Hello! Thank you for using yiff.party!

We hope you enjoy using it. yiff.party operates on a non-profit basis, and as such, all the server expenses are paid by our users. We don't want to run ads or infect you with crypto miners. We depend on users like you to keep the site running, and to preserve years and terabytes of amazing content—some of which is no longer available from its original creators!

Because of the nature of the site, many users are reluctant to donate. That's OK! yiff.party was created so everyone can enjoy the content we host without any restrictions or paywalls. But if you value the service we provide, and are able to, we—and our users—would be tremendously grateful if you considered making a donation.

Donation progress for October 2020

So far, approximately $400.00 has been raised out of our target of $400.00. We're about 100% of the way there! Please note: this tracker is updated manually—don't worry if your donation doesn't show up immediately!

yiff.party's server costs are due on the last day of each month. So, we need to meet this goal before 31 October!

How to donate?

At this time, yiff.party can only accept donations in numerous cryptocurrencies. Please select a currency below to display the relevant donation address.

Bitcoin (BTC)
Bitcoin Cash (BCH)
Ethereum (ETH)
Ethereum Classic (ETC)
Litecoin (LTC)
Why can't I donate through other means (eg. PayPal)?

Due to the nature of sites like yiff.party, it is very difficult to find payment processors who will accept clients like us. If we were to accept donations via PayPal, it wouldn't take more than a day for someone to submit an abuse report and get our account frozen. Until a viable way of accepting monetary donations becomes available, cryptocurrency will remain the only option.

There are many resources available on how to purchase crypto. For Bitcoin, check out bitcoin.org's page on buying Bitcoin for a list of methods. For beginner Bitcoin users, yiff.party recommends using an escrow service such as LocalBitcoins.

Hi folks! This week we have an old & creepy "Ruined Abbey" (25x38) map for you.

Will the players manage to explore the old ruins and escape with life? The map is ideal for a session where the adventure takes place in the ruins of an old church.

"Ruined Abbey" map has 46 variants and 35 assets (optimized for Roll20, Fantasy Grounds, or VTT of your choice). The files are ready to download at the bottom of the page.

As much as I like this map, its too narrow. The entire right side isn't complete! I would love to see either a ad-on showing the left side battlements and any terrain around it, or a modification of the original battle mat.

Hi folks! This time we made the "Traveling Magic Caravan" (23x18), a simple map for some classic D&D 5e campaing like "Curse of Strahd".

A group of travellers whose magic caravan sometimes appears in surprising places. Strange phenomena accompanying their appearance.
Who travels in these caravans? Why can you see a strange ball of light and hear strange music after dark around the camp?
Maybe you are missing a map for adventures in the land of fogs ruled by a powerful vampire? This map should be perfect!

Ideas For Map-Based Adventure (September) 2020-09-28T12:00:05+00:00close

Hi everyone! As every month, we're giving you some ideas for sessions related to our published maps.

This adventure seed is designed to work with the Spellarena map of a "Viking Longhouse". It is system-agnostic and can be used within different fantasy settings, from heroic adventures such as Forgotten Realms or darker worlds e.g. Hyperborea (Conan 2d20) or Warhammer.

Raiders!

A group of reavers from the north has taken control over a rival’s longhouse. Their raid didn’t go as planned and the raiders were pushed back. Desperate and fighting for their lives, they regrouped in a longhouse, conveniently located on the outskirts of the village.

They also took hostages – the family of five who lives in the longhouse. Now, the raiders threaten to kill the hostages unless they are allowed to return to their ship. To stay safe from the attacks, they want to keep hostages until they are out of the fjord.

The villagers encircled the longhouse and refuse any demands. However, the reason for that runs deeper than worrying about their neighbors’ wellbeing. A 10-year-old girl who lives in the longhouse is a powerful Völva (seeress).

A year ago she battled a powerful evil spirit. Unable to vanquish the monster, she imprisoned it: in both her mind and the house. If she dies in the longhouse, the spirit will be free but it won’t be able to leave the house.

If she goes outside, the spirit will possess her. And if she dies while outside, the evil spirit will be unleashed upon the world! The reavers don’t believe that story.

The reavers

Considered en masse the invading force should be a deadly threat to the party. They are all experienced warriors, but some have been wounded during the raid. Ragni The Bear Killer is their leader.

She is a wiry woman made of iron-hard muscles and unflinching determination. Survivor of countless raids, she can’t comprehend the raid’s failure and wants to bring her people home alive.

The raiders keep all the hostages in the bedroom and check on them regularly. Moreover, four raiders patrol the outer perimeter, always staying close to the house. Sometimes they just stand and watch, other times they walk around, ready to warn their comrades inside.

The hostages

Five people live in the longhouse:

 • Astrid – a 10-year-old seeress. Has runic symbols on her body, which she has to repaint at least twice a day during a complex ritual. Despite having the power over spirits (and one within her) she is a resolute, a bit too direct girl.
 • Bjorn – a 5-year-old boy who wants to be a raider. He actually admires the invaders.
 • Trygve – a venerable man who can’t see but has a head full of legends and stories.
 • Thyra – mother of Astrid and Bjorn. She’s a tough woman, famous in the area for her bone necklaces.
 • Leif – secretly, he is a cultist, seeking to release the trapped spirit. He pretends to be a wandering peddler.

The villagers

Only a few villagers know about the spirit. Most of the villagers lost someone or something in the raid and they want to kill the invaders, whatever the cost. The party is asked to help with the situation.

This adventure seed is designed to work with the Spellarena map of a "Church Catacombs". It can be used with any fantasy setting.

Holy secrets

For centuries the Temple of Zakros, the god of light and healing, was the symbol of hope and renewal. Recently the holy magic began to fail and the priests revealed that Zakros has a dark side of the trickster, hidden and known only to the highest members of the holy order.

The priests also revealed that another temple, one devoted to the dark side of Zakros, lies within the holy hill, the entrance hidden in the deepest part of the catacombs. Normally, a secretive sect conducts all the necessary rituals, but apparently, they have recently failed to do so.

The priests sent a group to investigate, but no-one has returned. Perhaps the heroes visiting the temple could investigate? If they manage to cleanse the sigils, the priests will happily heal them whenever they’re in need. However, a shadowy figure promises riches and power if they destroy the runes…

Failing sigils

The dark side of Zakros corrupted the monks, who poured dark magic into eight protective sigils magically inscribed in different parts of the temple. As a GM, decide if they’re visible or located only via a special ritual, by detecting magic or gazing into the aether. They can be also located in non-obvious places (ceilings, behind a tapestry, etc.)

Each rune has a special effect the PCs have to deal with before cleansing or destroying the sigil. Assign the effects as you wish. Sometimes combining several effects might lead to interesting situations.

1. Anyone interacting with the sigil is transported to the shadowy reflection of the temple. They can interact with the same sigil again, but from now on their shadow attacks anyone (friend or foe) within melee range. Staying in bright light is the only immediate solution to the curse!

2. The functions of all the sigils swap places at random.

3. Anyone interacting with the sigil for the next few hours at random intervals doubles in size or shrinks to the size of a pea.

4. A nearby sarcophagus opens, releasing a moderately powerful undead creature. Alternatively, the PC is teleported to a nearby sarcophagus.

5. All the giant skulls in the dungeon fire a blast of powerful energy.

6. All the doors close and it’s very difficult to get them open again (they’re stuck, protected by magic or elaborate locks).

7. All lights (mundane or magical) go out.

8. Discordant music fills the air, dispelling benevolent spells and making it difficult to concentrate.

When all the sigils have been disabled, the order is restored – but the dark side of Zakros sends its shadowy agents to deal with the heroes.

When all the sigils have been destroyed, the party must battle through the “good Zakros” priests, but once they’re safe, they receive gifts of shadow from their new patron… And those bearing the dark mark must obey their Lord in everything!

