Hello! Thank you for using yiff.party!

We hope you enjoy using it. yiff.party operates on a non-profit basis, and as such, all the server expenses are paid by our users. We don't want to run ads or infect you with crypto miners. We depend on users like you to keep the site running, and to preserve years and terabytes of amazing content—some of which is no longer available from its original creators!

Because of the nature of the site, many users are reluctant to donate. That's OK! yiff.party was created so everyone can enjoy the content we host without any restrictions or paywalls. But if you value the service we provide, and are able to, we—and our users—would be tremendously grateful if you considered making a donation.

Donation progress for January 2020

So far, approximately $182.48 has been raised out of our target of $280.00. We're about 65% of the way there! Please note: this tracker is updated manually—don't worry if your donation doesn't show up immediately!

yiff.party's server costs are due on the last day of each month. So, we need to meet this goal before 31 January!

How to donate?

At this time, yiff.party can only accept donations in numerous cryptocurrencies. Please select a currency below to display the relevant donation address.

Bitcoin (BTC)
Bitcoin Cash (BCH)
Ethereum (ETH)
Ethereum Classic (ETC)
Litecoin (LTC)
Why can't I donate through other means (eg. PayPal)?

Due to the nature of sites like yiff.party, it is very difficult to find payment processors who will accept clients like us. If we were to accept donations via PayPal, it wouldn't take more than a day for someone to submit an abuse report and get our account frozen. Until a viable way of accepting monetary donations becomes available, cryptocurrency will remain the only option.

There are many resources available on how to purchase crypto. For Bitcoin, check out bitcoin.org's page on buying Bitcoin for a list of methods. For beginner Bitcoin users, yiff.party recommends using an escrow service such as LocalBitcoins.

If you haven't connect your Patreon account with the Discord server, please follow the simple instructions on this page: http://enjoyingart.com/discord/ Using shapes is an effective way to represent the forms on the face by analyzing the light and shadows. In this painting I used the Premium Watercolor Paper. To see all quality watercolor supplies that Arteza offers, use this link and receive discount: http://enjoyingart.com/arteza We are going to start our art product giveaways soon. The rules are: 1) I will announce the Giveaway in a random video. 2) The first 20 people who leave feedback comments (except spam messages) under that video will be included in the selection for two winners. 3) Selection process and winners announcement will be included in a video in the following week. Kelly, thanks for your support, and, yes, you should have the member benefit, I just need to figure it out how to do it.

Kelly, I just looked in YouTube, it doesn't have any integration with Discord like what Patreon does. If you want the benefits you see here, my best suggestion for you would be to stop your YouTube membership and become a patron on Patreon. When we have members on YouTube, I will also have some similar video conferences there, too. Please contact me if you have questions.

How to Improve Focal Point in a Painting [member critique] 2019-06-30T16:00:52+00:00close

How to make certain areas in a painting to be more visible than the rest? Each painting needs a focal point. Most time we spend so much time on thinking about the small areas, we call them local areas, but we forget the relationships among the big masses, we can call these relationships global relationship. This critique video may answer many of our members' current struggles.

In the process of creating a good and meaningful painting, line is important visual element, but when come to compose relationships, we also need to use use shape, value, contrast and edges. We you have a few images to combine into a portrait project, what are you going to do, how to use the references? This video will provide you one of the many ways to work through the process. In this lesson, I used digital tool (iPad) for easy workflow, but you can print the references to do it in a traditional way.

For portrait drawing beginners, under the basic shape and anatomy of face is important. In this charcoal lesson, I focused on how to understand the shape, light and shadow of an eye, then translated the knowledge into visual language, so the drawing will communicate the illusion of the form.

Did I understand you when you said you preferred to use an oil based pencil when sketching? If use use oil based pencil for drawing but a water color paint...does it bead up?
user avatar
yongchen - 19 Apr 19 16:24
Oil-based colored pencil and wax-based can be the same. Anywhere that the colored pencil mark covered area, the paint may not get into, but everywhere are fine to accept water and paint. In this aspect, oil-base and wax-based are the same. Oil-base doesn't mean that the oil will spill on the paper. The glue and harden agent in the colored pencils is oil-base. Comparing the oil-based and wax-based, it's harder and stronger than wax-based.

Some members like to draw using black and white charcoals on toned paper. Is white charcoal the replacement of the eraser? Meaning instead of lift up the black charcoal on the toned paper to make it lighter, you may use the white charcoal to light up the area which is already has black charcoal. In my process, I do it differently. In my mind, the toned paper is the middle value of the drawing, I would only apply black charcoal for the area that is darker than the middle tone (the paper color). If you already put the black charcoal to the area that should be lighter than the middle tone, then you should remove the black charcoal mark first before thinking about whether you should make it even lighter (with white charcoal).

NWS 2019 Member's Exhibition April 4 - June 23, 2019. The opening reception is scheduled Saturday, April 6, 2019 from 2:00-6:00pm. ADDRESS: 915 South Pacific Ave., San Pedro CA 90731

Improvement with slowing down the eye-movement 2019-03-26T15:49:56+00:00close

The original painting looks great, good painting techniques. I have one suggestion here: the audience's eye can move following the edge of the rocks and quickly travel from the left and exit to the right. It is too quick. You need to slow it down. How to do it? We need to somehow break the smooth-connected LINE. Here is my suggesting solution: bring the wave-splash bigger to cover it, at the same time, bring a stronger impact to the painting. Now, do you feel that your eyes travel-movement slowing down? And probably stay on the painting longer?

When we paint, we want to find a strong impression, and amplify it. Keep up the good work!

