I already know ahead of time that 90% of this will be covered up by clothing/armor, but I am nothing if not the sort of masochist who will devote hours upon hours to something that won't make it to the final cut.

Figured I'd dump a few hours into doing some soft shading for Liora, since I did it for Anastasia. Once again, really enjoying the clothes, but still struggling with skin an unbearable amount.
"You could be more than this, some run of the mill Enchanter, if only you applied yourself. You could make a name for yourself, one that spread beyond these walls."
"No matter how many tricks you do, they will never see you as a person. Why waste what precious time they allow you, on earning empty praise?"
Senior Enchanter, the second youngest of beloved noble, Revka Amell, and one of the Circle's run of the mill mages.
I've never tried anything with snow before, but for Cole, I will try.
I hadn't been in the snow for at least a decade, until three weeks ago. I hope it snows again, the sort of snow that stays for at least a little while and lets you make snowballs. I'm sure it'll lose it's novelty eventually, but for now it's amazing to see again.
It's been mentioned in canon that objects can give off memories or emotions in the Fade around them, which means Cole basically has a radar for random junk. I always imagined Cole would collect trinkets/mementos, things that once meant enough to someone that their memories and emotions are still imprinted on them. How better to keep a memory, than to keep something that carries it forever? He's got his own memories now to preserve too. Boy's gonna need more pockets.
I do enjoy some of the circle mage robe designs from Inquisition, but the general look from da2 suited her better for this period of Liora's life. Specifically, being a First Enchanter even though she's incredibly depressed and is hanging on to the memories of her family for dear life.
My hobby is planning to revamp characters' outfits, but only ending up editing them a bit. I've been messing around with incorporating the avvar armor design, but it's been rough and I'm pretty sure it won't be making it to the final cut.
Gotta love the fuckin look. I don't know why I enjoy lining the woven/crossed parts of clothing, but I really do.
Every six months or so, I'll get a foolish urge to try my hand at soft shading. I remember how deep the suffering runs through me within seconds. Gotta admit, I do enjoy how the red/gold piece of her clothing turned out a lot.
"Were you in danger of becoming possessed?"
"No, but it is done... I do not remember why I felt so afraid of the brand, before."
You've heard of writing terrible things happening to your protagonists, now get ready for; writing terrible things happening to your protagonist's family, completely separate of the main story! Anastasia was made Tranquil five years before the Blight, but it's okay, she's better now!
The Chantry robes from DA2 are one of my favorite clothing designs in the game. Damn shame the only people who wear them are Chantry members, or Tranquil.
Google's finest quality picture for me ended up being a mod that gives Sebastian Chantry robes. I've just been staring at this dude's chest on and off, so I can definitively say, seeing Sebastian out of his normal armor is fuckin weird!
I've been working on the next Amell portraits, in between the files I'm primarily focusing on. I still haven't decided what I'll do in terms of the Before portrait. Anastasia, and her twin, Liora, were only eleven when they were captured by the Templars. On the one hand, their true Before would be at that point in their lives. On the other hand, having the Before portraits be at the same point in time across all the Hawke and Amell families would be most ideal. I'll decide eventually!
✧ Happy New Year ✧
It's been an eventful year and I'm grateful to be here. Despite the major life changes, I've still managed to build on my goals for the art I create. I certainly haven't been able to produce as much as I hoped, but this year should provide many more opportunities!
As far as the second half of 2019 went, moving and participating in NaNoWriMo stole up a lot of time. I've been drawing for most of December, but unfortunately it went into something for the holidays which couldn't be completed by Christmas. I'll likely be reworking it to suit a normal illustration instead, but it'll be a while before I finish something as involved. In the meantime, I've got plenty of ideas to bombard you all with even more Dragon Age and DnD, regardless of whether there's any demand or not.
May all of you begin down brighter paths this year, and if there's moments from the past decade that you regret, ways you wish you'd changed. Remember, there's still time enough to grow, and hindsight is 20/20.
There's something really satisfying about putting highlights on darker shades of red? Not sure why, but it's been pleasant to look at whenever I've done it in the past.
He's here, he's queer, he's covered in blood oh sweet fucking lord.
Take me away, sail us into the sunset!
After ten thousand years, I bring you lineart!
True to this year's existing theme of complicated stress and good progress; I'll be starting to work full time again, right as we approach the holiday season! I hope to continue with my 'every other day' posting schedule, and so far have no tangible reason to believe it won't be possible.
Unsurprisingly, it's been a lot of dragon age related content lately. I've started working on a few things, so I can say for certain there's DnD and Dragon Age on the horizon! Namely characters I'll be drawing for the first time, on both fronts.
Short and sweet, much like October felt
♥ Thank you for your support ♥
Figured I'd upload the images separately, no reason not to after all! I ended up splitting the image into three different files, and combined them for a finished project in a new fourth. Which is why I won't be uploading a PSD for this one.
"The only unfortunate thing about my blood, is how much of it we share."
I'm hoping to one day complete the set with all Faustine's siblings, but that'll likely be a future endeavor. Eight portraits is a lot to do, especially since I'll probably want to redo Faustine's by the time I finish her siblings'.
"Imagine how high we might have climbed, if not for your blood."
Faustine would've become an entirely different person, if she and her siblings weren't mages. At the very least, she would've spent those lost years much happier. Not that she ever wondered about it, definitely not, only a few times maybe.