This adventure seed is designed to work with the Spellarena map of a "Crashed Airship". Although it is system-agnostic and can be used within different fantasy settings, it works best in the worlds where air travel is possible, such as Numenera, Eberron, or Soulbound. To make the ideas more universal, general terms were used for damage and difficulty.

Gears & Goblins

A tribe of goblins found an old crashed airship. Normally, they would loot or ignore it, but this tribe is special: they have Clank. Clank is a mad genius, a goblin whose mind is all about gears, machines, and explosions.

Upon seeing the wreck, he went mad with glee and immediately set to construct strange devices. He also hopes to eventually salvage enough parts to launch the bow section of the wreck into the air and crash it in the middle of the hated human town below.

The citizens of the town send the party to investigate the strange lights and noises coming from the mountain. By the time the heroes arrive, Clank has built the following devices:

- The sparkler – three metallic rods attached to the ship’s prow, the ruined mast, and a goblin standing guard at the wrecked aft. When foes approach, the goblin points his rod at a target, and lightning courses through all three rods, eventually striking the target but killing the goblin. The lightning deals medium damage and is a medium threat.

- Hotstones – Clank removed strange, glowing stones from the ship’s magical furnace and gave chips of them to some goblins. They carry them, believing them to be precious or even magical. There is 1 in 10 chance that a goblin has a hotstone on them.

When such a goblin is hit with an attack that deals a lot of damage (such a critical hit, more than half hit points etc.), the goblin explodes, dealing little damage to all creatures in the melee range. Warning! May cause a chain reaction!

- Killgear swarms – Clank is a master tinkerer and absentmindedly creates dozens of small spider-like mechanical creatures. They tend to form swarms and bury themselves in the ground, or infest tight spaces. Taking after their “father” they have a single purpose: to disassemble whatever they can – especially living creatures.

- THE BIG PLAN – Clanks has moved the ship’s magical engine to the bow part of the wreck. He is trying to turn the bow into a rocket and launch it into the town. Currently, he’s trying to attach the engine properly but gets constantly distracted by dozens of new ideas that invade his mind in this place of technology.

The encounter

There are a lot of goblins at the crash site, but they are unhappy with Clank’s tinkering – they keep dying in accidents and the ship is still a wreck.

If the party chooses a direct approach and storms the wreck, Clank tries to launch the missile regardless of the project’s stage.

This may lead to a powerful explosion! The party may also try to divide the goblins or pick them off one by one.

This adventure seed is designed to work with the Spellarena map of a "Town Market" (day and night version). It’s suitable for almost any fantasy setting.

A typical day

The following table presents ten events that may occur while the party is visiting the market during day or night. Choose one or roll d10 to determine what happens. The first five are day encounters, while numbers 6-10 are night encounters.

Fiery Fears | New FREE 4th Level Adventure for 5e 2020-09-21T21:08:57+00:00close

Hello patrons! We have a new adventure for you - 29 pages of pure role-playing.

"Fiery Fears" is designed for four 4th level characters. It will be challenging for 3rd level adventurers and too easy, without serious modifications, for a 5th level party. In the adventure, the PCs follow different clues, discovering bugbears hiding within the town and the disturbed phoenix nest in the volcano.

They must save the town by getting rid of the monsters and placating the phoenix or escape Serinok before flames engulf everything. Throughout the adventure, the PCs must also repeatedly deal with fires in the town. The adventure should take your group about 4-8 hours to complete.

To make it easier to adapt to your setting, general terms are used for places or names of deities and such. Just insert the name that is valid in your campaign and continue! This adventure does not follow a rigid sequence of scenes to play through.

Instead, it explains the stakes and the situation, as well as motivations of the villains. It also presents two “Count5 downs”, or event chains that occur at intervals, one for the bugbears, one for the phoenix.

Once you insert the PCs into the mix, the adventure unfolds. In the end, the text discusses several most likely endings, but you will probably need to adapt them to the events in your game. Some of the monsters in the adventure are resistant to normal weapons.

If the party doesn’t have access to magic, the fight might be unnecessarily prolonged and difficult. Remind your players that they can ask the Champion or another ally from Serinok for help: they can loan a magic weapon to the party or procure a scroll of magic weapon for them.

As always when running a premade adventure, be open to your player ideas and use this text and Spellarena’s maps as inspiration!

I rarely run "official" material campaigns for my group and I find that I can take a "generic" map and quickly adapt it for my specific campaign needs. That said, I'd *love* a high quality map of Mezro, both before an after it's destruction. :-)

Some stuff from Eberron like Sharn and the Mournlands would be amazing, I've had trouble finding useful maps for my campaign.

I FEEL SO STRONGLY ABOUT THIS !!!!! Im running the explorers guide to wildmount and if you had some maps for there - good grief that would be nice as hell!

User #14076345 - 9 Sep 20 10:12
Yes! Yartar desperately needs a good map, accurate to the descriptions in SCAG etc. Luskan also lacks a modern map, and I wasn't able to find anything for Mirabar. Strangely enough despite it being a major city, I don't have a good keyed map for Silverymoon, I'd love to see how you render the Moonbridge! Xantharl's Keep is another one.

User #37928409 - 9 Sep 20 12:38
I'd like more maps that are on theme for the current official adventure book. For Rime, I'm looking for maps and assets with winter/snow themes.

I would say that my current campaign is heading to an area much like that of Icewind Dale, so I'd love to see more maps of areas like that

I think maps for specific books would be nice. It'll just be hard to know which books :)

Honestly - there's a lot of free/paid generic maps, so I'd strongly vote for "official" stuff!

I would give you all my money for Wildemount maps.

No, I meant the old official d&d maps are awful. Things from Rise of Tiamat and Hoard of the Dragon Queen and others.

These are absolutely gorgeous. I wonder...is there any way to get the PSD or a version that doesn't have the ship. I have a city that set at the center of cliffs on all sides and the view on this would be perfect for a battle on the edge. Anyway, no big deal just love these either way!

Hi Amber! Unfortunately it took a lot of time to remove the ship from this map :( But maybe other our maps with a view of the cliff will be helpful for you? https://www.patreon.com/posts/29787383 and https://www.patreon.com/posts/28665839

I was very excited to use this map in my session this week. My players were traveling by airship when they were attacked by a Flame Dragon, incinerating the ship. Naturally, the players were the only survivors in the wreckage. One player was like "Dude... Where did you get this map?!? Who just has a map of an airship wreck laying around?!?"

Hello everyone, this week's map is the "Infested Crypt" [38x30] . Today we are presenting you a map ideal for an adventure under the surface, somewhere where the mystery and evil creatures lurk. "Infested Crypt" has 10 variants and 25 assets (ready to use on Roll20, Foundry VTT or other Virtual Tabletop).

Another day, another job. The innkeeper asked you to get rid of the giant rats from the basement - how did they get here in the first place? Does the wine have magical properties to make wild animals grow bigger? But this time when you go down there’s nothing beside broken kegs and spilled alcohol.

Or is it?

Flow of the air has changed and you spot the hole in the wall - did the rats decide to spread underground?

Squeezing through wasn’t that hard, with a sword in one hand and a torch in another you feel ready for an adventure!

The hole is very narrow, but after few steps it gets wider. It doesn’t look like a rodent’s work, these cobwebs hanging from the ceiling..? What is going on?

The floor is cracked and you can barely see next levels of this… cave? How deep is it?! Maybe there’s a safe way to go further?

But instead of a nice staircase you find a slimy, green ooze, spread on the floor as far as the torchlight can reach.

Something… something is moving?

Weird orbs, glowing with a dim, green light are sitting in the nest on the edge of the room, and when you make one more step, something moves under the surface in your direction.

It’s mesmerizing, but after first crack in those eggs you sprint to the basement, nearly falling down.

