October 2020's donation goal has been met. Thank you for your support!

Hello! Thank you for using yiff.party!

We hope you enjoy using it. yiff.party operates on a non-profit basis, and as such, all the server expenses are paid by our users. We don't want to run ads or infect you with crypto miners. We depend on users like you to keep the site running, and to preserve years and terabytes of amazing content—some of which is no longer available from its original creators!

Because of the nature of the site, many users are reluctant to donate. That's OK! yiff.party was created so everyone can enjoy the content we host without any restrictions or paywalls. But if you value the service we provide, and are able to, we—and our users—would be tremendously grateful if you considered making a donation.

Donation progress for October 2020

So far, approximately $400.00 has been raised out of our target of $400.00. We're about 100% of the way there! Please note: this tracker is updated manually—don't worry if your donation doesn't show up immediately!

yiff.party's server costs are due on the last day of each month. So, we need to meet this goal before 31 October!

How to donate?

At this time, yiff.party can only accept donations in numerous cryptocurrencies. Please select a currency below to display the relevant donation address.

Bitcoin (BTC)
Bitcoin Cash (BCH)
Ethereum (ETH)
Ethereum Classic (ETC)
Litecoin (LTC)
Why can't I donate through other means (eg. PayPal)?

Due to the nature of sites like yiff.party, it is very difficult to find payment processors who will accept clients like us. If we were to accept donations via PayPal, it wouldn't take more than a day for someone to submit an abuse report and get our account frozen. Until a viable way of accepting monetary donations becomes available, cryptocurrency will remain the only option.

There are many resources available on how to purchase crypto. For Bitcoin, check out bitcoin.org's page on buying Bitcoin for a list of methods. For beginner Bitcoin users, yiff.party recommends using an escrow service such as LocalBitcoins.

I havent watched it yet but from what I gather, the Pacific is about what the army did after this (as they mentioned here) however instead of just focusing on Easy company, they focus on three particular soldiers from three different companies to get varying angles.
user avatar
User #36864069 - 18 Oct 20 05:33
They do focus on what comes after, but there's a lot of Navy stuff as well and it starts with Pearl Harbor I believe. So it technically starts earlier in the timeline and ends later in the timeline. And it's primarily the 1st and 7th Marines.
user avatar
User #6625608 - 18 Oct 20 05:35
Please tell me they tell it better than that f*ck Pearl Harbor film.
user avatar
User #36864069 - 18 Oct 20 05:37
oh, yes. The Pacific treats all the portrayed events with respect as well as Band of Brothers does. I also forgot to point out, but there are just as many celebrity cameos in the pacific as well.

User #10150616 - 18 Oct 20 05:42
@Henry, that last episode focused on Sledge had me crying my eyes out. God, I felt so much for that character.

One last weird fact about Band of Brothers to leave with. I remember being 10 when I saw this premiere as a kid on a Sunday night. 2 days after the first two episodes premiered (they played 1 & 2 back to back) was the September 11th attacks on that Tuesday. The show had started strong and I remember it was swelling the country's patriotism and nostalgia for the romance of war. And when the towers came down American patriotism and pride exploded as we once again prepped for war with another country to attack us on U.S. soil. I feel like, looking back, this show acted as the tipping point and propaganda to those who joined the military to go to Afghanistan.

Band of Brothers is probably the best TV mini-series ever produced. I've only ever watched The Pacific twice, once when it first came out and then again this year during lockdown, but Band of Brothers is something I can rewatch again and again.
user avatar
User #41030858 - 18 Oct 20 05:26
Band of brothers improves with every watch, as you start to recognize and understand every character. The true scope of the narrative comes into picture after seeing it a few times.

User #10150616 - 18 Oct 20 05:40
They produced a documentary - *We Stand Alone, Together* - specifically for this series. It has more interviews with as many as the men they could get on camera. Talking about their experiences, the show, etc. It's about an hour and a half. I remember it aired on HBO right after the series ended and it's included on the DVD And Blu-ray sets as one of the extras. If you want more from the real men, it's a must watch. I recommended it before on another episode post. This is the last big thing I shared with my dad before he died suddenly in June of 2002. We watched the series together, we even read the book and discussed it. He served in the regular Army from '58 to'63 then was in the Coast Guard a while then retired via the National Guard. It was a fun thing to share with him. Whenever I rewatch the series or reread the book it's based on, I get kind of emotional. So it was a whirlwind of emotions rewatching this time around with someone who'd never seen it. Looking forward to when you eventually do The Pacific. As I mentioned elsewhere, that one was so dire, I haven't seen it since it originally aired in 2010.

User #3741917 - 18 Oct 20 04:49
Please watch the Pacific next. Such an important note to what I consider to be HBO's two best series if not the best war stories told about WW2, at least from an American perspective

The "sequel" to Band of Brothers you were probably reading about is "Masters of the Air" which is supposed to come out on Apple TV soon. It's a new World War 2 mini-series produced by Hanks and Spielberg about Airforce bombers. Hanks and Spielberg also produced another mini-series called "The Pacific," which focuses on World War 2 in Japan.

That is indeed Hardy! His first ever role.. I believe he did two random short films before this, but this is definitely the start of Tom Hardy's career 👍

In regards to so many names to keep up with. I do personally wonder if shows that came after, especially the likes of Game of Thrones, pointed to this show as a test case to prove that audiences were fine having a LOT of named characters we keep up with as a series. I personally like that kind of scale in a series because we spend so much more time with everyone, but also it's a means to respect the audiences' intelligence in some ways. Anyway, This has been a great ride with you Brandon. I'm glad you watched my favorite series of all time during a rough patch of the year. You got me through some tough days this 2020. I hope you dive into The Pacific sooner than later to see the dynamic duo of Tom Hanks and Spielberg at it once again.
user avatar
User #10150616 - 18 Oct 20 04:04
Best to make sure Brandon knows The Pacific is super bleak compared to this particular series. I actually haven't rewatched it since it originally aired because it was so depressing. The one character I truly took an interest in was Sledge. Not to say the actors for every one else were bad, no, top notch. It's just the Sledge character was the one I found the most personable.

User #23116054 - 18 Oct 20 05:34
You definitely should watch it again. James Badge Dales' portrayal of Leckie is grade A stuff.

Correction for show vs real life: Liebgott wasn't actually Jewish, he was Roman Catholic. Most of the men in Easy just assumed he was Jewish based on his name. I imagine they went with the Jewish aspect in this series to give that viewpoint of the war, as they did with Mellish in Saving Private Ryan. Yeah, this is one of the roughest episodes of the series emotionally. The first time I saw this, and they stopped dead in the woods like they did, I was like, "Oh God, they found a concentration camp." I'd imagine the reality of that situation was 100 times worse but you can only convey so much on a TV series. Even Schindler's List, Spielberg admitted he pulled back in some places, it was just so awful. Kind of an interesting point about the camps in general and why people who lived near them - or were sent to them - may not have suspected anything was amiss, is the Germans set up work camps everywhere during World War I. No one thought they were being shipped off to death camps because German work camps had been common practice in the last war. Plus, the Germans DID run non-concentration camps in WWII as well. The townspeople could've possibly thought this was the same situation - just a work camp. I can't imagine they would've been allowed anywhere near to see just exactly what was going on. Ultimately, the knowledge of the people in these towns in various countries had or didn't have will never 100% be known. Only they truly knew and if they were honest or not, well, that's why it's still debated. I can easily understand why they wouldn't have or never thought they were death camps, for the reasons I stated earlier. However, I can easily understand why if someone DID know the truth, they'd lie when questioned. Then again, what could they have done if they had known? Possibly risk the lives of their families as well as their own by speaking out? People signed those loyalty oaths out of fear a lot of the time, not out of actual belief. It's a tricky situation, hard to point a solid finger at people one way or the other. In the end, we can only hope the Universe balances the books when it comes to the truth.

This one is the most shocking and emotional. I remember crying for easy company when they found what they found. It still shocks me what humans are capable of during war.

Looking forward, it's been great reliving the series. Hope you continue with The Pacific. Also, if you haven't heard, Stephen Spielberg and Tom hanks are returning to create a 3rd miniseries based in WWII called Masters of Air. So exited!

That's awesome news!! I mention that I'd seen an article about a 'sequel' to BoB but hadn't read it, so that must've been what it's about! I'll definitely be watching that one for the channel when it's released!

Season 4 is what you were waiting for. Season 4 is when it hits it's 100% potential. IMO nearly all of the show's very greatest episodes are yet to come for you. Several of them are in S4.

so one thing that I love about rewatching my favorite series through reaction videos is the things I notice the second time around. for example, I didn't notice until this time that the reason Dani still has Edmund's glasses is that she literally received them right before she was about to go to the airport so she likely didn't have time to just throw them away. it's little details like that I often miss because I binge-watch haha. also, I noticed the spark between Jamie and Dani almost immediately, but that could be because I'm queer myself lol. did you also miss out on the scene when Dani was getting fitted for the wedding dress from Edmund's mom? the way the woman fitting her for the dress was complimenting her and the knowing glances? I'm pretty sure the reason Dani broke off the wedding was because she finally realized that she didn't love him the way she was "supposed to" and although she had been trying for all those years, she couldn't keep lying to herself or to him.

