focused on her nipple rings. In these scenes I'm doing around ~11 illustrations showing her in different states of pain/pleasure as she hangs more weights off of her rings (Since the rings are enchanted to make her breasts incredibly durable.)

As far as the other art, I'm plugging away at other required art as well as much as possible. Once I finish these I can send them to Pale Horse who is ready them to be dropped in as he been working on preparing the code for these scenes already.

Pale Horse

Pale horse has been primarily focused on the same tasks as last week which is working incorporate the new scenes I wrote as well as the features listed on his task list in trello. These things take time to iron out the bugs and I'm thankful to have him focusing on these tasks and allowing me to concentrate on really upping my art game.

Ninehorsehitch and DeFrancofan67

Ninehorsehitch has finished writing the first draft of a new sidestory which is called "Fathers Day". It's a more comedy focused piece but still very fun none the less. Sock gets into more trouble as usual ^_^

Defrancofan67 has finished his editing pass on the story and now I just need to do a final edit, draw a cover image and send it out to all of you wonderful peeps!

Anyone excited for Luigis Mansion 3 coming out? And what're you dressing up as for Halloween this year?

Another wonderful post, another wonderful week in development ^_^

Let me jump right into it.

Voodoo Monkey - Art Assets

I was able to crush a lot art this week. We're getting ever so closer! There's a lot of art assets going into this build and hopefully it'll be gloriously dirty. I actually took off Friday so I can have a 3 day dev session which helped a lot. I'm still working on the new backgrounds for the two new areas as those always take me awhile, but working in 3d and moving to sketching concepts over those grey boxes has been helping develop ideas much faster. This also made me realize, at some point in the upcoming updates I want to redraw Lyla's body sprite and sneak it in. Her sprite was the first "released" asset created for the game so it's technically the oldest, and I've much improved since then. I ended up drawing a new body for her in the new shower scenes that I'm really liking a lot.

Funny fact, Lyla's sprite alone consists of a total 183 individual art assets to generate how you see her in game. Oh dang, I just checked how many sprites are currently in the game (not counting the build we're working on) and there's over ~1026 art assets in the game. Lyla's character takes up 20% of total art files @.@

Anyways, by the end of the week, I sent Pale Horse a good sized asset package to put into the game along with a bunch of stand in art that he can use for testing and incorporating into the scenes. What this means is when I finish the rest of the art assets, they can just drop right in with the scenes mostly coded in which will greatly reduce the final coding and testing passes which means faster release for this update which is exciting.

Pale Horse - Bug Hunting

Pale Horse has been hating life as of late. In his masochistic ways of introducing his refactored code and merging it into my build has opened up the most epic of bug hunts. As you can see from his list, he's squashed all them but a few random ghosts are still eluding his victory...the Mew of bugs has been taunting his dreams. Essentially some hooks are still referring back to my old code branches.

But there is light at the end of the tunnel, in his seething anger to bring mass genocide to these bugs, he's incorporated more basic UI and proper menus now into the game (note that these are still proto menus as their final look will change significantly when we can create final art for them)

Emmanuel (BRKN HVN)

He's working on creating a new Shower sound fx. Don't know why I didn't think about that need at the time but you'll see why it's needed in future NSFW teaser post.

Another wonderful week has gone by and we're still plugging away! Things are going good. And to address the elephant in the room. Yes, I made proper developed medallion that goes on Lylas chest. It's the symbol of her school and is imbued with special properties that helps attract higher concentrations of magic to the wearer. Kind of like a +10 mana boost in game speak. Anyways, other than looking cool at the moment, it's really just a well developed piece of concept art. Enough of the lore, let's talk about development throughout the week.

At this moment, we're still plugging away at the same tasks from last week.

Voodoo Monkey

I'm still working on various art assets. Focusing primarily on developing the bathroom scene and the shower. I did live stream some of that action throughout the week. I'm going to try livestreaming more while I'm working in case anyone wants to hang out. Currently Picarto is not recording my live sessions and I'm not sure why but I'm still recording them on the harddrive so I can post up some sped up timelapses when possible.

Pale Horse

Still plaguing Renpy land while riding a top his trusty stead "Python". Bugs look under their bed for Pale Horse before going to sleep. He's still working in new framework and tidying up all of this hooks. This'll take time, but it will be glorious. Great thing is, once I finish the artwork, it'll be ready to drop in as he's already begun adding in the initial dialogue scripts. Hopefully when the art is finished, there won't be a long coding period and release of the new update should follow shortly after. Not promises just speculation :)

Emmanuel (BRKN HVN)

He's delivered some wonderful UI sounds this week as well as Final Fantasy inspired "Sleepytime" transition which sounds wonderfully dreamy.