Familiar smell of the wine is blissful and calms your wildly beating heart. Who should you tell about it? The innkeeper, the mayor? Or maybe the guards?

There’s a possibility to handle it by yourself, but are you brave enough?

The world is in your hand and imagination is your ally. Our description is just a suggestion, our vision of The Infested Crypt, inspiration for a story. We hope our background will help new game masters, and our maps will be a great addon for more advanced players :)

Spring is the time when nature comes back to life and colourful flowers bring joy for the observers. For some people they are just a decoration, sign of the new season, but others are able to use them for better reasons.

People who don't do the gardening just for the optical pleasure are using the plants for various reasons.

Some of them are growing their own spices, when others see the magic in the petals, seeds and roots.

One of them is Agness, the old lady in huge glasses, not very tall, but with a lioness heart!
Listen to her closely, you can learn more about her garden.

“Very common magical plant is a poppy. Their lifespan is about a year, where they bloom, give seeds and die. You have to be patient and careful, the small mistake might cost you all the time spent.

Poppies are connected with the moon and sleep magic, the seeds mixed with hemlock, henbane, mullein, red sandalwood, and sagapenum are helpful when it comes to visiting the spirit realms. Be careful though, it’s very addicting and some day you may not come back!
Basic of the basics - white sage.

It cleanses from every spiritual matter - good, bad, doesn’t matter. After using it your space is like an empty bowl, but nothing can stay empty for too long, am I right? If you don’t fill this space with positive energy even worse spirits might come!

So dance, play music, burn some sandalwood, everything is fine as long as it's done with a positive intention.

Next to it we have roses. What? A love spells? Your intuition is not bad! Yes, we can use them for strengthening the bond between the lovers - for this we use petals, but what do roses also have? Thorns!

So if you take a jar with vinegar or lemon juice, dragon blood and thorns, put someone’s name in it and bury it in the ground, you can harm them very badly! But if you don’t use protective spells it can backfire, so I do not recommend curses for someone like you.

Huh? You are looking for something more… discrete? Follow me, I have something in the glasshouse.”

The world is in your hands and imagination is your ally. Our description is just a suggestion, our vision of The Herbalist Garden, inspiration for a story. We hope our background will help new game masters, and our maps will be a great addon for more advanced players!

Hey folks! Today we have "Giant Bone Graveyard" [38x30]: 12 variants and 30 assets for VTT). This is the second and last free map this month.

***
Only gods are unaffected by the time. Greatest structures are falling apart and mightiest beasts are getting weaker with age, both of them turn to dust, just to be forgotten.
But sometimes the world wants to share their secrets with the people currently living and prolong their history.

Battlegrounds, ruins and like this time - graveyards are found by travelers who create stories and legends about what they’ve seen.

The old bones lost their whiteness, turning to more brownish colours and might be mistaken with the huge boulders scattered around the clearing. But when adventurers come closer it’s clear that they are looking at the enormous skeletons of the fallen creatures.

Historians might have heard about these monstrosities, but being able to see what’s left from them is another level of discovering the past.
Are they dinosaurs? Or dragons? Or some unnamed animals from the ancient times?

Place like this might be a great spot for someone who wants to use their power.
Dangerous cult or powerful lich, trying to resurrect an undead companion, just to spread fear among mortals.

But it is believed that bones can be magical artifacts, so the graveyard of the fallen giants might be full of scavengers, treasure hunters and all kinds of weird individuals - be careful, they won’t be happy to share their spoil!

The world is in your hand and imagination is your ally. Our description is just a suggestion, our vision for Gigant Bone Graveyard, inspiration for a story. We hope our background will help new game masters, and our maps will be a great addon for more advanced players :)

Journey for wisdom might be dangerous and lead through disturbing places. The young monk, he is the reason why we travel in the first place, woke up from his meditation and ran to the map and pointed to the depths of the woods.

We’ve saddled our horses and moved to our destination.

After many days, when we lost sight of the last city on our way we’ve entered the forest. At first everything was fine - we’ve met some wolves, deers, even a pack of goblins, but as we went deeper and deeper the ground was going more into the wet state. Fresh air with the scent of the grass and wood started to change into the sweet scent of mud and rotting plants.

Maybe I was going crazy, but when your only friend is a kid, who is unaware of the surroundings for most of the time it is normal that your mind plays tricks on you. The trees were alive, but… more than usual. They were moving as we moved, I can say they were forming new paths just for me and Altan.

Something was calling him, and he was responding.

The swamp has some grim beauty. Everything in the shades of green and brown is oddly calming, it’s like a glasshouse stretched out for miles. At night I heard weird noises - crying, howling, but when Altan was meditating all these sounds were going silent.

Back then I thought it was because of his magic monk powers, but when I asked others about changing reality and connecting with spirits on a level that high, they were so shocked that a 12 year old boy was able to do things like that.

I wonder what happened to him.

He asked me to leave him under the tree, the only one standing on the huge field in the middle of the swamp. Under my skin I felt this is the right place for him.

When he sat in the roots the whole forest changed.

Like someone tamed all the trees in a single second.

I know at which forest I left him, but I wouldn’t dare to come back. I was just a part of his journey, as well as he was a part of mine. When the right time comes - we will meet again.

Changes and Improvements #2 2020-08-12T15:25:12+00:00

A lot has happened in the last few weeks. Despite the summer time we have worked very hard to improve your use of our maps and content.

1. Master Posts - First of all we added all the maps to the Master Posts. If you're looking for a map from your tier, choose the appropriate tier and there you will find all the maps:

Important! Please remember that the number of maps, their variants differ from tiers. For example, Tier $1 offers maps only in the basic version but Tier $5 lets you enjoy all variants! You want to get a lot of maps and their variants - change your tier to higher by clicking here.

2. Commercial license - You often ask if you can use our maps commercially. Yes! From now on, all you need to do is subscribe to tier $20. If you have a question about the license and legal conditions, please contact us.

3. Files - All maps currently have PNG / PDF / JPG versions (and for tiers $5 upwards also PSD). Why so many versions? PNG and PDF are good quality files - ideal for printing. You can use the JPG in your VTT.

4. Why so many ZIPs? - Why do we have to create so many ZIP files? Unfortunately Patreon doesn't allow you to upload anything over 200 MB. PDF and PNG files are very large and we have to divide them into smaller groups (so sometimes you can see "Map_Name_PNG1.ZIP", "Map_Name_PNG2.ZIP" etc)

5. Printable Maps - Did we mention PDF? Any map we have created (and which is available for your tier) can be printed using PDF files.

Last but not least. We also want to thank you very much - you're great people and Patrons! You support us and thanks to you we can create more maps. It's a huge responsibility but also an amazing joy to be able to do what you love! Thanks! <3

PS If you have any questions, please send them to: artur@spellarena.com or a direct message through Patreon.

Alone.

So alone.

In my head this place is still full of life, sounds and colours.

But it’s all gone.

I remember the sound of seagulls mixing with children's laughs and fishermen’s screams,

living peacefully on this island. What happened to them? It was so long ago, I can not recall.

I guess I was one of them, trying to make ends meet, but what’s my name? Do I even have a

name?

Sometimes I feel like I’m noone, sometimes I feel like I’m all of them.

Countless cycles have passed from the times of our glory, we’ve seen stones turning into the

sand, lives of thousands of creatures pass in front of our eyes, but we are still here.

Faceless, like the tides hitting the shore.

Why do gods don’t let us rest in peace? What’s our purpose in this world?

Is it punishment? Is it reward? What have we done?

I would love to remember.

Love? I felt something called love, but now the water is my only friend, it hugs my celestial

body every time when the cold drops touch the beach.

Can you hear me?

You are the first one who can hear me! From a very long time, nearly forever! If you are

looking for redemption I think that’s the right place and time.