Ah that's a great point about the dress fitting scene, I didn't notice that!

It's been great seeing our boy Rahul show off his acting chops. I hope we get to see him more in tv shows and films in the future.

Agreed! I think his monologue this episode is perfect acting reel material and should hopefully get him a lot of roles
SPOOKY TIME V (THE FINAL SPOOK) 2020-10-17T08:17:52+00:00

Only the top 1 will be watched.

These are the ones out of previous polls (some new) that I personally really want to see, not based off of previous votes received. Vote for as many as you'd like.

How good is VHS?? Not a great rating on IMDB or RT. Interested to hear a quick criticism from someone
user avatar
User #11632599 - 18 Oct 20 01:08
I don’t think it’s very good but is entertaining enough to see once. Would not make the best reaction video either because it’s essentially a bunch of short stories that aren’t tied together.
user avatar
User #3511936 - 17 Oct 20 10:27
Yea, I'm on board with Primer. Definitely one you have to pay attention to and think about!
user avatar
User #188085 - 17 Oct 20 10:45
Which might make it a bad choice for a reaction (even though I voted for it). You talk over 2 or 3 lines of dialogue and you'll never catch back up again (not that I ever knew what the Hell was going on the couple of times I watched it, and I wasn't doing a commentary!).
user avatar
User #5556302 - 17 Oct 20 09:33
Doesn't look like they'll win, but I tossed a vote to both Primer and The Guest in hopes that they'll make it to a future poll.

User #188085 - 17 Oct 20 10:46
I'd also like to see Triangle and Session 9 get reactions sometime in the future, even though they clearly won't win here.

Omg i really hope primer wins!

Jacob's Ladder is still one of the scariest films of all time, imo. So good.

In the UK (and other countries), a barrister is the lawyer who appears in court, and a solicitor is the lawyer who negotiates contracts (for example) and deals with the clients directly. Many countries have merged the roles of barristers and solicitors but in the UK the roles are still largely separate. Also, when Peter said Henry "blessed" it, he wasn't saying that Henry blessed the wine cellar. Peter was saying that Henry gave his permission for Peter to take a very expensive bottle of wine (which Hannah doubted).
user avatar
brandonlikesmovies - 18 Oct 20 01:01
Oh thank you for this!! That barrister explanation helps clear things up. And now I feel silly for thinking something so significant about the 'blessed it' line haha

I've been waiting for this one all month. Great film, one of my favourites, and a great reaction to match it. There is a sick joy in watching reactions to things you've already seen, knowing the terrible things to come while the first-time viewer is unaware of everything. "This is one lucky guy to be picked up by her," said about Annie Wilkes at the start of Misery, is wonderful :)
user avatar
User #89188 - 17 Oct 20 01:29
Man keep up the quality content! U rock!
user avatar
User #10150616 - 17 Oct 20 03:19
When Annie was ranting about the opening scene of the conclusion of the Rocket Man serial being different than the ending of the week before, she was criticizing the way Paul wrote Misery's being alive. In the first book he started writing for her, he just had her not die and saved by some experimental blood transfusion (for the time in which the Misery books take place, anyway). Annie told him he was cheating like the Rocket Man serial cheated. He had to work with the ending that was in the original book where Misery died - she was dead and buried. So that's why she told him he had to throw it out and start all over without cheating.
user avatar
User #36169364 - 17 Oct 20 02:03
Everyone of your patrons who already watched Misery, we were all waiting... for your reaction... to one.... specific, scene ;)
user avatar
User #448661 - 16 Oct 20 13:56
I have been excited about this one since it won the polls. Misery is my favorite thriller of all time. I'm happy Kathy Bates won the Oscar for this. It was a hell of a performance. It's even more impressive when you see how kind and sweet she is in interviews/ real life. If you are interested in more Kathy Bates movies, you should check out Dolores Claiborne and Fried Green tomatoes. I don't know if they are a fit for the channel but I'd def recommend you watch them in your own time.
user avatar
User #19825141 - 16 Oct 20 21:56
Incredible Dolores Claiborne ! Also a masterpiece of Stephen King !
user avatar
User #10150616 - 17 Oct 20 03:22
IMHO, Jennifer Jason Leigh drags down Delores Claiborne. She always been a crap action - IMHO - and her performance is just awful. If they'd had someone else in that role, DC would've been perfect.
user avatar
User #42644293 - 17 Oct 20 01:51
Kathy Bates had many small roles before this, but this is the film that made her famous. She won an Oscar for this role and deservedly so. Definitely check out some of her other work (Dolores Claiborne is another good Stephen King adaption with Kathy Bates). James Caan (sounds like con, not can) and Richard Farnsworth are legends as well.
user avatar
User #30785920 - 17 Oct 20 06:14
One of my favorite adaptations for the screen from a King book. Jimmy Caan was an excellent actor. Really great in the Godfather, Thief, and this. One of the really funny movies that he ended up playing was in Elf. He's just a solid actor.

Does this mean you are gonna start the show? Season 3 is on its way.

The TV series is about new characters but it's in the same vein (pun intended) as the movie, and it's done by Taika Waititi (Viago) and Jermaine Clement (Vladislav). Definitely worth watching.

I loved getting some more Gus backstory. It seems like the killing of max is what molded Gus into the person we see today. There was a lot of speculation about who Max was to Gus. Quite a few people (including myself) think max was Gus's lover. When Hector is peeing in the pool he says that Gus and max don't mind because they "like what they see". It could just be Hector making fun of two close buissness partners/friends. But I always saw it as Hector being homophobic because he knew more about their relationship. obviously it doesn't matter if he's gay or not. At the end of the day, Hector still killed someone Gus cared deeply about.
user avatar
User #4877020 - 13 Oct 20 18:58
I felt similarly about their relationship when I watched this episode. Was suspicious of them being romantically involved, but if not - just as close as brothers. I even said to my own younger brother that if I’d been forced to look at his face after someone put a bullet through his head, like Gus was, I’d have lost my mind too. At this point - who knows what Gus was before then. But this trauma clearly played a huge role in his persona going forward in life. Great points.
user avatar
User #38045932 - 14 Oct 20 09:14
The cartel clearly was afraid of killing him there because of his connections in Chile. There's a scene in season 3 when Hector refers to him as "Big Generalissimo" which suggests he may have been part of the infamous death squads the government used to kill their opponents, or even a member of the "army" attempting to violently overthrow it.
user avatar
User #41352262 - 16 Oct 20 03:31
The cartel big boss was a big deal because the actor was Al Pacino's Scarface sidekick, Manolo.

I like how this show *can* (I say can because not everyone likes all of these characters, some people even despise some of them) make you have an element of liking or rooting for, or flat out liking multiple characters who are at odds with each other (rooting for both Walt and Hank is polar opposites in a way, but they are presented so humanly) or not having to over-virtue embed a character for us to like them or root for them. What I mean by that is, some people truly are just incredibly virtuous and amazing, but more often people that you could or would encounter and like have many flaws and bad moments, intentional or not. This show has Skyler, Walt, Hank, Marie, all of the core characters outside of Walt Jr. who is just a kid, they all have bad moments in tough situations and personal demons. But one can simultaneously like each of them in their own ways.

User #38536676 - 13 Oct 20 13:17
love you're reactions man, cant get enough <3
user avatar
User #4977610 - 13 Oct 20 20:29
Agreed about the realistic part with the tv or movie tropes. Also I think that scene says a lot about where Walt stands. His claimed ambition is everything he does is for his family. That's why he is doing all of these potentially detrimental or deleterious things, so that he can make enough money to provide for his family when he is gone. But then for personal satisfaction, he has made enough money to blow an expensive car up, and not have to worry about the money. And continues to cook, to make more money. It's a jumbled situation of grey area motives for sure at this point. In his defence, too, we know he does genuinely care and love on a level, so the stress and coping defensive walls put up to do what he is doing, he probably needs a bit of fun release and spending of some of that money.

User #24324044 - 13 Oct 20 12:58
Killer rehab scene, such great subtext with Jesse confessing his "crime" with the "problem dog". Aaron's ability to channel so much emotion and cry on command is just amazing, hits me every time.
user avatar
User #4977610 - 13 Oct 20 20:49
Walt definitely doesn't appreciate it. It's crazy how he says that - this is your problem, figure it out, I won't try to make it easier for you. It was your idea to launder my money, you deal with it. Your responsibility, your plan. ...Yeah, because the alternative of Walt's money isn't laundered and none of it can ever go to himself or his family ever is Walt's plan? Pretty sure laundering it is what is making everything he is doing not absolutely for *nothing* at all. For such a supposedly smart guy, he's quite thick-headed sometimes. Oh yeah, your fun little side project you wanna do and take care of where you make it so that the money I am making for you and our kids allegedly can actually be spent someday.