Discord News:

For those on my Discord Server, I've setup some new webhooks using IFTTT which now will post official Voodoo Monkey Twitter action in the #socialmedia-updates channel as well as minor Trello updates. The old Trello bot broke a few months ago and hasn't been updating the #trello channel which was a bummer because the server would constantly ping our progress.

I was able to restore minimal tracking with Trello which is still better then nothing and will now post in the #socialmedia-updates channel whenever new cards are added.

So a quick run down on what we've been working on this week. (Also thinking of change the "Status Update" title to just "Dev Blog #xx" since I'm planning to do these weekly now.)

Voodoo Monkey - Art Assets

I've been bouncing around on different art assets and doing admin work for the project. Sadly, I did not get as much art assets created as I wanted to this week. Some personal stuff came up which threw my schedule off. I'm planning to makeup for my loss in production this weekend.

Pale Horse

Pale horse has been killing it this week. He's put on his exterminator hat in excitement for the new Terminator movie and has been terminating a ton of bugs. With the code restructuring, as expected, there's been a ton of new bugs and open loops that have shown up. But it's all for the better. Under the hood, it's going to be a brand new game essentially. To the player, it'll look the same for the most part. All of the magic behind the curtains though will now allow for proper quest tracking and notifications in game of new/completed tasks; hints system as well. Pale Horse is working on a day/night cycle which in the future will start attributing to exhibitionist scenes at night. In game proto-menu's are in place and working. They're not the final design but they'll at least allow proof of concept and getting the mechanics working.

Hey Everyone, just wanted to give a quick rundown on what we've been doing throughout the week.

Voodoo Monkey - Art List

I've begun working on the new art assets for the finished written scenes and will be focusing on them from here on out until those scenes are all finished and coded into the game.

I've also spent a few days going through the Lyla's Curse project directory organizing the files. Some of the files started getting out of hand and now everything is nice and tidy, it's kind of mind blowing, the Lylas Curse project directory has over ~6,100 files in it @.@ with all of the sprites, the concept art, the illustrations, the planing work, scripts. It's kind of hard to believe.

Pale Horse

Pale Horse has continued focusing on working on the Questing system and hooking up the new modules into the master code files so that the new features are talking to each properly. One of the systems we're going to be putting into place is an Embarrassment Point (EP) costs into the dirty or embarassing things that Lyla will be doing in her adventures. The EP Costs will essentially track how much humiliation Lyla can take in a day before she just won't do anything anymore. This will just be the basic system but we'll continue to improve upon it with future updates.

Yeah, Lyla will also have a slut level that will grow as she progresses the story. The EP costs won't be static either. The EP cost will adjust based on Lylas Slut level. So the more slutty she becomes, then less of an effect doing something humiliating will have on her.

Hey Everyone!

Just wanted to give a state of development update. I want to start doing these regularly, like weekly dev blogs to see how you guys like it. I'll have status updates on what we've worked on throughout the week and any other news that may arise to keep something nice and consistent. Let me know in the comments how any of you would feel about something like this, not all posts may be filled with massive advancements in development and I'll try to sprinkle in extra posts here and there as well with other teasers.

So, what we've been working on currently: (Don't forget to check out the trello as well)

Voodoo Monkey (V0.1.40 Content Overview || Art Assets Tasks)

I've been focused primarily on writing this entire time. I've completed a little over half of the planned scenes that I wanted to add. Total scenes I've finished writing so far is ~20

(I know...I'm incredibly slow at writing, it's just not my strong suit. If any of you are good writers out there that can write the scenes at the level or better then what you're seeing in game and can really get the feel of Lyla and Socks interactions, hit me up. We'll talk about you possibly joining the team. That way I can focus primarily on the art.)

Anyways, back to the topic. Writing. The scenes that I have left to complete are all higher level and I want to move onto the art assets for the finished scenes. So from here on out I'm shifting into the art phase. I want to try and setup streaming while I'm working in case anyone would be interested to just hang out and watch me draw. I'll also record these and post process videos. I've been really itching to get back to drawing as I haven't drawn much since I've been focused on writing these scenes. When I finish all of the required art assets, I'm going insert the finished scenes into the game code and begin programming all of the animations for the scenes. Animations like Facial Expression setup, any movement, etc.