If you help us we will let you go, but if you try to run…

We will rise

We will rise and strip you from your flesh, we will take away your bones and you will join us.

And we will wait again for someone who will hear us.

Maybe we will be louder with your voice.

The world is in your hand and imagination is your ally. Our description is just a suggestion,

our vision and inspiration. We hope our background will help

new game masters, and our maps will be a great addon for more advanced players :)

Burned City Battle Map [FREE] 2020-08-03T11:02:37+00:00close

Hi! We proudly prestent "Burned City" [50x30] (58 map variants and 51 assets), one of the most tedious, difficult, demanding maps we have created. A huge number of details created so that you can fully feel the chaos and destruction of the burning city.

***

The history is written by the winners, but if you are reading these words you can hear the voice of the humble man, who tried to describe these events as they were, in their true form.

We were living in peace - humans, elves, halflings and others, building a community of free thinkers, philosophers doing no harm to our brothers and sister from other cities. We were gladly sharing our crops and thoughts with travelers, some of them were deciding to stay with us, because they finally found a place they could call home.

But peace cannot be everlasting, right?

At first we saw black clouds - they were far, but ashes were flying with the wind towards our city. After few hours soldiers were visible with the naked eye. Dark armors with red robes were marching in our direction. At this moment we knew that peaceful times are over and we have to run.

Elders decided to stay, to protect the retreat as long as they could. Magic was building up in the air as people were grabbing their essential belongings, just enough to survive, but then I saw something I will never forget. A huge, black dragon was hovering in the skies, with bright yellow acid dripping from its jaws. Every single person knew in the spot that we have to run.

We were on the road when they attacked. From the cartloads we saw huge explosions of all the elements - they were creations of our masters, trying to buy us some time. Army of constructs started marching on the streets, waiting for the danger.

The next minutes of the journey felt unreal. Looking at our homes being destroyed by flames and acid breath in addition to inhuman screams of dying monsters was like a bad dream. Years of building the community turned to dust in a matter of minutes.

Right now, after few years I am still on the road. I would love to settle down, but… I’m scared. I’m scared that the unnamed black army continues its destructive march.

I have to tell the tale and warn others before the black dragon consumes them too.

After the Jadestone fell, the continent heaved and shuddered for a time. Eventually, survivors emerged from their shelters, and explorers from distant lands made it to the impact site. A vast greenish swamp stretched as far as the eye could see, bubbling and producing noxious fumes. People and animals exposed to the fluid turned feral and soon mutated and transformed into horrible, bloodthirsty monsters.

Later the famous Seer Ardana discovered that tiny particles of jadestone can be found in the murky waters. With them, wizardsmiths could create miraculous weapons and armors and thus the sifter profession was born. Sifters know how to find jadestone deposits, extract the particles and transport them out of the swamp. All that while battling monstrosities infesting the swamp.

Threedips village

In the north, the swamp encroaches into the Deathwatch Forest, spreading under the giant trees, constantly trying to mutate them. For unknown reasons the plants resist and industrious sifters took advantage of this, building a village over a rich jadestone dust deposit.

Threedips thrived for a time but after a while, the deposit was depleted, which forced sifters to search for jadestone further and further away. However, the village remains a major transfer point for sifters, explorers, merchants – and smugglers.

In the main part of the settlement, you can find a large inn (“Sifter’s Rest”), the headquarters of the Sifter Guild, barracks for the village’s Swampguards (who make sure nothing dangerous climbs up the trees), a well-supplied general store run by a wizardsmith named Voscoe and a shipyard – probably the only such place built up in the trees, with finished boats and rafts lowered dozens of meters down into the swamp.

Things to do

For adventurers, Threedips might be just a stop on their way, a place to replenish supplies and find an odd job or two, or the destination because the party is searching for something lost in the swamp – perhaps even for the legendary Intact Stone, i.e. a large piece of the meteorite which, if it exists, will give its owner unlimited power.

Visitors looking to earn some money but not ready to die for a legend can find bounties on monsters, rescue expeditions, merchants searching for bold explorers to map distant part of the swamp, and of course, departing boats in need of escorting.

There is also a silent war being waged in the shadows of the great trees between smugglers and the king’s secret agents. Officially, with jadedust being so powerful, the King tries to control its presence on the market, but everyone knows it’s all about taxes. That’s why free-minded entrepreneurs need smugglers, who supposedly know other routes into the village than boats.

This adventure seed is designed to work with the Spellarena map of a treetop village. It is system-agnostic and can be used within different fantasy settings, from heroic adventures such as Forgotten Realms or darker worlds e.g. Hyperborea (Conan 2d20) or Warhammer.

Voices in the dark

The Green Hell Jungle is named so for many reasons: plants, animals, and monsters want to eat you alive, the heat and humidity are oppressing, terrible storms can turn parts of the forest into a swamp or create raging rivers that sweep you away in an instant. Intrepid adventurers can brave most of those dangers. But not the Voices.

At night explorers camping in the jungle hear whispers on the wind. The Voices plead and threaten, eroding both will and sanity and eventually people wander off into the forest, never to be seen again. The first explorers, ignoring warnings of the native peoples, dismissed the voices as mere madness.

Later it became obvious that something sinister dwells in the jungle, luring travelers for unknown reasons. But kings and merchants kept sending brave fools into the Green Hell Jungle, because those who returned, did so laden with treasures.

Safe Havens

A grand prize has been offered to anyone who would end this threat. One group came very close, discovering a network of safe havens in the jungle: ancient ruins dotting the Green Hell, places where the Voices couldn’t reach mortal ears.

Now explorers push from one such haven to another, safe from the Voices as long as they spend the night in one of the mysterious ruins. Each group that discovers a new haven is hailed as heroes and it is said that soon the entire jungle will be mapped and the source of the Voices destroyed.

Recently though, the camps are under attack. Monsters emerge from the darkness, some wearing the faces of long-lost explorers…

Optionally, you might also decide that each ruin must be ‘activated’ before they become a haven. This might involve performing a ritual (while being attacked by monsters) or exploring and cleansing a dungeon under the camp.

The nature of the Voices

Your party may be visiting the jungle for a specific reason or just exploring, searching for treasures, or earning money by discovering new safe havens. They might be interested in destroying the sources of the Voices, in which case you need to decide what they are. Below, you can find some ideas, linking the Voices to popular campaigns:

 • If you’re playing the „Tomb of Annihilation”, the Voices are just another Acererak’s curse, affecting a part of the peninsula.
 • In a Warhammer game, the Voices are whispers of a chaos demon imprisoned deep in the Drakwald.
 • They might be twisted dreams of a sleeping, mad dragon or minor deity. They don’t realize their dreams are affecting the mortal world, but also don’t wish to wake up – unless the PCs do something for them!

This adventure seed is designed to work with the Spellarena map of a bandit cave. It is system-agnostic and can be used within different fantasy settings, from heroic adventures such as Forgotten Realms or darker worlds e.g. Hyperborea (Conan 2d20) or Warhammer as well as 7th Sea or other swashbuckling games.

The Whispering Grotto

Caves make great hideouts and a group of bandits called Deadeyes was delighted when they stumbled upon the Whispering Grotto. Located deep in the woods many locals considered cursed, the small cave system seemed ideal for the posse.

Soon, they found out that there are indeed voices in the cave: disembodied whispers occurring at random times. Some don’t make sense or speak exotic languages; others repeat what someone said in another part of the cave system. That feature proved particularly useful, as Savina, the posse’s leader, likes to listen in on her minions’ conversation as well as to prisoners. Naturally, bandits know about this so they are careful what they say while in the cave.

However, the Deadeyes don’t know that the whispers are a lingering effect of Fey magic. Every so often a gate to the Sidhe realm opens and strange creatures emerge, usually killing everyone in the caves, then cleansing the stones and performing a special ritual.