Jesse's scenes, like at narcotics anonymous this episode, make me so happy that they essentially rewrote the entire show to keep Jesse as a character after season 1. Breaking Bad wouldn't be Breaking Bad without Jesse.
user avatar
User #448661 - 13 Oct 20 16:00
There's a great video on how Breaking Bad uses colors to tell a story. After you finish the show I'll send you a link to the video. It's pretty interesting.
user avatar
User #42038486 - 13 Oct 20 12:25
Really hoping that you'll start Better Call Saul after you are finished with BB.
user avatar
User #4977610 - 13 Oct 20 20:22
I think this is the step of Jesse's coping where he isn't trying to drown it out of his head with constant stimulation and distraction. He is indirectly confronting his feelings and thoughts about what happened, with a proxy that bears some similarities, and struggling while doing so. Great intro.

Yes, one of my favourite parts of the week! Thanks Brandon. You are in for a freaking TREAAAAAT with Season 4, trust me. It's all subjective, but maaaan Season 4 is GOOD. I tried taking on the task of narrowing down a list of my VERY favourite episodes, and it just says how good the show is. I left off so many that were so close, and the list was still too long to be worth calling a best of the best list and posting it. Hint: the next few seasons had the highest number of appearances. I basically had half of season 4 and almost half of season 5 on it lol. There was a drop off towards the latest seasons, with a couple not having any, but absolutely there are a lot of fantastic episodes in late seasons. Season 9 & 11 are super good. But yeah... you have many of the best episodes in store very soon!
user avatar
User #4977610 - 13 Oct 20 10:35
If I really had to narrow down to a very #1 episode, I would probably pick 4x02... Can't wait for next week.

The best thing I think with episode's of this series that heavily reference is that they do it such that you don't need to get the references or have seen the referenced movie or tv show at all. It is awesome when you do, but if you don't know any better, it's just as good I find. I am sure some of my fave episodes probably referenced stuff I never saw and didn't even realize. And some stuff is a bit more obscure. Like there is a later season episode that is an incredible spoof of a true crime mini-series, but I imagine without getting the references it would still be absolute gold.

Lipton isnt being sent home at the end of this episode. He is receiving his battlefield commission to 2nd Lieutenant which requires an honourable discharge from the normal army ranks. Thats all the scene was about.
user avatar
brandonlikesmovies - 10 Oct 20 22:57
Ah gotcha that makes sense. Sometimes it's difficult to understand everything because it's filmed/written in a way that benefits people already knowledgeable with some military stuff in my opinion
user avatar
User #42146572 - 11 Oct 20 02:30
Brandon, No we’ve just seen it all at least ten times, so we do manage to pick up these things. It’s hard for us to remember how much we missed the first time around.
user avatar
User #29262732 - 10 Oct 20 21:39
Lipton isn’t new. He’s a Toccoa man. He’s been there from the beginning.
user avatar
brandonlikesmovies - 10 Oct 20 22:55
Wait when did I say Lipton was new?
user avatar
User #10150616 - 11 Oct 20 04:49
I think you thought Brandon was saying Webster was a new guy at the beginning. No, he knew who Webster was, just remarked that the way they were treating him, it was like he was a new guy.
user avatar
User #10150616 - 11 Oct 20 04:56
The guy who Winters approved to be on the patrol was a rear echelon guy who just been helping staff until that point. Those guys were begging to be on patrols and stuff as they hadn’t seen any combat action. They wanted to be able to tell people they did SOMETHING while overseas, not just chauffeur people around and deliver mail and whatnot. Winters okay’d it for someone who’d been with them forever to have that experience, knowing how important it was for many men. He knew Jones just wanted on the patrol because he needed combat experience in order to move up in the ranks. I was kind of surprised you didn’t comment on Jones being completely okay with Winters telling them to lie about the second patrol. Just goes to show some of these West Pointers got the hype drained out of battle for them real fast and realized being alive was better than medals or stories. Brace yourself for next episode, “Why We Fight”. It’s another heavy one with a focus on a character you’ve definitely liked since the start of the show. It’s a great episode, but definitely emotionally draining.
user avatar
User #10664484 - 11 Oct 20 00:11
It’s not exactly that everyone was begging to be on the patrol. But more that people were trying to keep their heads down as by 1945, the war was mostly over. Or rather, the Axis powers were doing their last stand even though they had mostly lost. So like the guys said in the beginning, they had the feeling they might just make it through. And Lt Jones I think was well depicted. Something you don’t think of. Someone who went to a college specifically for military officers, then go into combat to command soldiers who had been through it all, while you outrank them because you went to college. I love every episode for the different parts of war that you just don’t think about.

User #8119176 - 11 Oct 20 12:25
After BAND OF BROTHERS, I'm begging you to watch Hbo's "JOHN ADAMS" and "GENERATION KILL" , You gotta watch John Adams before the election because it's easily the best historical show of all time, Paul Giamatii kills it. And GENERATION KILL is the same thing as Band of Brothers just set in the 2002 Invasion of Iraq after 9-11

I second John Adams.

It's the hidden GEM of Hbo! Easily one of my top 5 shows. How they capture the living conditions. What these guys did for us, INSANE and so previlant for today's audience. I think if 50% of the population watched that show we'd have A LOT LESS CHAOS
user avatar
User #39189929 - 12 Oct 20 17:25
Richard Winters passed in 2011. There are very few Easy Company left alive at this point. I think Edward Shams (the Lieutenant that likes yelling at everyone last episode) is the only one named in the show still alive. Very soon... there will be no more living WW2 vets at all.
user avatar
User #23116054 - 10 Oct 20 18:19
Sgt. Martin led the prisoner mission across the river. Julian was the guy who was shot in the throat in Bastogne that Babe was so torn up about having to leave out there alone when they retreated.
user avatar
User #4840739 - 11 Oct 20 21:25
There's one other great HBO limited series that serves as something of a companion piece to a critically acclaimed Tom Hanks movie based on a historical event: From the Earth to the Moon. It's a 1998 miniseries that Tom Hanks produced with his Apollo 13 director, Ron Howard, about the NASA space program. Tom Hanks developed quite the niche in producing series that explored the subject matter of his films in greater detail.
user avatar
User #10150616 - 12 Oct 20 01:53
Yeah I love that one. I'm huge into the space program, so I was excited when I found out they were giving it a Blu-ray release. One of the few times my DVDs are the better media. I know they had to update some of the visual effects for Blu-ray, but they're actually not as good as the original effects. They are definitely out of place. But then I've seen the series so many times, even the most minute changes stick out like a sore thumb to me.
user avatar
User #3741917 - 11 Oct 20 21:56
Please do the Pacific after BoB, a great partner to the story of WW2 from the American perspective.
user avatar
User #36864069 - 14 Oct 20 08:03
I do look forward to The Pacific after BoB. It's such a sharp contrast with this series because Bob is depicting what's thought of as the last romantic war. While The Pacific focuses on the metaphorical death of the romantic depiction by going face to face with another country who's men want to win by any means, even if that means a suicide attack. Things on the western front suddenly reflect as more civil in how the fighting is done by comparison.
user avatar
User #10150616 - 12 Oct 20 02:01
Also, if you have access to it, definitely watch the hour and a half long documentary on the real men of Easy, *We Stand Alone, Together*. It was produced specifically for the BOB miniseries. They interview a lot of the men who were still alive at the time. You probably would want to watch that on your own, since you've said you want to respect the real men by not talking during their interview segments in BoB. Be cool if you could give us a quick vid or post of your thoughts on it. It's a fantastic documentary.
user avatar
User #20969291 - 13 Oct 20 23:17

I guess you don’t live in an area that gets much snow. But when there is snow on the ground during a clear full moon, it is super bright out. I have done walks at night in the middle of no where with out any flash lights or street lights.
user avatar
User #40406120 - 10 Oct 20 19:15
LT Jones is played by Colin Hanks who is Tom hanks son. Also the 3rd prisoner they left behind who was shouting was Tom hanks himself
user avatar
User #9476897 - 10 Oct 20 20:59
I don't think that's right about the 3rd prisoner. There's a meme on the internet in which someone added Tom Hanks' voice from Castaway to that scene but that's just a joke. He does however have a cameo as one of the British Red Devils in episode 5.
user avatar
User #18593479 - 10 Oct 20 20:35
It's 1945 during this episode, by this time the allies definitely knew the Germans were done for. And it could be argued the war was pretty much decided by the end of 1943.
user avatar
User #26625867 - 11 Oct 20 19:05
That smile when Winters tells them to fake their second patrol report and get some sleep instead, a genuine and wonderful reaction. I have the same one even after all these years and watching the series multiple times.

Johnny Martin is his full name. He was the guy whos coat Guarnier had accidently taken in episode 1 and found the letter that talked about his brother dying.

After Breaking Point, I could barely watch Hagenau. It was so dreadful seeing our men killed so quickly. I couldn’t watch another episode like that.

Extremely tragic!