Yong

This is a painting I painted before 2012 for my exhibition at the Bannister Gallery, RI. Learn more on this page: http://yongchen.com/press/mystory_with_paintings.php

Before I brought it to the gallery along with other oil paintings, I already applied a layer of permanent varnish. Now I want to continue spending more time on it. In this video I show you my process of removing the varnish from this painting using varnish remover from Winsor & Newton.

I just started the Drawing Lessons and finished watching the 12th video today. They are great and I can draw in my sketchpad and take notes along the way. I like the focus on the basics. Consistency on basics is where I think I've had problems, but practicing with these videos and repeating the steps is going to really help me. Thanks & I look forward to moving forward on these lessons.

yongchen - 26 Mar 19 16:04
That is great! Take it slower, after each lesson, do some own drawing from observation to see if you have taken in all the steps. Keep up the hard work.

Painting Acrylic as Shapes in Few Simple Steps

Description
https://www.patreon.com/yongchen http://enjoyingart.com This still-life acrylic painting, I demonstrate a direct painting process. The steps in the acrylic painting process, though the tools and techniques are different, but the way I divide the process into stages are the same as how I do watercolor, gouache or charcoal: composition / blocking in large shapes / adjusting the color and value balance / working into small shapes/details / final touch. Please come to join us as a member, and let me know how I may help you to make the art learning experience more fun, relaxing, and enjoyable. ================================= SOCIALS: 哔哩哔哩: https://space.bilibili.com/383722495/#/ Gumroad - https://gumroad.com/yongchen Instagram - yongchen8 Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/yongchen8 Twitter - https://twitter.com/yongchen1 http://yongchen.com http://enjoyingart.com ================================= MUSIC: Music in this video by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1200096 Artist: http://incompetech.com/ =================================

Critiques for February Landscape Challenge 2019-03-11T03:06:44+00:00

Hi members,

This month I tried to do each individual review, so it has been taking much long time. But the good news is they are almost done. This couple of days I will have all videos add to the EnjoyingArt Learning Center under a new library. And I will also email you the links to the videos in case you have trouble access to the website.

Thank you for your patience.

Giveaway Winner and Member Challenge Review #29 2019-03-10T23:08:44+00:00close

Scale comparison is one aspect of the consideration in painting composition. In this beautiful watercolor landscape painting, my suggestions are paying some more attention to the shape variation to create more contrast and more.

Reviews have been almost completed. I will create a new library in the EnjoyingArt Learning Center to list all the review lessons for our February Challenge. I will put together some details for this month (March) challenge.

I’ve watched this critique several times and each time I enjoy it more. I used to own a Queen Ann Victorian house... so gorgeous... with a white picket fence. I can imagine and remember the bright light hitting the fence and I can see how the blue cast shadow would help break up the shape of the white fence in foreground. Once dry, I’d love to see it again. This painting makes me feel nostalgic! Very lovely.

How to draw on your sketchbook with charcoals? It can be very dirty when you draw using vine charcoal and compressed charcoals. In this class demonstration of drawing a student from life, I shared with you my process of using these tools: vine charcoal, charcoal pencils, blending stump and kneaded eraser.

How You can Learn Painting and Drawing Faster 2019-02-22T19:41:23+00:00close

Often I was asked this question “To draw like you, how long will take me?”. It is easier to answer to my college students because they have predictable learning environments, for the ones learning from the Internet, like on YouTube, then the answers will not be easy. But here I can tell you what are the four key factors contributing to the effective learning result. They are: A consistent learning system; you need feedback and inspiration; monthly focus and encouragement; reward and critique. And in EnjoyingArt Artist Community, we have these benefits and elements. There’s only one more thing, is that, will you want to? Let’s start learning today.

Landscape Challenge Suggestion 2019-02-12T16:06:34+00:00

Some of you may be working on your ideas for your landscape challenge painting(s). While landscape is an interesting and very open subject matter, it will also very easy to loss focus and painting without purpose.

Here is my suggestion (in case you haven't settled your ideas yet): Paint a house as a portrait.

  • Take good photo references of a house that you have lived in, or a house of someone that you care about, like your brother and sister... A House that You have personal Emotional Connection.
  • Include the feathers and things that connect the meaningful stories and events.
  • Make sure that the house in the lighting with carry the proper moods that connect to the story of the house and family. Sometimes I will take photos in the early morning as well in the evening to compare which lighting is better for your feeling.

You can see some of my portrait painting of houses here:
http://yongchen.com/housepaintings/

I have created a new YouTube playlist include the recent paintings of houses/homes:

Let me know if you have questions or suggestions.

Have fun!
Yong

This lesson is focused on the contrast between the background and the main object in the painting. The light background compared to the dark sailboat completed a strong contrast.

Beautiful! I would love to paint like that! What exactly is it that makes the painting glow? I've tried to do this before and not been able. I watched you painting and not able to pin point the moment exactly when it happens. I'm thinking it is the difference between the warm building and the cooler sky, but there must be more to it.

When I listen to each critique, the image is small and the writing still shows on the page. Sometimes if I tap on it it will take me out of your website to YouTube and the ability to turn my cell sideways and watch larger. I wonder if I can watch larger, turn my cell sideways and see the whole image/video without leaving your website?

Measurements and Envelop 2019-01-30T14:25:41+00:00close

In this image critique, you will see the importance of using angular and comparative measurement. At the top, the RED line show you the angle of how the face tilted; the second the blue lines show how the head's size relates to the arm. Envelop is how we see the biggest shape of the object - simplify the object and see globally how different parts relate to each other. Paying attention to the overall shape is very important, and these are not hard, we just need to put these on our check list, and part of our drawing process. More important, do a few exercises following the steps, and you will make these techniques to be your second nature.

Very interesting! I see that you switch between using rule of thumbs like dividing the face in 4 and then other times making sure to measure. Are there certain proportions that are specific per person and should be measured out? And are there some measurements that one can with confidence rely on the standards?