The posse

Savina leads a group of about ten men and women. Ex-soldier, who served in newly discovered lands beyond the ocean, she rarely speaks of her adventures. It is clear though, that she hates the king and everyone who supports his regime.

Other members of the group include all kinds of crooks: conmen and women, horse thieves, ex-gladiator-for-hire, even a priestess. They rob, kill when they have to, are always on guard, and treat the posse as a family – which means they also argue a lot. All of them have somehow wronged the king and lost something precious because of it.

The king dispatched his right hand, Sir Marsk of Tialnoc to deal with the Deadeyes and some people wonder what secrets Savina brought from beyond the ocean. Then there is also a rival gang, Mary’s Mares. After a few joint jobs, Savina and Mary become lovers and then bitter enemies – but no one knows why.

The adventure

The PCs might be yet another group the King (or his officials) hired to deal with the Deadeyes, another gang, or stumble upon the posse while searching for one Theodore Brunswick, a ridiculed expert on the legendary Sidhe creatures. Theodore, currently imprisoned by Savina, is the only person suspecting the purpose of the cave – and the imminent danger.

Recently all the Deadeyes have been complaining about the increasing intensity of whispers. They become paranoid and want to move camp, but Savina isn’t ready to abandon such an excellent hideout. One of the bandits made contact with a Fey being and now acts as its agent.

Soon after the PCs’ arrival to the cave and possibly just before the final confrontation with Savina, the gate to Sidhe realm opens in the waterfall and suddenly the party must cooperate with Savina, if they want to make it out alive. Perhaps they’ll even visit the Fey realm? Afterward, will they apprehend her or let her go?

Do you want cyberpunk battle maps? 2020-07-27T12:53:11+00:00

In November, "Cyberpunk 2077" will be released (fingers crossed), which will create a trend to play different RPG systems based on the vision of the future. So the question is whether you would like us to create fantasy maps for modern and future RPG systems once in a while? If so, which maps would you like to see?

Please describe your ideas in the comments!

An augmented reality bazaar like we saw in Valerian.

A sushi/Ramen place on a rainy street. Maybe even with crowds of ppl that can be used as barriers/difficult terrain.

Blueprint type maps to go along with the detailed maps would be nice, also. I've used them before as planning maps for the adventure, and then the live map is used when they actually move to the adventure.

Malls, Train Carriages, Rooftops, Shipyards, Multi-layered bridges between skyscrapers, cube apartment, wasteland bike shop, nightclub, food processing plants, clone vat factory, augmentation chop-shop, drug lab, stadium arena, cooking show, barge, New york times square-esk street, etc

An art gallery for a heist or to meet an informant or an agent.

I'd love to see a gangster apartment with different rooms. Good to play a hostage mission or a deal gone wrong. Maybe with access points (roof, balcony, front door, air ventilation). Everything with cool cyberpunk stuff to make it distinct from a regular modern gangster hideout

A rave club with a back room for illegal cyber augmentation and drug/weapons deals.

Or a tattoo or biker shop other than that max got em. I like the wasterlander / mad max vibe too for cyberpunk

It's not exactly cyberpunk, but I could use any city maps you want to create. I use them for Absalom Station in my Starfinder game.

We are working on a series of more generic maps, ideal for out-of-town sessions. Below are examples of maps we have already created - do you like them? What would you change or add?

I agree with Stephen, these more generic maps have a much wider use for me in my campaigns

User #13842850 - 24 Jul 20 11:32
These are great and I'll be able to get good use out of them. However, my world is a dark fantasy setting and would benefit hugely from more "Mirkwood-esque" versions of these landscapes that might be populated by creatures such as Relicts from The Witcher (or other equally grim things)

User #33289395 - 24 Jul 20 12:05
I am more interested in these type of maps over the set piece maps as they are easier to fit in to my campaign.

The Last Bridge Battle Map [FREE] 2020-07-20T09:26:03+00:00close

"The Last Bridge" [50x30] is the second free map this month. We got for you 72 map variants (PNG / JPG / PDF) and 42 assets for your favourite Virtual Tabletop (Roll20 / Foundry VTT).

Far, far away, somewhere between two villages, there’s a bridge. Very old, stone bridge. Today it’s falling apart, but dear adventurer, it has a story like any other!

People say that a long time ago one of the rulers was on a mission, hunting a powerful artifact that could give immortality and strength. During this adventure he had to overcome various challenges and obstacles.

Battles, traps, the king and his comrades were able to finish them all, but here, on this bridge, they met a powerful wizard. At first he tried to smite them with fireballs and lightning, but when they finally managed to come close, he gave them the hardest riddle in the world.

Well, there’s no much more to add to this story after, because noone found any trails of this party any further. I want to believe that they were able to finish their quest, maybe the king is still walking on this earth?

But hey! From more recent history, when I was young we had a troll terrorizing us. Huge like a mountain, stinky as a thousand of mules and dumber than a tree stump. We had to pay him in food if we wanted to cross the bridge, but after the war, when the army came to take away our supplies we had to do something.

So we invited the troll to our village and promised him a feast if he could help us. These warriors were running like crazy! Luckily our huge, hungry friend decided to run after them, so we got rid of both problems.

For a coin more I can show you an interesting cave located few minutes away from here, are you interested?

We would like to present this high-quality map of the bridge, suitable for every kind of adventure. Ambush, trade, maybe your players would like to go fishing? Everything is possible and we think this small map will be a great addon for your story.

Jungle Pirate's Hideout Battle Map 2020-07-26T22:00:02+00:00close

Hi everyone! This is the last map this month: "Jungle Pirate's Hideout" [30x38]. 12 map variants + 50 assets for Roll20 or your other VTT (like Foundry VTT).

...We’ve been tracking these filthy bastards for days, but we’re finally on the track to their main hideout. They’ve dared to take prisoners, but in the name of Royal Coast Guard - we are going to save them and burn these outlaws base to the ground.

I’ve heard the rumors that the pirate’s leader has something to do with the ghosts, that’s why he chose the place near the old temple complex in the jungle. Fortunately we have the blessing of Tyr and his paladins in our ranks. Blessed be our blades and souls, sometimes justice needs to spill blood.

***

I can see the shore. A huge ship in the sand is surrounded by the wall made of wooden planks. I ask one of the mages to amplify my voice. We are ordered to give a warning, but instead of response they’ve chosen to shoot a cannonball at us.

They’ve decided about their fate. In a moment our ships land on the beach, some of my men stay on the ship, covering our position with arrows and spells as I lead the charge. A small group of rogues runs outside of the camp in the search of prisoners. We shouldn’t be late. We can’t be late.

The gate is closed, but with the help of half-orcs we were able to destroy it in a second. Noone is here. The sound of the fight was coming from the jungle. I’ve ordered my troops to help the recon, but something caught my attention. The ship in the middle of nowhere, covered in moss and vines. If the pirates were living here before our attack maybe I can find something interesting there?

Inside of the ship pirates created something like a huge house, with walls made of chests and planks, so I started to search for the captain’s room.

It was there, behind smelly curtains - full of maps, papers and jewelry, but before I was able to focus on anything in particular, a knife flew into my direction, missing by less than an inch.

“You came for the treasure? It’s too late, royal boy. My soul is already connected with the spirits of this island. You can fight, royal boy but yer never going to leave this place”

Treetop Village Battle Map 2020-07-23T00:00:00+00:00close

Hey everyone! Welcome to "Treetop Village" [30x38]! This week we have 36 map variants and 49 assets for Roll20 or your other VTT.

You are walking in the woods, there’s no one around, but in the corner of your eye you see movement in the crown of the trees… When you finally stop to examine what caused that movement you feel something stinging your leg as your vision goes blurry.