Hope you can see why this is my favorite episode of the series! The stuff that wasn’t the attack on Foy was all shot on a special soundstage they created. That’s why the explosions were so impressive. They had complete control over the environment. To Lt. Dike - they took some liberty with him in this episode as opposed to the real life man. Dike was not an incompetent coward, he was a pretty heroic man during his service in WW2. He earned Bronze Stars for his actions in Holland and Bastogne. Dike was actually wounded in the assault on Foy, which caused him to stop, not that he had no idea what he was doing. He transferred out of the 506th after that and moved to a different position as well as being promoted. He also served honorably in the Korean War. So I hope that helps you just dislike the show version of Dike and not transfer it to the actual real life person.

User #35395422 - 11 Oct 20 15:51
Awesome, I glad you mentioned Dike's heroism and his two Bronze Stars. I only just learned that a short time ago having seen BoB many times.

There are so many characters in this series it's impossible to keep them all straight in one viewing. I highly recommend watching again some time. I used to make it a tradition to watch it around Memorial Day. As much as you're enjoying it now, I think you'll appreciate it even more the second time around because you'll have a better idea of who everyone is right from the start.
user avatar
User #39189929 - 12 Oct 20 15:21
Memorial Day rewatch is my tradition as well. I also like to watch the John Adams series over the 4th of July.

Some cool info.. The forest set, recreating the Bois Jacques in Bastogne, was built in an airplane hangar using real trees, as well as two hundred fifty trees created by the special effects department. And regarding the snow.. Over 330,000 pounds of recycled paper were used to create the snow for the forest set, the largest ever used in a production, and it took four weeks to dress the entire set. The total budget for the miniseries was $120 million. Of that, construction costs were $17 million. 😬

Amazing to think Donnie Wahlberg was just a few years out of his boy band days when they filmed this.

perfect timing Brandon! :D

The actor who plays Carwood Lipton is Donnie Wahlberg, Marks older brother. He was the leader of the non commissioned officers who asked Sink to relieve Sobel. As for Michael Fassbender, hes one of the first guys you see in episode 1. Hes the guy who Sobel notices drank from his canteen during the night march and makes him repeat all 12 miles of the march.

Oh wow!! I had no idea a Wahlberg was in this, that's cool!

I thought this in the first episode as well, but it seems that when Myles uses Dani's first name, he's speaking as someone else. Someone older, knowing, and wily. The whole "legion" story form the Bible piques his interest, and suggests that he is being driven by some other being. Oh and as for pigs, it seems they're eating a good deal of sausage at Bly...
user avatar
brandonlikesmovies - 12 Oct 20 04:44
Great observations!! I'll definitely pay attention to the times Myles says "Dani" specifically going forward
user avatar
User #448661 - 10 Oct 20 14:47
I'm glad they kept some of the same cast. I thought the casting for season one some of the best I've seen in a show. The kids and adult version felt like a real family .

The director of "The Innocents" (an earlier movie adaptation of the original story) was Jack Clayton. The last name of the new governess, Clayton. I'm sure that's intentional , or a heck of a coincidence....

Kinda neat, a long-time friend of mine (going back to 2002) is an actor in this show.

if you listen carefully to Hannah and Danny's conversation in the small chapel, Hannah mentions that Miss Jessel was dating a man who broke her heart.

User #4877020 - 11 Oct 20 15:25
So - I binged this entire thing the night it came out. If I'm sleeping alone and I watch something paranormal, then I'm not sleeping lol. I did the same with Hill House last year. But I'm super happy to watch it a second time with you and am already really enjoying a repeated viewing. It's one of those that benefits from it....just lots of little things to appreciate and pick up on. Even with you here though, I'm keeping this to daytime viewing lol ;) There'll be no spoilers from me of course. I'd never. But I'll be able to engage as we all hit certain parts together here.

if you're looking for another horror anthology series, American Horror Story does something similar where they use a lot of the same actors but have different stories for each season. I never watched past Season 5 but my favorite is Season 2 (Asylum) and I enjoyed all the seasons I watched.
user avatar
User #4877020 - 13 Oct 20 20:38
I’ve heard good things about that show. I’m strongly considering giving it a go. Good quality?
user avatar
User #513484 - 14 Oct 20 09:21
if you like horror, I'd definitely check it out. I haven't seen it past Season 5, not because I didn't want to but just because I just never got around to it. each season is unique in its own way and I will say that some seasons are better than others, but like any anthology I'd caution you not to compare the seasons. they should be seen as their own entity, even though most of the same actors are recurring. but the acting is top-notch and the writing and directing is very good.
user avatar
User #32607431 - 16 Oct 20 23:45
IMO AHS can’t keep up with the amazing writing of the Haunting shows. They’re too inconsistent in quality for my taste. Although I did enjoy a few of the seasons...

User #8119176 - 12 Oct 20 09:47
Copying a comment I made about this movie before: So, there's actually a whole book included in the DVD that explains everything, but that old woman (Roberta Sparrow) had experienced the same thing Donnnie did and her book that he read explained exactly what was happening, and they include that in the DVD. So when the engine from the plane in the future fell through time, it created a parallel universe, which is what we follow in the movie. The parallel universe is unstable. The longer it continues to exist, the closer it comes to collapse, which will destroy both universes. People who die in the parallel universe will be trapped (as Frank was). They will try to help (or trap) the person who can collapse the two universes together. Donnie is the center of it all. The only way for everything to be made right is for Donnie to die. Frank's ghost (who Donnie will eventually kill) is trapped in the parallel universe. He sets the trap that leads Donnie to the point where he must choose to die and fix the broken universe by getting Donnie's girlfriend killed (at Frank's own hands, no less). When the engine falls through time, Donnie goes back, and chooses to die, ending the paradox and stabilizing the universe, which is the only way his girlfriend will survive, thanks to Frank's trap. However in doing so, everything he did past that point essentially never happened. His girlfriend never knew him. Frank was never killed. The plane will never crash, etc. The last thing Roberta Sparrow wrote in her book is that, even after the two universes merge and are stabilized, people will still remember what happened in the alternate universe in their dreams. That's why everyone is waking up after Donnie dies. They all remember what happened. Which is why the sexual predator is crying. And why Frank reaches up and touches his eye. (PS: if you're curious about the water tubes coming out of people's chests, Roberta says that the person at the center of everything, as they gain more control over time, can see the paths people will take through time, so essentially he's seeing where people will go)
user avatar
User #7116679 - 12 Oct 20 10:06
I have read a lot about this and I really like this explanation. There is just one thing I don't understand. If everyone else has a memory of the parallel universe like Frank and Patrick Swayze ( I can't remember his in movie name lol) then why doesn't his girlfriend remember any of it?
user avatar
User #36034583 - 13 Oct 20 00:46
Basically, from what I understand, they all dreamed about the alternate universe and their reaction is what we see when they've woken up. So she does probably sort of 'remember' the same way that one would have brief memories of the dream they had the previous night. But when you dream about something, you usually don't remember it for very long, right? So anyway the way she acts at the end is probably an indicator that she reckognizes aspects of the Darko family from her dream, but they're likely very faint. She seems to think that she's seen Donnie's mother before, for example (at least that's how I interpret their interaction) but she probably doesn't know where from. Hope this helps!

Fran Kranz who plays Marty in THE CABIN IN THE WOODS is the clown who was in the car with Frank the Bunny. Also, if you really wanna see a young Jake Gyllenhaal, watch 91's CITY SLICKERS!

User #4977610 - 11 Oct 20 21:08
Wanted to share this, thought it was neat. Someone I know (acquaintance more than friend) is a music artist and is a big fan of Donnie Darko. He made a music video inspired by Frank the Rabbit (he features a rabbit and a movie theatre scene), and remixed a key song from the movie for a song, as well and recorded all three verses of it in one take: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FD6cTLy3aY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWFdMbZgKUw Quite old now, but I think this would be enjoyed by a Donnie Darko fan :)
user avatar
User #35398098 - 10 Oct 20 20:37
It may help to look up a video explaining the movie. I have seen it multiple times and I have a hard time tracking all the strands. It's such an interesting movie.
Quick Update 2020-10-09T19:56:04+00:00

Donnie Darko full length is coming later today, had some issues with the export so I'm having to re-render and reupload it. (Which means the YouTube edit is pushed to tomorrow) But also, there's some surprise reactions coming today as well for those in the full length tier! Hope you'll enjoy!

I couldn’t tell if you watched the director’s cut or theatrical cut. I personally love the theatrical most because it was fun trying to figure out what I had just seen afterward. Director’s cut spoonfeeds a lot of it to the viewer, and some song choices are different too; not a fan. I actually didn’t get to see this in the theater (but wanted to). I saw a screener copy from the videostore I worked at and it’s the only time I’ve immediately loved a movie from the opening sequence alone!
user avatar
brandonlikesmovies - 13 Oct 20 02:36
I did watch the theatrical cut, and I agree it's great trying to make sense of it all and slowly discovering more and more about the story and characters over time!

Linda Blair who played the girl did the exorcism scenes in her voice but it just wasn't scary enough, they used a woman who could turn her voice into something horrific by smoking, drinking eggs and drinking.

Little piece of trivia: The makeup done on this film was done by Dick Smith, the same man who was responsible for the incredible makeup in Taxi Driver.