If there's still time and people are dying for the next update, or programming is still being worked on before I finish all of this, I'll begin working on the leftover scenes, if not, I'll have the scenes I just finished at least implemented into the game and release the update with that content. And push the unfinished scenes into the update after V0.1.42?

Pale Horse (Programming Tasks)

Pale Horse has been focused on implemented portions of his refactored code into the master. He's built the beginnings of a "Notification" system which should notify the player of what they should do next or any other information.

A rough quest/task log has been worked in. A debug button has been added into the Pawnshop (for internal testing). Voodoo Monkey created a spreadsheet mapping out all of the quests and triggers to work off of. A new template created setting up the basecode for a Quest Class.

A lot of the refactoring has should also close the existing loop bugs or undefined bugs from the previous update.

New Location Data has been setup for the games screens (locations and screen overlays like buttons). Framework has been created and applied primarily to the Pawnshop and its various rooms as a starting point for testing.

Reworked how the audio was setup so that if a current song playing is called to play on a scene change that it doesn't reset the song. Only resets the song if it's different.

Emmanuel (BRKN HVN)

Has written four new songs. Samples of the WIP files has been posted for Patrons to preview. Currently working on recording the final versions of the songs and mastering.

Hey everyone, development is going good. I've been writing some really juicy scenes, I can't wait to start the art phase for these (I'll be sure to share snippets as I work).

But time for bed now. Can only run on a few hours of sleep for so long before it starts to take a toll but it's easy to keep trucking along when you love what you do :)

Been really focused on writing all of the new scripts. Theres a ton of scenes and this part always takes me awhile. But it's getting there. A lot of what goes into these scenes when writing is I also generate my exact list of needed art assets based on what the characters are doing as well as planning out the variables in code for various trigger points.

When I get through all of the scripts, I get to start the art phase. You'll get to see a ton of wips then, showing writing wips are kind of boring haha.

Got some new songs in the works as well. I'll post those for Patrons, they're turning out great though :)

Anyways, thank you for being patient. This is going to be a great update.

Hey Everyone! I wanted to give you a rundown and status update on what we've been working on since the release of V0.1.38.

I took a small break after releasing V0.1.38 as I slightly burned out during the final crunch trying to push that update out but after I've recovered mentally, we've begun a deep dive into the next content and have been working steadily on it.

So of the biggest feedback I've received on the state of the game is the addition of good H content/scenes. Well, I've decided to devote this update to greatly expanding the H content. This update won't have any story advancement. Just adding in H-Content all over the place, and will finally be able to get the doors to to balcony and bathroom fixed and accessible. As of right now in my list I have around 34 planned scenes. Not all are unique as a lot of them are different levels of the same scene.

As of right now I'm still focused on writing and designing the new scenes and content. I haven't gone to the art phase yet. Once I can start the artwork, I'll be able to post better progress posts. Pale Horse has begun merging some of his new code and systems into the Lylas Curse master build file. Brkn HVN has been busy writing new music for the new scenes and is updating some of the existing audio in the game.

We're also pretty active on the Lyla's Curse Discord Server if you'd like to interact with us directly about the game or anything else. I tend post more updates to the Discord Server.

Again, thank you so much for following and supporting development of Lyla's Curse. It's a passion project and I'm planning on incorporating a lot of new techniques into these scenes. It's going to be wonderful!

Also I'll try to post more regular updates on what we've been accomplishing or any development hurdles. In the past I generally did not like to make status update posts unless I had new artwork ready to post.

Old saves should be backwards save compatible. Let me know if it isn't or if you run into any errors with the new content unlocking using old saves.

To access the new content from the latest save (When Geoff leaves to find Lylas friends and is now not present in "Beggars Alley", talk to Piezo. New dialogue should pop up about Lyla meeting up with her friends."

I've run into story elements out of order and a dialogue loop that soft locks you and you cant escape. if you want specifics let me know.

I've collected a lot of bug and grammar reports from the initial release to the higher tier patrons. Thank you for all of the diligent bug reporting and testing. I'm going to go through all of the bugs and fix them before doing a public release which should be next week.

Played it and I like it, but would like some more knowlage whats in The game, for example, fixing the bruken Doors, Asked him, and he just says Come back with money or The fact that competet quests dont go away again at The orc to turn in The package Still great job, like it alot, looking forward to the next update 👌

Sorry everyone, I still need a little more time and I'm dying here.

I'm right at the end but need to still go over a couple of things with the code.

Thank you for continually being patient. I'll need to work on it again tomorrow night when I get off of work.