The hearing comes back first. Muted voices are starting to connect with faces looking straight at you. Elder man holding spear sees you opening your eyes, trying to focus on the surrounding.

“They are awake, take them to the Priestess”

Priestess? Is it possible that you finally found who were you looking for?

When they drag you across the wooden platforms you see packs of supplies, sleeping bags and long tables set with fruits, meat and nuts.

All these wooden platforms are connected with the biggest one in the center. The sight of a tall tent made of white leather brought back a deeply hidden feeling. This tent looks like… home.

When guards cross the bridge and toss you on the ground, part of the tent opens up and the delicate face of a young woman, surrounded by golden locks peaks from the inside. She’s here.

Your sister is here.

Diana speaks to the man in an uncanny language, but they set your hands free, and in a second you wrap them around your sibling.

“Come on, let’s go inside. You have to tell me everything” she tells and drags you inside. The smell of flowers and elixirs is overwhelming - in normal circumstances it could be calming, but in your situation it makes you feel only worse.

“Sister, I would love to tell you my whole story, but I’m running out of time. You are the only person I could think of, who can help me with… this”

After those words, you take off your glove, revealing hand corrupted by magic. Veins glowing with dim blue light looks mesmerizing, but this close gives away its true nature.

“I know it can be hard. I know noone trained you to deal with things like this, but you have a gift like noone else. I beg you, I need your help”

She seemed to not hear your words, hypnotized by flows of magic in your body.

“Oh my dear, you are not the only one who obtained new skills. When I ran away I saw how powerful I am, how much I can grow. I’m no longer this little girl. I’ve seen true darkness and true light and fear not, I am willing to help.”

We present you a map of the hidden village and some story to bring some life to this image. It’s going to be great hideout for outcasts or elven outpost deep in the woods.

We hope that you and your players will enjoy this map as we did during creation!

Bandit Caves Battle Map 2020-07-15T14:29:39+00:00close

Hey everyone! We have new map this week: "Bandit Caves" [30x38]. This map pack contains 32 variants (gridded, gridless, day, night, snow) and 49 assets ready to use on Roll20 session.

Exceptionally mean and insolent bandits inhabit the cave system near the city.No one knows where the entrance to their hideout is, how many guards are guarding and what treasures they are collecting there. Time for an expedition!

The rustling of the water mixes with people’s voices and crackling fire. The cave is a safe place for people hiding from society. Outcasts, bandits, or those who had to run away for various reasons - this is the place they can call home. Living the life on the edge of the law is not easy. Murders, hijacks, robberies, they often are

the matter of life or death. Renegades have to abandon well-known rules and form their own, as they created their own society. Residents have their own structures - leader, workers, guards, someone has to look after kids if they are any here. All those people have their own stories and belongings, so this cavern is full of surprises! Rumors says that water from here has some magical properties...

We encourage you to write your own story for the people living here. Maybe it’s a dangerous cult or refuges from another country destroyed by war or cataclysm? Or they were following their leader, who promised them better lives?

But sometimes players prefer classic dungeon crawler, dropping dead bodies in great numbers! You can add some vicious creatures sharing space with the bandits, living next to each other bounded by some unwritten pact. Trolls, goblins, wolves, anything that comes in handy.

In the top left corner you can spot a table with a map. Give it to your players as a next quest! Our high-res maps are great to use in real life and on platforms like roll20, designed by players for players. We hope you and your party will enjoy our maps as a quality addon to the campaign.

Spellarena + Foundry VTT 2020-07-10T16:49:43+00:00close

A few weeks ago we asked you what VTT systems you use. We saw the results and drew conclusions. From the very beginning we have been creating our maps based on the Roll20 guidelines (grid size, file size, etc.).

But now we can proudly announce that from now on our 54 maps are also available on Foundry VTT (all maps are pre-configured with walls, doors, and light sources)!

All Foundry Virtual Tabletop license owners may install this module (available in the Module browser) which provides these amazing maps. Once installed the content will be immediately available for use in your game sessions through the compendium packs it provides.

You can find this content pack and others on the Foundry VTT website under the "Exclusive Content" section of the Systems and Modules menu: https://foundryvtt.com/packages/exclusive.

PLEASE NOTE this module is relatively large (670MB) - so please be aware that it may take some time to download and will occupy that space on your hard drive

We're cleaning up! 2020-07-09T18:51:17+00:00

To address problems with the use of our maps on VTT platforms like Roll20 we have sorted out the files - now each map is divided into three separate files.

A file with all maps (in PNG format if you want to have our maps in better resolutions), a file with maps to be printed (in PDF format) and a file with map versions for VTT platforms (in JPG format).

Below is an example of all three file formats:

We have also arranged the files in master posts - all maps created by us are now there.

If you still have any wishes or comments, we'd love to hear them!

Magical Portals Battle Map 2020-07-08T19:35:42+00:00close

Hi everyone! This week's map is the Magical Portals [30x36] map pack with 99 map variants (!) and 25 assets (ready for Roll20 or your favourite VTT).

“Portals? I had a friend who really hated portals. Unfortunately his spouse was a witch, so he had to get used to them. Do I know where they are now? Dead. Or lost. Either way, the last time I saw them was when they got into one of those shiny rings.
But everytime I see one I still have hope to see their faces”

~
Bard from Waterkeep

World of D&D is full of different planes, where flows of magic are strong and merely few mortals were able to visit them without losing their lives.

But users of magic were able to find paths between them and with the usage of portals they were able to travel great distances in the matter of seconds.
More powerful wizards, witches or warlocks were able to create forking between the planes, creating illusion of bilocation or living two different lives.

Maybe your party is chasing one of them? Or they got lost in this dimension after blast of wild magic? One thing is for sure - there’re multiple opportunities to get out of this situation! One of these portals is a way back, but where the other leads? Gold, fame, or great danger? Let’s find out!

We want to give you a bit of inspiration - party’s Mage is looking for his master and during this quest all the players are trapped in the portal dimension created by the greater Wizard, because he didn’t wanted to be followed.

But he’s not cruel, so if someone wants a hint about the Wizard’s location, they need to solve six trials hidden behind the portals. It can be a lesson where people have to overcome their weaknesses, illusion of their biggest dream, or place to show their skills.

But portals are unpredictable, so are you! We hope that you will use our map in your own unique way to create unforgettable stories.

We know that sometimes you are afraid that the more maps we create, the more you will pay for them (which is not true - we charge for up to 4 maps per month regardless of how many maps we publish).

If this is already explained, I have one simple question for you - do you want us to create more maps per month for the same price? We know that this may be the strangest survey we will conduct but it is always worth asking :)

I'd rather see the effort maintained in a smaller amount of maps.

User #33774308 - 4 Jul 20 00:26
I agree! There have been a few times already where my players will comment on how cool the maps look. I'm perfectly happy with getting only 4 maps a month if it means maintaining that quality.

Hi Martin! Yeah, I think I know what you mean. We promise not to create more, less quality maps.

Hi Jordan! We understand and will try to reconcile our creative frenzy with the expectations of our patrons :)

Well thats indeed a bit of a weird poll you have there :D I absolutly love your maps, they are beatuiful and i have a use for almost everyone of 'em. Like previous comments said i would of course love more maps but pls dont if it would impact the quality of the maps. Anyways thank you for asking, its apreciated :)
user avatar
spellarena - 5 Jul 20 10:57
Thnaks :) Of course, if we create more maps, there is only one condition - their quality will still be high!

We just want to better understand needs of our patrons. We can create with you and we want to do it even better!

Very much so yes!

The idea of more maps makes me worry about sustainability and burnout on the creators. I trust whatever decision is made, but I think I already get a lot of bang for my buck, so to speak. Thanks for what you do!

That's why why we are group of people and we are able to create more than single artists.