I'd never looked at the Playboy Bunny outfit's ears closely enough to realize how funky their shape really is. Y'all ever wonder why the Playboy Bunny image has straight ears but the Bunnies have a slightly flopped ear? I do now!
✦ Happy Halloween ✦
He's here, he's queer, he's probably gonna spend half the night getting everyone to sing with him. If you don't want someone to get on the tables and start hyping up the crowd, don't invite the bard.
I didn't anticipate struggling quite this much with the Grey Warden armor studs, I definitely didn't last time around, but I might go back and attempt to redo specific sections again. In a stunning turn of events, the less complicated outfit ends up being more of a burden than the other!
At long last, the portrait of nobility is complete! I'm sure choosing colors for this will be hell, but it's Future Max's problem.
One very good excellent friend! She's beautiful and I would get my ass absolutely obliterated for her.
Done and done! Most of her vallaslin got covered up, but I'm glad some of it's still visible enough to show they're there.
Now this is a boy I can get behind!
He's armored up and all ready to go!
One of the ways Hawke and Bethany kept themselves occupied on their time between jobs, or after nightfall, was sewing little designs onto their clothes. Hawke stole most of the thread, until Varric came around and started "finding" some every so often for them.
I'll be posting the individual images throughout the month, beginning tomorrow. They'll be a little more spaced out than normal, every two days rather than every other. I'm still in the process of moving so the opportunity and energy to draw comes sporadically, but I look forward to when the time comes where I can upload regularly again!
Until then, here's some pictures of my beautiful boy.
Stage Six - Inquisition
Midway through shading his skin I realized, wait, this son of a bitch is pale as fuck. He'd be sunburned nine ways to Sunday. There's probably spells developed by past mages for the express purpose of preventing sunburn, but let's be honest, two years is a long time to be casting the same spell at least once a day.
NOTE: Unfortunately there was a mix up with the PSD file for this one so it's unavailable for upload.
Stage Five - Awakening
I'll never get over how much I love the Grey Warden armor from DA2, there's something very aesthetically pleasing about the mage designs in particular. However, I do demand more actual armor pieces. Mages don't have to be weak little nerds! Cowards, the lot of you!
Stage Four - Landsmeet
Designing fancy outfits? Fun. Shading and adding texture to fancy outfits with many pieces? Incredibly time consuming and the ultimate punishment for any hubris left in my soul.
Stage Three - Blight
Hey y'all, trying to shade fur in any way shape or form is a nightmare and I'm glad to be free from it's infernal clutches once more. All praise, the day hath come!
Stage Two - Origin
I keep telling myself I'm glad to be done looking at my boy being sad, but deep down I know the only thing between me and drawing him absolutely wrecked during certain moments in game is the unfinished WIPs already in my folder. One day.
Stage One - Natural
Here he is! My boy in his ungroomed state, absolutely beautiful he is. So young, so not tainted by cursed blood that will one day kill him. Fantastic.
It's already begun, but as a heads up, I'll be unable to post anything for at least another month. I'm preparing to move and haven't been able to draw for any substantial amount of time. Once I'm settled I'll get back to working on my current WIPs, but until then thank you for supporting my work and I hope to return soon!
Stage Six - Inquisition
Ended up with two versions after struggling to decide what I wanted for his vest piece but in the end simplicity won out. Feyrian has a good amount of scars but unfortunately most of them are on his back or lower arms. Damn shame, I like showing his battle scars.
Stage Five - Awakening
The canon Warden symbols are very good, but I couldn't find anything that fit with what I'd originally imagined. Ended up taking a feature from one of the Dalish heraldry images to make the lower half of his griffon.
Stage Four - Landsmeet
Somehow it's always the pieces that I don't expect to give me trouble that end up being a pain. Flowers? Fine, good in fact. Vest design? Royal pain.
Stage Three - Blight
Most of the difference in Feyrian's outfits before and during the Blight aren't visible from the bust view that prompts like this one use so there's a lot of overlap between the images.
Stage Two - Origin
I made an absolute mess of the layers for this file but it turned out alright. Thankfully I copy pretty much any layer that wasn't super simple, just in case I erase something on accident or that sort of deal.
Stage One - Natural
If there's one thing that my art teachers gifted to me, it's the knowledge that I love making patterns and do a damn good job of it. Every single one of Feyrian's outfits has some sort of pattern/embroidery on it and I regret none of it.
Turned out a bit different than I'd originally imagined it but overall pleased. I've only drawn Sera once, a year ago, which is a damn shame on my part. She's fantastic, a joy to be around, 10/10, great companion. Anyone who's strategies involve throwing bee grenades is a good one in my book.
Changed a few things from the figure lineart that I'd put aside for later. I can't tell if I'm getting more accustomed to drawing clothing, but the lines certainly took little time in comparison to past images.
All done! Her shoulder piece took the longest but thankfully the rest wasn't difficult. There's nothing more satisfying than taking a step back and looking at a good bunch of agonizingly clean lines.
After an unbearably long time, it hath been done! This was kinda a goof but as always I turned it into a weeks long ordeal. The Sacred Flame took three days of frustrated groaning but it's over. At Long Last.
After twelve years suffering over the figure lineart it took wildly less to finish lining everything else. It felt bizarre not adding Fortune's normal clothing and jewelry but I had to stick with Howl's original outfit.
White and black are frustrating to shade, at least with how I go about it, which was a fun new way to do myself dirty! But, she looks how I imagined and that's what matters.