I want to give myself maybe until Wednesday night at the latest but going to push for tomorrow night.

I'm just going through all of the dialogue interactions and making sure the characters are properly animated and expressing properly with each of the dialogue lines as you know how I like to animate the dialogue scenes. It's just so time consuming but the end product is so worth it when the characters react in all of the dialogue sequences.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to give a quick update on the release for V0.1.38. I'm still pushing to send it out tonight. Most likely late in the night.

I wasnt able to button up everything last night and still have a little bit left to polish up on the code. I'm in the home stretch right now and am going to try and finish up the last bits tonight when I get home from work.

Also side note just in case anyone is wondering. Pale Horse is still on the team as a programmer. He's working on the next updates content V0.1.40 right now. I didn't want to overwhelm him with the current update V0.1.38 since I was the middle of creating that content.

I hope everyone has been doing great.

I wanted to update everyone on where things are sitting and didn't mean to go so long without posting a status update.

So first things first, where does the game stand. Right now, I hate to say this but the update isn't ready yet to send out. I'm still working on a lot of things for it. I know it's been awhile but I've been working very steadily on it and if you follow the discord, you'll see how active I've been. There was a few set backs that I didn't account for that slowed my progress down. Some personal issues with work caused a lot of stress over the past month and also I spent a lot of time trying to come up with faster methods, or shortcuts or even new processes to produce content faster for Lyla's Curse. I think all in all, it ended up slowing me down and made me realize that you really can't take shortcuts to straight up drawing a full environment or all of the various sprites. It just is what it is, I just need to buckle down and continue to push through the content to the best of my ability.

Did that say Pornhub? Yes it did! With Pornhub, I can post up process videos showing some of the more wholesome content for your viewing pleasure! Youtube doesn't like wholesome content and I couldn't think of a better place to put that content ^_^ (There's already 3 videos on there! and lots of images that you've probably already have seen.)

Also, a couple of days ago we had an incredibly bad thunder storm. Lightning struck right next to our house and wound up causing a huge power surge. Luckily my rig survived but the electronics in my living room all blew up. (Blew through the surge protectors, how crazy is that?) Oh well, I've replaced most of the electronics so far but it is what it is. I have some more behind the scenes content to share which will be posted on separate posts.

I've been throwing around the idea of creating a team to help speed up the development cycle since the scope of this game is larger than what I originally thought it would be. So if anyone sees the potential in my project and would like to be apart of it, I would be willing to talk! For a team, what I would be looking for is the following:

1) Programmer - Understands Renpy and Python and can program the scene animations like shown in the game.

2) Background Artist - Someone who can draw the environments and various UI assets and buttons in my style.

If I can build a team with these individuals, that would allow me to focus primarily on Character and Scene art as well as writing and project planning. This would speed up the process tremendously and allow Lyla's Curse to come to fruition a lot faster!

I created an album cover art for BRKN HVN who's been writing and recording custom music and sound FX for Lyla's Curse. They want to post the music up onto Spotify and I thought that was a great idea. We've been working closely on all of the music over the course of the past like 7 months and have been very happy with the tone for the game. I have a ton of voiced sound effects that I still need to put into the game but they're ready.

Here's some of the steps taken in case you're interested. I forgot to screen cap my process on this. -__-

I used a very different workflow for this image. Here's the initial concept art wip of the idea.

It was a pretty simple idea to work with. I used lot of different techniques to create this, mostly for fun. For the background, I photobashed the sunset into a city and painted a lot of the features in place. Then added noise to the image to help blend and give a foggy look.

This is where the process get's weird. I decided to simulate the curtains in 3D and render them into the scene using Blender. So I setup the cityscape as a backplate. Created a glass plane in front of it using a shader that splits the light passing through it ever so slightly. Then modeled up the curtains and used a cloth simulation to create a natural look to the drape. Created a denim material for it and made it partially translucent. Then placed a sprite of Lyla in front for composition. I'm still new to Blender and doing this kind of 3D work so I'm trying to use it as much as possible to get used to it. Most of my modeling experience is in CAD.

After I rendered the scene out, I got this result. I was pretty happy with how it turned out. It's translucent enough to let some light barely pass through the fabric. Just enough to give a nice hue shift.

After this I put Lyla in front of it and redrew a portion of the sprite cause I didn't realize her legs were super messed up until now haha.

Here's the finished image as you see at the top after 4 more revisions of adjustments to brightness.

Also had to expand her loincloth a bit for modesty since it's going on Spotify ^_^

I'll post the link up to Spotify when it gets uploaded.