Exorcist II is not good, but an interesting disaster. The Exorcist III on the other hand is an overlooked gem. Weirder and more inline with a police procedural. It's got some Very creepy moments.

Quite frankly a masterpiece of horror

There's a creepy spider walk scene in the Director's Cut right after she was told Burke Dennings dies. You can see it on You Tube. And a few scenes with Father Damien that's about it.

I would have liked to see your reaction to the "spider walk" scene, from the uncut version. If your curious : https://youtu.be/QAvjEXWxLyA?t=64
user avatar
User #32578915 - 8 Oct 20 09:27
It's not the scariest but it's definitely a masterpiece of horror.
user avatar
User #8119176 - 8 Oct 20 11:39
Here's why it's so scary -- because that could happen to anybody unless your a Christian and even then, its' still possible. I've had experience with this shit in real life, nowhere near this level, but I can tell you I quickly understood that Heaven and Hell, and God and Evil in Carnaite, the Devil, absolutely exist and they're around us 24/7. When you and your uncle are attacked by a spirit the size of the Predator in a barn and the only thing that hurts it is the name "Jesus Christ" you quickly realize He's the Son of God

user avatar
User #28125808 - 8 Oct 20 00:34
My all time favorite movie, i asked him about it before i think he said he will cover it at some point but he's a little hesitant because it's quite disturbing, i absolutely agree about it being unique it really is one of a kind and nothing even comes close to it and nothing ever will it's just so different to everything else.
user avatar
User #27971188 - 8 Oct 20 00:37
My guy! And he's checked out American Psycho so he should be good to go. ACO is not really worse when you think about it
user avatar
User #28125808 - 8 Oct 20 00:53
Yeah to me it's not that bad, at the time in the 70's i understand the reaction, so much has come out since then that i would say is a lot worse in the "disturbing" parts of things, "I Spit on your Grave" and "Salo or the 120 Days of Sodom" (which i couldn't even finish) is a prime example of that this movie doesn't even come close to them IMO....A Clockwork Orange is too good to miss and it's one of the very best Kubrick movies, and like i said before my all time favorite movie :) He should be covering it though so not to worry!
user avatar
User #27971188 - 8 Oct 20 01:01
Unfortunately, it's the voters who dictate what Brandon watches and I doubt that the majority in here knows about ACO or are gonna vote for it..

True that! fingers crossed man! :)

I'm not explain what I think this movie is it would be to long. But I do think it's one of the most complex horror films of all time.

"I'm the danger" and "You're goddamn right" are the best lines in the series. You will see, soon...
user avatar
User #13042967 - 7 Oct 20 14:29
Please stop with the spoilers.........so unnecessary
user avatar
User #41771789 - 8 Oct 20 13:03
Why would you become a patreon to spoil?
user avatar
User #35321951 - 8 Oct 20 15:07
Where is the spoiler? Please tell me, oh i see, i guess reading "you're goddam right" said everything about the rest of the series, he probably can see the future aswell
user avatar
User #12536116 - 11 Oct 20 04:50
It's a very small spoiler but it is still one none then less..
user avatar
User #4877020 - 11 Oct 20 21:25
If it hasn't happened in the series, it's a spoiler. Want to be snarky about unnecessarily posting things that he hasn't seen yet? Come up with a better way to back it up then. Knock it off.

Walt's a genius, yet he's never smart enough to see how his actions or words may hurt others. We saw that a lot this episode.
user avatar
User #4877020 - 11 Oct 20 21:36
Man....if I were in Skylar's position and my husband said to me what Walt said to her -- I'd be terrified of him.
user avatar
User #157238 - 6 Oct 20 22:55
the 'same guy he got arrested earlier' had about 5 assault rifles open fire in his chest :D
user avatar
User #4977610 - 8 Oct 20 02:33
Sad thing is it wouldn't drive a wedge between Walt and Jesse if Walt's precious ego and jealously weren't so damn potent. If he were to just be happy to see Jesse off the drugs and feeling pride in himself, they would be doing great. Gus and Mike no long have the liability Jesse who is broken, depressed, doesn't value his life, and is binging drugs to worry about. Walt *could* be content with Jesse doing better, and they could simply do their work and make money. It's only if Walt is jealous of Jesse and bitter and upset that it would have potential to drive a wedge.
user avatar
User #4977610 - 8 Oct 20 03:06
Man that protect family line is heavy. It's sad because Walt could have made Walt Jr happy simply by being involved in his life and living at home and being there all the time. Complex character and family dynamic for sure. Very sad state.
user avatar
User #6193969 - 7 Oct 20 11:14
This is probably my favourite episode, just because of the dialouge and acting of Bryan Cranston
user avatar
User #23831418 - 6 Oct 20 20:17
Hell yes!
user avatar
User #16777205 - 7 Oct 20 21:15
Also I'm so happy you've gotten to the episodes where we see more Mike. He is my absolute favorite character.
user avatar
User #4977610 - 8 Oct 20 03:01
I just want to add, when I give my thoughts, I am only doing so not considering what is yet to come, simply based on what we have taken in so far. That isn't to imply I got it right or wrong and am trying to cover for it, either. I say it as a blanket statement just in case brandon were to be concerned that I may be factoring in future events in my thoughts; I'm not
user avatar
User #4977610 - 8 Oct 20 02:43
I think Mike was already sure they had the crystal, his plan just required waiting before timing their retrieval of it. Maybe you're right though, and it was more wait and confirm the rumour, and then retrieve. After watching again, that may be!
user avatar
User #4977610 - 8 Oct 20 02:28
I think it was Walt agreeing with Skylar or trying to agree with her and being in her good graces that made him make that comment about not spending too much on the wine bottle, as if to demonstrate he learned his lesson from the first time. Poor Walt Jr. being put through that roller coaster not understanding and thinking his dad is back, then gone again. Think Walt is just trying to cheer him up, but it's his choices which he stands by that are putting him through it. What a messy family situation. And also I think with Walt unwilling to budge, and clearly he blew it with Skyler/probably scared the shit out of her, where she knew him as a completely different man her whole life, he's in not give a **** mode and wants to have fun and enjoy his money how he wants
user avatar
User #4977610 - 8 Oct 20 02:39
Lol that coffee cheers to the camera really makes me wonder who the liability is. I think above all else Gus' plan is and has always been to make lots of money. Right now Walt seems unwilling to keep his mouth shut and do his job (cook) It's like a snowball. He wouldn't need to be manipulated if he didn't have the flaws that ironically make him so easy to manipulate
user avatar
User #16777205 - 7 Oct 20 20:37
"Iam the danger" "I am the one who knocks" well there it is. One of the best lines in the show right there :D
user avatar
User #11112270 - 7 Oct 20 02:34
The next episode through the end of the season is my favorite stretch of the entire show. I love your enthusiasm for the series. Enjoy the ride and keep up the great reactions.

“A guy opens his door and gets shot and you think that of me? no. I am the one who knocks” cue to Skylar crapping her pants

It's sort of an interesting parallel. Gus "manipulating" Jesse into having a sense positive sense of self worth, just like the guy who gave Hank the case file did. I still feel like that was intentional as well, after seeing Marie break down at the station.

I'm glad you discussed how all the character's actions fit their characters and where they are at to a tee. The creator, Vince Gilligan, talks about that a lot when discussing the style of his writer's room. They purposefully didn't write ahead to the end of the show, instead just presenting questions an episode at a time and saying "How would (this character) respond right now?" I think it's brilliant.

I really feel like starting with these 2 episodes, the show has it's very, very strongest run of consecutive episodes that carries into the next season. It's really hard to isolate and the competition is and has been so stiff. But we get a string of great episode and great episode and some of the best of the series starting now.

Actually I thought you were talking Episode 9 which i think is the best episode
user avatar
User #32578915 - 4 Oct 20 05:31
Ah the Battle of the Bulge. Yes Easy Company was tested to their limits . I read they were at the front of Bastogne. They were getting pounded pretty bad.
user avatar
User #9240308 - 4 Oct 20 22:27
Loving your Band of Brothers reactions, this episode is one of my fav of the season. By the way, the story you mentioned during the Christmas scene actually happened during World War 1 (Christmas Truce 1914 if you want to do some more research). There is a pretty good French movie done in 05 called Joyeux Noel that deals with the Christmas Truce. (possible Christmas movie reaction). Anyway looking forward to more BoB reactions.