What Virtual Tabletop (VTT) do you use? 2020-06-30T08:12:39+00:00

A lot of you play with VTT so we'd like to know exactly which platforms are the most popular among our patrons - we're thinking about creating maps prepared for the most popular VTTs (adding dynamic lightning for Roll20 maps for example).

Why? Because of pricing or features?
user avatar
User #32404829 - 2 Jul 20 21:28
The features are just so great. Creating characters is a breeze and from a DM perspective, setting up lighting/walls/sound takes me less time than it does in roll 20
user avatar
User #21012257 - 3 Jul 20 19:33
I use a mix of (D&D Beyond + Beyond20 extension) and Discord, and stream onto my Twitch channel. I use OBS Studio basically as a virtual tabletop. I drop maps onto it, tokens for players, even animated snowfall overlays. It's not the best setup, but it makes things pretty fun! The players can watch me move their tokens in real time, and I can build a lot of "scenes" ahead of time to have encounters on hand.
user avatar
User #33289395 - 30 Jun 20 09:03
I am looking at moving to Tableplop from roll20 as roll20 has such an unfriendly UI. I only want a VTT for set piece encounters. We use dndbeyond for everything else.

I think having unique spins on specific regions or areas is always a nice thing to have, D&D specific things aren't too important for my take since I mostly play Pathfinder 2e these days or less high-fantasy based TTRPGs
user avatar
User #32404829 - 2 Jul 20 21:46
I know I'm a week late here but I'd like to emphasize that having unique spins on regions or a generic style map with an interesting feature is great and you should sprinkle in a few special maps with a clear theme. There are some mapmakers that basically draw out all of the encounters, and it's this wondrous beautiful piece of art but they've put so much into it it's hard to run the game beyond what they've already drawn in and you can't tailor it. I think the Dark Castle is a great example of an interesting twist on a generic map. It's got a clear theme and some physical features that stick out as plot devices, but you could put undead, aberrations, fiends, demons, or humanoid cultists/casters in there and the map would work for all of them. Now having said that I absolutely love the special maps like the Vampire Manor and I think having great battle maps for specific types of encounters especially when they're done well like yours are, but a mix of both is good.

User #32404829 - 2 Jul 20 23:21
The new Arcane Maze is another great example. Wonderful twist on a generic map, can be applied to a lot of different stories/encounters. It's lovely

The Undersea Horror Battle Map [FREE CONTENT] 2020-06-25T16:47:12+00:00close

Hey everyone! This is the last (and free of charge) map this month. As we wrote in this post, we will clearly indicate what content is free and you will have to pay for it.

Hello Investigators!

We proudly present you our latest creation: huge "The Undersea Horror" [50x50] battle map. A lot of stories just mention the Old Gods, but with this pack you and your players can experience his presence in full glory.

Cthulhu’s awakening - is it the end of the world, or is it new beginning? Everything is in your hands!

Under the sea

There is a place where dreams come true About the power, money or love

Under the sea

The deeper you go, the more you see But why would go down here?

Under the sea There is an Old God

We need your voice to wake him up

Weird, vivid dreams, we all have them. Wise people were connecting them with subconsciousness and how it tries to connect with our consciousness, making a human center of all these things.

But what if they were wrong? What if that quiet voice in our head doesn’t belong to us?

I’ve read many stories about mythical places, creatures, I’ve studied all the mythologies for years. Years! But When I first met dr Hinock… everything has changed. She introduced me to the whole new world.

I saw books not meant for human eyes, written in languages twisting minds. But I was stronger than others. When people were screaming during readings, I heard beautiful songs from their mouths.

With the help from dr Hinock’s organisation I’ve stop worrying about money or other job than making research for them. I found my family, but I was still looking for my home…

I found myself in the position where I let my intuition do the reading. Sometimes I took my first book at 8 am just to woke up in the middle of the night with tons of handwritten notes, not remembering taking single one of them. I felt like a genius.

My work was comparable to Plato’s, Aristotle's, Cesar’s - but it had to wait, because people were not ready for a this creation.

How can I give them a new bible, if I haven’t met my god?

It was a real submarine! Whole crew was waiting for our orders. Me and dr Hinock, or I should say May - after all those years we’ve got closer than colleagues, but we still like to keep things professional. I went to my cabin and when turbines started spinning I immediately knew where we should go.

We were going deeper and deeper, under the sea… I’ve seen a variety of emotions - some people were scared, some were excited, other were like zombies, mindlessly following what they were told. But it didn’t matter. He was calling me, and I was ready to answer.

Understand my payments to creator 2020-06-24T16:20:09+00:00

Hey everyone!

We want to explain one more time how we charge subscription fees here. As our Patron you can expect 4 newmaps per month(each map comes with several variations - which ones you receive depend on which tier you pick).

Sometimes we create more maps and other content but that doesn't mean we charge for them. For the sake of clarity, such free content will be marked as "free content" in the title.

Here on Patreon youcan pledge to us based on the tiers. We offer tiers of $1, $2, $3, $5, and $10 per creation, each offering escalating benefits. Tiers differ in the number of maps and versions you get depending on the tier you choose.

The pledge cost is per new map release. Such map pack usually contains 1 unique map and many variants that comes with it (again: depend on which tier you pick. Tier $1 have basic map version, tier $10 have 20-60 map versions).

If you pledge for $3 and set your monthly limit to 2 map packs per month, you will be billed 2 x $3 = $6 dollars at the end of the month.

Of course we encourage you to support us with x4 creations per month but this is not a requirement. Once again - this is your choice and we respect it!

In case we churn out more than you expected you can set up a Maximum Monthly Pledge after you select a tier so that you don't end up paying more than you're comfortable with.

You will only be billed when we create new content and you can remove your pledge any time you want without consequences. You only pay what you sign up for here. You won’t be billed when there’s no new content!

This way we can keep things transparent and there’s no surprises at the end of the month. We hope we have clarified your doubts and concerns about this case report.

PS for more about charging, fees and Patreon business model read here.

If you have any more questions please email me: artur@spellarena.com

Could you clarify if there's a rough estimate on how many map packs you wish to release as paid for maps per month? Or would this be announced at the beginning of each month for example?

spellarena - 25 Jun 20 23:02
Hey! For tiers 1$-5$: four paid map packs plus two or three map packs for all patrons or public (free of charge). For tier $10 and $20: three extra animated maps. So four map packs are guaranteed (and we will charge for them).

Sand Monster Battle Map 2020-06-22T21:09:30+00:00close

“The scariest thing here? Some would say tremors, but for us, people of this land, we would say silence. We want to belive this one is the worst, but if he will get silent... It would mean something worse woke up and is ready to hunt.”

~ Baahir, Wondering Nomad

Dear Patrons! We present you this month FREE "Sand Monster" [30x30] map pack (19 variants) of archaeological site among ancient ruins in day&night version. Many secrets are buried under the sand - from innocent scrolls to powerful artifacts and shady caves. Surrounded by huge boulders, protected from the wind and sandstorms preserved forgotten evil buried underground.

The most interesting point of this map is a deep cavern in the center, hiding the root of all the rumors and legends surrounding this place.

Scientists working here were saying that during night, right after last light is turned off they hear something more than moving ground. Some people were describing this sounds as wispers, another were saying that they heard something wet and slimy, like a tentacle wrapping around their spine. They don’t even know how close to the truth they are...

Our second map shows desert monster in its full glory - Angry, hungry and ready to rumble! With an extra asset where Sand Monster is down you can show your players progression of the fight. One tentacle down, a lot more to go!

This map pack is suitable for various RPGs - D&D, World of Darkness or Call of Cthulhu, so it is up to you how the fight will end. For group of D&D adventurers it might be heroic fight, where barbarian jumps straight into the monster’s jaws, but for CoC investigators it can be manifestation of The Old One.