Episode 7 is my favorite too; going into Foy, awesome!
user avatar
User #11022635 - 4 Oct 20 14:41
my favorite episode, personally. really cool and smart choices to (1) center the whole episode around the medic, (2) keep it grueling, cold, dark, slow, hopeless, waaaiiiiiting, depressing, work work work. sets us up for the next ep perfectly as well, so you see a clear build of tension from 5 (light, orderly) to 6 (freezing, weary) to 7. the blue frozen setting also provides a nice departure from the usual warm and green tones that we usually see. also, note quote from the AV club review of this ep: "The whole episode is framed around these ideas of common medical supplies that Roe desperately needs more of—particularly morphine and bandages—and it turns something that could be horribly abstract into something intimate and personal."
user avatar
User #30785920 - 4 Oct 20 08:31
Rene was based on a real person. She did die in the Bastogne. Eugene (Doc Roe) has been there in several episodes before this. Most predominately was when Lt Hilberger (Moose) was shot by friendly fire walking down the railroad tracks with Winters. Eugene was chewing out Winters and Harry Welsh for not remembering how much morphine they gave him. He was also there in the barn when they carried in Ally who was wounded, and that started the whole movement by Winters to get to the Crossroads where Ally was wounded. The M that Doc marked on Lt Welsh's head was to indicate that he had been given morphine. So when another medic or doctor starts treating him they won't give him too much. Too much could slow somebody's heart rate down too much.
user avatar
User #9476897 - 4 Oct 20 09:17
You covered just about everything I was going to comment. I'll just add Renee's full name was Renee Lemaire, and Roe also treated Winters when he got a ricochet bullet in the leg, and diagnosed Pvt. Blithe's hysterical blindness.
user avatar
User #29262732 - 4 Oct 20 13:50
Renee is called the Angel of Bastogne.
user avatar
User #21259669 - 4 Oct 20 13:18
Really enjoying your BoB reactions so far. I wanted to re-watch it for a long time. If you are interested in the topic of WW2 I can recommend the following Documentaries for your personal education: 1. The World at War (1973 - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071075/) – very long, but also probably the best Documentary about the 2nd World War, including Interviews from Survivors, Politicians and Soldiers from all sides and explaining also a lot about the political backgrounds and decisions. It is scary how relevant it is still today. 2. The War (2007 - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0996994/) – shorter and mostly from the US perspective, but very high production value. I hope you can find some time to check them out.

I remember 7 very well. Extremely emotional episode. It made me cry.
user avatar
User #16132319 - 4 Oct 20 17:22
It is a great episode, but also really hard to watch. It's pretty much just constant misery and suffering. I have infinite gratitude for all veterans of the Battle of the Bulge.
user avatar
User #18593479 - 9 Oct 20 21:19
The M means he was already given morphine I think.

User #11179721 - 10 Oct 20 00:35
I love this episode.
user avatar
User #40960352 - 4 Oct 20 17:14
You saw Doc Roe throughout, but he was never the focus so hard to notice; he treated Winters's ricochet in episode 3 and Blythe's sudden blindness, and he yelled at Winters in the previous episode for not keeping track of the amount of morphine given to Easy's new leader after he was hit with the friendly fire. Those are probably the most obvious times you'd have seen him before

When are we getting episode 7? I'm new to your Patreon and don't know your schedule. Absolutely love this show
user avatar
User #10150616 - 5 Oct 20 01:42
This and "The Breaking Point" are my favorites of the series. I'd give "Why We Fight" a very close third. Others have given you the actual history with the episode. Medics have a rough job. If you haven't seen Hacksaw Ridge, it's about a medic in the Pacific theater of the war. True Story. Also, since you've talked about Battle of the Bulge, I'll once again recommend Patton. You don't even have to react to it for the channel. Just knowing you'll see that masterpiece is enough. You get Patton's side of the BotB plus so much of everything else. Cannot rec that film enough. As for what I can add - almost the entirety of the Bastogne stuff is on specially constructed soundstages. They wanted complete control over the environment - it's why you get all the awesome battle stuff in this ep and the next. Looking at it with my Blu-rays, I can tell in a few shots where things are clearly fake, but otherwise it's almost impossible to tell the difference. Very much looking forward to next week because TBP slightly edges out this ep in my favorites. Plus, youll be reacting to "The Last Patrol" which is my fourth fave of the series and you'll get a surprise guest star you'll appreciate! Can't wait for your reaction to it!

Also, Guerneire complaining about pissing needles is a call back to the previous episode when he was looking for "Lulu's" when he came back to the Company. So he must have found Lulu and he got the clap lol.

User #23116054 - 4 Oct 20 06:45
A few notes and a critique for you. 1. The truce you were thinking of was the Christmas truce of 1914 on the Western front in World War 1. 2. Private Gordon was indeed paralyzed. The only reason he knew that Lipton was standing on his hand was because he looked over and saw it. He had no idea until that point. 3. Renee was indeed a real person. She is based off of Renee Lemaire who was a Belgian nurse in Bastogne. She was killed in a German air raid on Christmas Eve, 1944. As for my critique, and I don’t want you to take offence to this because I love your reactions and greatly enjoy and appreciate your comments on the show and how it makes you feel...but I suggest trying not to talk over the dialogue. I know it’s difficult with how much there is but you are missing so many little things that would have a huge impact on your understanding of what’s going on and who everyone is. Almost all of the dialogue in this series has meaning behind it and is meant to help the viewer understand certain nuances. Thanks again for reacting to Band of Brothers. Prepare yourself for episode 7 because it is an absolute masterpiece in television history and is the crown jewel of this show, in my opinion anyways.
user avatar
User #11022635 - 4 Oct 20 14:36
i would not like if he spoke less since we're paying for his reactions, lol. i'd recommend brandon read episode reviews/recaps (the av club has excellent ones!) if he's worried about missing any pertinent dialogue
user avatar
User #29262732 - 4 Oct 20 14:50
I agree about the talking over dialogue. A lot of character development, information and humor is being missed, lessening the richness and enjoyment of the series.
user avatar
User #10150616 - 5 Oct 20 01:46
All I can say to the commentary making him miss dialogue, is I'm almost certain he'll watch this series again on his own. He'll catch all of that stuff and it'll make even more awesome for him. Picking up the things he missed.
user avatar
User #40960352 - 4 Oct 20 17:09
One of the best episodes in all of television.

The Christmas Truce was during WWI. British and German troops celebrated Christmas together and then had to go back to killing each other.

Jimmy Fallon and Bill Burr don't always take acting jobs, but when they do, it's in two of the highest rated TV shows in history ✌😬

Often if you see a soldier or veteran staring blankly they are usually going through a PTSD episode.
user avatar
User #37854039 - 5 Oct 20 19:19
When Major Horton's death came up you said you weren't sure if you recognized his name, but that maybe if you saw him you would. Major Horton has only been mentioned and never shown directly. We hear him indirectly in Ep.1 as he is being impersonated by George Luz when Sobel is told to cut the fence during one of the exercises.

Funny detail to think about, Tom Hanks LOVES type writers. No coincidence the episode he directs has a lot of type writer focus.

That blank stare is called the “thousand yard stare”, although in WWII they called it a bulkhead stare. It’s indicative of PTSD.

Jimmy Fallon starred with Drew Barrymoore in the Faralley Bros comedy, Fever Pitch. It's an American remake of a British movie of the same name. I don't know a lot of people who liked it but I love that movie. It's the only one I can think of off the top of my head with Fallon in a huge role. He's good in it. Plays off Barrymoore well. You're getting into my two favorite episodes of the series - "Bastogne" and "The Breaking Point". Probably a good thing you're seeimg them separately. They're emotionally heavy. Also, dude who Winters was telling to scrounge up ammo - Lt Dike - is the new CO of Easy. We get glimpses of him not quite being up to snuff as a leader in this ep. Nixon, I believe, mentioned Easy's men calling Dike "Foxhole Norman", implying he's cowardly. Ill save the correction of in accurate information about him until after you've seen "The Breaking Point" tho.

You should read the book if you get a chance.
user avatar
User #27971188 - 3 Oct 20 01:08
How many movies are you planning on reacting to the month of October?
user avatar
brandonlikesmovies - 3 Oct 20 02:48
Same as usual. 2 per week, plus the 2 additional patreon only
user avatar
User #10100569 - 3 Oct 20 23:25
Loved the reaction! I really hope you put Equilibrium/Cubic on the poll someday. One of my favorite Bale movies and very similar to V for Vendetta.

Ha ha ha Christian Bale is absolutely insane in this 🤣
user avatar
User #9840466 - 2 Oct 20 22:36
this will be good, amazing movie
user avatar
User #28125808 - 3 Oct 20 01:33
Awesome movie, brilliantly acted probably my favorite Bale performance, there is a sequel but i haven't seen it yet, looking forward to the horror month! horror is my favorite genre! lets do this!
user avatar
User #20112451 - 3 Oct 20 04:34
My personal take on this movie is that Patrick did all the murders but has psychotic delusions and when he talks to his lawyer, his lawyer is just saving his ass by supporting the story Patrick created. You can even see his eyebrow raise after he tells Patrick. I think in the end, Patrick realizes that everyone he works with is just as crazy as him and that his confession means nothing since no one will acknowledge any of his crimes.
user avatar
User #11223882 - 3 Oct 20 09:35
This was the first Christian Bale movie I ever saw and it remains my favorite. Your reaction was very similar to mine as I left the theater.
user avatar
User #15455538 - 4 Oct 20 15:52
Great reaction. Brandon, have you seen the new Planet of the Aps Trilogy?
user avatar
User #6288764 - 3 Oct 20 02:53
My take on this movie has always been that Bateman really IS Bateman, but just like how the one guy early on got him mixed up with Halberstram, the lawyer also got him mixed up with someone else simply because the business men are all so similar. Also whenever Bateman killed someone or said something about murder/torture/ect, it was only what he WANTED to say and he completely blacks out what he really does/says.
user avatar
User #2866918 - 2 Oct 20 22:37
Four!
user avatar
User #38903395 - 3 Oct 20 02:36
Funny, the Netflix version jumped ahead of your Uncut version at some point. So I guess it was even less uncut.
user avatar
brandonlikesmovies - 3 Oct 20 02:49
oh no! I wish versions were more consistent. Hopefully you could find your place ok again
user avatar
User #28125808 - 3 Oct 20 23:08
Lol it happened to me too but i found my way back! i can kind of make out where you are and i am by cuts and lighting, getting good at it now lol

User #28125808 - 3 Oct 20 23:07
Would you at any point consider reacting to "The Crow" if you haven't seen it already ? :)

Beetlejuice is cleaning up.
user avatar
User #24173411 - 1 Oct 20 12:03
A lot of people here don’t really know movies if Final Destination is winning. Seriously lol
user avatar
User #37171314 - 2 Oct 20 01:31
Oath.
user avatar
User #13042967 - 2 Oct 20 03:35
I think it's just loved because it's different. Objectively it's not one of the best movies on here but it's one of the more "fun" ones if that makes any sense.
user avatar
User #6125566 - 1 Oct 20 16:48
Martyrs or Eraserhead.
user avatar
User #17574518 - 1 Oct 20 07:31
Suspiria might arguably be the best film on here, but there's no way it wins.
user avatar
User #11855448 - 1 Oct 20 08:57
I was gonna say the same thing about Blue Velvet. Modern/mainstream movies tend to win these, but you can be surprised sometimes.
user avatar
User #17574518 - 1 Oct 20 08:58
Yeah Suspiria and the two Lynch films are my top three here, but I'm OK with several others winning.
user avatar
User #30781016 - 1 Oct 20 10:31
Candy man still gives me goose bumps. Just thinking about the score
user avatar
User #6195919 - 2 Oct 20 17:49
I've been watching some of your previous reactions. If you'd like a Disney movie with some nightmare fuel, check out Return to Oz, the unofficial sequel to The Wizard of Oz. Also, Ghostbusters 2 is (in my opinion) better than the first.
user avatar
User #18451937 - 1 Oct 20 20:31
even it loses, you gotta react to The Guest!
user avatar
User #40589350 - 1 Oct 20 13:01
God knows how Final Destination and Beetlejuice are beating the likes of Vertigo and Blue Velvet!
user avatar
User #11179721 - 4 Oct 20 16:40
You're really asking why a movie from the 60's and a Lynch movie isn't the most popular choice? Lol... And Beetlejuice is great...
user avatar
User #37171314 - 1 Oct 20 07:31
Can I pick the omen a few times please?
user avatar
User #448661 - 1 Oct 20 13:01
I loved beetlejuice as a kid. It gave me nightmares. but i enjoyed how weird an unique it was.
user avatar
User #13042967 - 2 Oct 20 03:36
Surprised Cape Fear isn't getting more love, excellent remake
user avatar
User #36851327 - 1 Oct 20 17:40
Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!
user avatar
User #7470375 - 1 Oct 20 14:44
An unusual poll, in that I've seen most of these. Per my MO of voting for ones I haven't seen, I'm going for Suspiria and The Hills Have Eyes.
user avatar
User #35816408 - 1 Oct 20 14:53
Lost Boys directed by Joel Schumacher (with Alex winter, Keifer Sutherland, Corey Haim) Beetlejuice directed by Tim Burton (Michael Keaton, Alex Baldwin, Winona Ryda, Geena Davis)
user avatar
User #42881100 - 1 Oct 20 13:00
The Lost Boys isn't getting enough love...
user avatar
User #16978627 - 1 Oct 20 16:41
I understand the voting system and I'm not the last to follow it. But how frustrating it is to systematically see masterpieces discarded in favour of more popular films. It would be nice if from time to time you could choose a film with a different method. For example, because the synopsis particularly attracted you. Or simply by picking at random from the huge list you were given. That way, every film will have its chance. I know, that doesn't sound like a very "market strategy" kind of suggestion. But how nice it would be to see something else. To be led to discover. To take a risk. PS (for the one who proposed Suspiria) : Thanks to you, I'm going to start watching "The three Mothers" trilogy.
user avatar
User #38045932 - 2 Oct 20 07:36
I voted for Vertigo and Night of the living Dead, and not just because I'm old-ish :)
user avatar
User #35816408 - 1 Oct 20 14:50
love the Lost Boys and Beetlejuice.
user avatar
User #36721359 - 1 Oct 20 18:26
I voted for Martyrs even though it will never win. Too many people have never heard of it and I don't know how you could ever edit it to get it on YouTube. It's arguably the most visceral, brutal movie I've ever seen. But it's not just torture porn. It's got real meaning behind it. If you can make it to the end. Brandon, my friend, trust me. At least watch it on your own time.
user avatar
User #35816408 - 1 Oct 20 14:55
the original Childs Play voiced by Brad Doriff is a classic too. Final Destination is a younger generation thing that have not watched classics yet

Not sure if/when Primer will happen, but I'm hella excited to see that reaction.
user avatar
User #7470375 - 1 Oct 20 14:40
The Abyss and Tremors are all I've seen. I tend to vote for ones I haven't seen for the novelty of watching it for the first time with someone else, so I'm going for Sleepy Hollow and Primer.
user avatar
User #6125566 - 1 Oct 20 16:45
Primer, just to watch Brandon's mind melt ;)
user avatar
User #32578915 - 2 Oct 20 01:03
I wouldn't call The Abyss scary. It's a damn good movie
user avatar
User #10150616 - 4 Oct 20 01:47
The way some of the people act in that film can be classified as horrifying. Not performances, but character actions.
user avatar
User #6692275 - 1 Oct 20 20:48
Mandy needs to make it sometime, if not now then later. None of the other films on this list come close in the “looks” department.
user avatar
User #42929178 - 5 Oct 20 04:28
Manhunter is the actual prequel to Silence of the Lambs, and William Petersen (who was main character in CSI and other stuff) does a wonderful Will Graham. The movie is written and directed by Michael Mann, another reason you will enjoy it. Great ambiance and it is creepy.
user avatar
User #32578915 - 2 Oct 20 14:11
If you want a horror underwater film I'd say Leviathan or Deep Star Six
user avatar
User #7116679 - 2 Oct 20 05:38
Tremors is an American Classic
user avatar
User #607731 - 2 Oct 20 03:36
Sorry. Only the special edition of the Abyss is worth watching. It veers to much in the original cut at the end
user avatar
User #36066673 - 1 Oct 20 20:25
Ugh I love funny games. what a shame its not going to get picked. :(
user avatar
User #36721359 - 1 Oct 20 18:31
ABSENTIA!!! One of the best independent horror movies in recent years. What it lacks in budget, it makes up for in mood, atmosphere, and ideas.
user avatar
User #22245011 - 2 Oct 20 00:27
I am seriously surprised how much I have in common with the rest of the voters. Here I am, thinking I’m the only person in the whole world that’s watched Tremors and here it is, the most voted?! Lol
user avatar
User #10150616 - 2 Oct 20 04:49
The Abyss DIRECTORS CUT only, bro. You need to see it the way Cameron intended.
user avatar
User #35398098 - 3 Oct 20 05:30
I love tremors. I watched the crap out of that one on my VCR as a kid(and I will be happy to see it reacted to), but I gotta push for The Abyss.
user avatar
User #35284497 - 1 Oct 20 15:35
Tremors is to good not to vote for.
user avatar
User #607731 - 2 Oct 20 03:35
The special edition is the o lyrics
TV Show Poll (Patreon) 2020-10-01T06:51:07+00:00

Band of Brothers will be finished by the 3rd weekend of October, so it's time to pick the next show to watch! I think it's been good to have these shorter-run shows on Patreon, so for this poll I'm doing shows only 4 seasons or less.