We hope to have the same joy of playing with it as we did during its creation!

Ideas For Map-Based Adventures (June) 2020-06-22T20:15:12+00:00close

Hey everyone! Like every month we want to help you use our maps. We have prepared some mini adventures that you can play with their use of maps: "Vampire Manor", "Underdark Temple" and "Sand Monster"

The Hatchery ("Underdark Temple")

This adventure seed is designed as a short side trek story and it works best with the Spellarena map of a spider-shaped dungeon. It is system-agnostic and can be used within different fantasy settings, from heroic adventures such as Forgotten Realms, 7th Sea (it’s a great duel location!) or darker worlds e.g. Hyperborea (Conan 2d20) or Warhammer.

Background Information

Dark elf Clan Zaesz has been recently rapidly expanding, mostly due to the young and charismatic new leader, Matron Morennel Yril'Lysaen. Not only her Goddess's chosen, but Morennel is also an engineering genius, who combined magic and architecture to create special hatcheries for spiders.

The buildings act as super-incubators, so giant and other spiders hatch faster, grow stronger and more vicious. Recently the matron started to experiment with her drow soldiers, ordering them to spend some time in the hatcheries. The results seem promising because the subjects develop stronger muscles and special abilities, such as wall-climbing.

With such mighty troops, the clan conquered one underground holding after another, but then Morennel encountered a problem. For her dark magic to work, she needed a special ingredient, found only on the surface: holy symbols of human deities.

She established a small outpost near an entrance to the surface world and sent her agents to recover relics. But there are only so many of them and to keep her empire growing, the matron needs to keep targeting human temples and priests. Meanwhile, her hatcheries seem to be losing potency.

Strange disappearances

Below is a simple Countdown: this is how events most likely unfold if the PCs don’t interfere. They may choose to do so at any point, but remember to adapt the narrative accordingly — the PCs discover different clues, depending on what has already transpired. The PCs might be asked for help by the local authorities, a secret council made of representatives of different churches, or they might want to look into the matter because for example, their mentor — a priest — has been killed.

1. It all starts with the disappearance of a priest stationed in a backwater temple of a minor deity. No-one cares and the delegation from the village, sent to the local power center, is sent away. The PCs might hear about this and choose to intervene, or they may go about their other tasks.

2. More clergy keep vanishing, all around the region. Different churches and their followers clash with each other, looking for the guilty party among their god’s rivals.

3. There are riots in the streets.

4. People talk about forests growing dark with webs and strange shadows move at night.

5. The drow grow so powerful that they attack the largest temple in the region — the relics from such a holy place will fuel Matron’s plans for years.

Intervention

Once the PCs realize what’s going on, they find the drow and descent underground to the hatchery that serves as the drow HQ. Once it is destroyed, the drow withdraws — but the PCs might choose to follow them into the depths, searching for the Matron and lost holy symbols.

Deadly discovery (" Sand Monster")

This adventure seed is designed as a short side trek story and it works best with the Spellarena map of a desert camp at a mysterious pit. It is system-agnostic and can be used within different settings, but the story below has been designed to work with Mythos horrors or sci-fi/science-fantasy themes in mind. With some work, it can be also used with fantasy games, especially darker ones, such as Conan.

Background information

Under the most remote reaches of the Great Desert sleeps a creature from before time. Ancient texts call it the Devourer, God-eater, or simple the End. Once it thrived, but then the desert was the bottom of a vast ocean and the creature grew for eons, spreading its feeding tentacles further and further across the entire seabed.

When the sea disappeared, some of those died but others retreated in time deep into the ground, and the creature as a whole entered hibernation.

Throughout history, various peoples discovered God-eater’s existence. Some venerated it, others tried to destroy it, but invariably all who interacted with the creature died horrible deaths.

The Allfather theory

Recently a powerful organization, bent on world domination, came across ancient tablets that speak about the Devourer. The author believed that the creature was the “first being”, constantly evolving since the dawn of time.

The organization decided such a thing if it existed, would greatly boost their research and help them conquer the world. They turned to different experts around the world and mounted a grand expedition to the Desert, sparing no expenses and manpower.

The PCs might be a part of that effort perhaps — hired by proxies — unknowingly working for the evil group. Alternatively, they might have been hired by another organization, or they’re free agents, by sheer coincidence conducting the same research and following the same clues.

Countdown

Below you’ll find a countdown, which shows the order in which events transpire if the PCs choose not to intervene. The Spellarena’s map can come in handy at any point, when the PCs camp next to a mysterious pit or discover a research camp — still intact, abandoned, or wiped out by something huge. Possibly a sandstorm.

1. The organization comes across information about the Devourer and mounts an expedition.

2. The expedition finds a dead feeding tentacle and brings it home for research. They all go insane.

3. Out of experts, the organization reaches out to experts around the world and mounts another expedition.

4. Spread across the vast Desert, most of the groups find nothing but heat, sun, and strange mirages.

5. One group discovers an underground temple guarded by strange and feral humans. In the temple, there is information about the way of finding and awakening — or destroying — tentacles.

6. Hidden knowledge: some clues seem to point out that should enough feeding tentacles become active, the huge creature sleeping deep underground would awaken.

7. The evil organization mobilizes all its strength, scours the desert for the sites, and keeps awakening tentacles.

8. The Devourer awakes.

Mists and Blood ("Vampire Manor")

This adventure seed is designed as a short side trek story and it works best with the Spellarena map of a vampire mansion. It is system-agnostic and can be used within different fantasy settings, from heroic adventures such as Forgotten Realms, 7th Sea (it’s a great villain lair!) or darker worlds e.g. Hyperborea (Conan 2d20) or Warhammer, or even with games set in more modern eras, such as Call of Cthulhu.

Background Information

The vampire family Sartoz travels across space and time in their mansion, always seeking new feeding grounds to exploit. The building, powered by mysterious mists and the blood of vampires’ victims, appears at night somewhere close to a “cattle” settlement. Then, the first vampires awake and scout the area.

If they deem it safe and good for harvest, they wake up the rest of the clan, which descends on the town. Usually, some people survive, which leads to local legends about haunted mansions.

On its eternal journey, the house sometimes returns to the places it has visited and the cycle continues with oddly dressed, rich visitors appearing in a town that has forgotten a tragedy from centuries before.

The heart

In the deepest part of the mansion lies the heart. Even the current clan’s prince doesn’t fully understand the artifact, though some vampires believe it belonged to the First Vampire, or that such a being sleeps inside the artifact.

The heart requires a steady supply of blood to keep the vampires alive when they hibernate and allow them to travel through dimensions. Destroying it would reduce the clan to ordinary vampires – still powerful, but cornered and unable to escape.

Scouts

The vampiric infestation usually begins with the house arriving somewhere near a large town, typically superimposing itself onto ruins of an old building. Then scouts awake and carefully scout the settlement, learning its customs, fashion, as well as creating the first spawn that would serve the clan.

A sample group of scouts may look like this:

Renetoir Basauville – a charming and a bit boyish slender man with long hair and a mysterious smile that promises… things. He usually infiltrates the artistic circles of the town, where his outlandish clothes don’t draw too much attention. Renetoir is a talented poet, painter, and actor so usually, it doesn’t take him long to become a sensation, which leads to contacts with local aristocracy.

Jodie McCullen — a burly woman who relishes her physical strength, Jodie usually takes over a local gang and then builds a criminal empire, striking deals with human bosses and removing those who don’t want to cooperate.

Wang Shu — this androgenic vampire is a talented orator and has studied a multitude of religions from different times and places. Wang Shu tries to exploit local faithful, their beliefs, and attitude towards local clergy.

Sometimes the vampire is a prophet, sometimes a lowly priest preaching the “true” words of a god. Going against priests is very dangerous, but more than once Want Shu has managed to take control over a major temple.