(Also, this is the max number of options I can put in a poll, so enjoy the selection!)

user avatar
User #17806460 - 1 Oct 20 07:33
If FARGO wins you need to watch the movie first. A) It's an American classic and B) it establishes the tone of the series and C) anything more would be spoilers.
user avatar
User #9143196 - 1 Oct 20 07:03
you have to add the sopranos to this list, please!

user avatar

HAS to be Mr. Robot cmonn man, actually criminally underrated and top tier TV. Whereas the majority of you guys want him to watch mediocre series like The Boys for the next few months??
user avatar

I would love to see him break down the camera angles and music. Love mr robot
user avatar

We can only imagine man, as not enough people have seen the gem that is Mr.Robot, I'd actually pay to see his reactions to the incredible cinematography, storytelling and twists along the way. Ive seen 90% of the shows on this list and Mr. Robot is by far the most 'reaction worhty'

God when Walt goes into his "one tear? two tear? one hand? two hand?" passive aggressive rants towards Skyler in this case, or Jesse previously with the killing Tuco plan, I can't lie I wish I could sock him a good one in the face lol
user avatar
User #4977610 - 7 Oct 20 03:52
You missed during the pizza convo, the guy with the tatts who was being ranted to was noticing Jesse handing him the cash and knew he retrieved it from his bedroom And yeah he knows he will get so much more soon (and yeah obviously being so messed up and damaged that he doesn't care about the circumstances, or does care a lot but this is better than having no one and confronting his demons)
user avatar
User #33181238 - 29 Sep 20 22:34
My grandfather, who was a medical doctor AND an ordained minister, actually got banned from casinos in Vegas and Reno by doing a similar counting system. I remember asking him when I was a teenager, "isn't gambling against the Bible?" He jokingly replied, "it isn't gambling if you have a system." :)
user avatar
User #4977610 - 7 Oct 20 03:21
I think writing this lie story is in a way Skyler's only way to feel close to Walt again, and also I think in a way she is trying to absorb herself in an alternative story that she would greatly prefer compared to the truth that is tearing her apart.
user avatar
User #14250677 - 1 Oct 20 02:50
After these I always watch the next 2 to see whats in there and I think u should just do 2 episodes daily now pretty please lmao we are entering the part of the show where it just goes up and up and up my friend

user avatar

I always wondered about who actually killed the kid. Mike is not a nice guy.
user avatar
User #4977610 - 7 Oct 20 03:45
That Walt rant to Saul is fascinating. He has such a major lack of self-awareness. Thinking he is the only professional one in the business, when he is the furthest thing from professional. Venting about how Skyler thinks he lives in some nice safe lab where he will just hang up his boots at the end of the day, why? Because he spent every conversation he had with her lying to her to try to convince her of that. Then he asks how things got so messed up. Lol, because of all of the many choices and lies he chose in progressing fashion, meanwhile refusing to exit at all available opportunities along the way. The man has his motives and it's complicated, and he has his points you can empathize with him on. And of course the TV show would suck if he took Gretchen's offer right away and the show ended. But man, one thing this man is not, is capable of seeing his own flaws and taking responsibility for his own actions. His self-awareness is so little. Thinks everyone else is the problem, things everyone else screws up, gets mad at everyone else, blames everyone else, never looks at himself. Excuses everything he does. Pathologically lies, and lies on top of that some more but would rage if someone lied to him.
user avatar
User #157238 - 30 Sep 20 14:49
"Clever making it someone who didn't seem suspicious before" - haha :D you mean the guy who intently watched Jesse as he went upstairs to get the money, then who camera focused on staring intently at the money being passed to conspiracy dude, with a furtive glance toward jesse? :D
user avatar
User #13042967 - 2 Oct 20 15:45
It was Aaron Paul's idea for Jesse to get a haircut. He said that when people are depressed or go through a rough patch they tend to change their hairstyle.
user avatar
User #33181238 - 29 Sep 20 21:48
Just a heads up to Brandon, you MAY notice a dip in your views for this episode, the one previous, and the one after. It has nothing to do with you. These episodes are certainly important for plot development but they aren't really the kind of episodes that reaction fans go searching for. Consider them like the "eye of the hurricane" where everything seems a little too calm, but rest assured, the storm is going to pick back up.

I think that blue light signified Hank's metaphorical deathly decay from continuing to lay in that bed. It would take the death, and the light shone onto that death of Gale in order for Hank to rise up out of that bed.

Walt claims to have done all of this for his family. Jesse did it for money and other personal reasons. Jesse lost his family and lost his lover, if you could call her that yet, to varying levels of direct or indirectness resulting of their co-operative endeavor that Walt initiated. Walt didn't sorta exactly lose everyone to the same extent, but pinned his son into an unfair situation (for Jr and Skyler both) of unknowing, and greatly diminished his relationship with his wife. Within this position, Jesse reaches out to bond with Walt like a family, something he needs and that Walt is damaging. Bonding with Jesse for a day isn't worse than leaving his family for a day for other things he needs. Jesse wants it. The two went through more together in many ways than many two people ever will. Walt should have taken the time for him.

The fact that Hulu removed the episodes with blackface (which were making fun of blackface and the person wearing blackface) but has no problem leaving an episode with a kid talking about a pedophile putting things in his "hiney" blows my mind. Not that ANY of the episodes should have been removed from Hulu. Great reaction, Brandon!

Is he watching on Hulu? Oh man, if he is and they removed that episode or even some episodes, yes, make sure to get your hands on those... I enjoyed every episode ever made. And The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis is in my top 5 episodes of the series.

So, I must say... In my opinion, Brandon is in for a treat... I think starting with his next 2 episode batch, he begins arguably the strongest prolonged run of consecutive episodes in the whole series. It's just banger after banger of very good to one of the best from here on for a looong stretch.

You mentioning tanks a lot leads me to believe the movie “Fury” would be a fantastic choice for you, a superb war film. Loving rewatching this with you, seen it so many times already but getting someone else’s reactions are fantastic. I’m still waiting for you to confirm that you will be following this up with “The Pacific” as i feel this would give you an education on the Pacific theatre of warfare in WW2 while showing off HBO’s talent for employing the best director’s, actor’s and crew of any television production company in history. The number of actors who in part owe their future fame and success to these 2 miniseries is really phenomenal. They really have shaped the future of film and television to the point where it is still blatantly obvious multiple years down the line. Keep up the great work Brandon! 👍😁

Ive noticed a few times that youre getting confused about the set up of the airborne. Easy Company was 1 of 9 companies that were part of the 2nd battalion of the 506th parachute regiment. Within Easy Company you had 3 platoons and a headquarters sections. Each platoon consisted of three 12 man rifle squadrons and a 6 man mortor squad. Sergeants were usually in charge of a squad, Lieutenants led each platoon, a Captain led each company. So when youre seeing other people “in charge” other than Winters its because they are focusing on a specific platoon or squad within Easy. Hopefully that somewhat clarifies things for you.
user avatar
User #23116054 - 27 Sep 20 02:07
I should say that the 506th was broken up into 3 battalions and a headquarters section. Each battalion consisted of 3 companies. Easy Company was a part of the 2nd battalion along with Fox and Dog Company
user avatar
User #10150616 - 27 Sep 20 21:55
Market Garden, as mentioned during the briefing, was a British led campaign. That's why the tank commander Martin tried to warn about the camouflaged Tiger tank was English. The Brits definitely had a different approach to things when it came to battles. I think you'd enjoy the film Patton, to see just how different it is, when faced with Montgomery's tactics. I'll be interested to see your reaction to Donnie Wahlberg's performance when you get to "The Breaking Point". He and his brother, Mark, are certainly better actors than singers.
user avatar
User #30700354 - 28 Sep 20 16:54
Donna spittin facts. Patton is a fantastic movie. Also, if you want a movie about how terrible Market Garden went, gotta recommend the movie, A Bridge Too Far

User #10664484 - 27 Sep 20 03:37
Michael Cudlitz (Abraham) plays Bull Randallman, since you mention missing his name. And Eindhoven, that Lt Winters mentions theyre bombing, was the city where Easy Company was welcomed in the beginning of the episode, unfortunately. And as someone mentioned below me, this show jumó started careers. Band of Brothers was in 2001 and his 7th acting credit. To date he has 57 credits. His big breaks were Atonement in 2007, Wanted in 2008, which led to Professor X in First Class in 2011. There will be others you see in the show who weren’t well known. Same with a film like Black Hawk Down, also from 2001, that has a lot of big name guys early in their careers.
user avatar
User #23116054 - 27 Sep 20 01:57
Popeye, the guy who was in the jeep with Sobel, was the soldier who was shot in the ass in episode 2 when Winters and the men were taking out the guns at Brecourt. He was apologizing profusely to Winters for getting hit because he felt like he let the guys down by getting shot. He went AWOL before Easy company jumped into Holland so that he wouldnt be re-assigned to a different unit.
user avatar
User #29262732 - 27 Sep 20 03:42
Right, and then we see that Buck got shot in the ass too. One bullet, four wounds. Easy Company tradition. 😂
user avatar
User #29262732 - 27 Sep 20 03:40
That jump into Eindhoven wasn’t training. It was an actual jump for Operation Market Garden, which was an Allied defeat. That’s why they retreated and had to find another way into Germany. If it had succeeded they may have ended the war by Christmas. Turns out it wouldn’t end until May 1945. Orange is the color of the Dutch Royal Family and symbol of Dutch patriotism.
user avatar
User #23116054 - 27 Sep 20 02:37
In episode 3, Easy lost 65 men killed and wounded. The 180 killed in this episode were the total from the entire 506th.
user avatar
User #10100569 - 27 Sep 20 03:52
What you have to remember is that for guys like McAvoy, Fassbender and others (no spoilers) this was very much in the start of their careers. "Wanted" was McAvoy's breakout role and that came out 7 years after BoB. Simon Pegg hadn't done anything major at the time, and even Fassbender who's a 2 time oscar nominee now.. this was his 2nd acting credit ever. This show literally started acting careers for so many future stars 👍 Glad you're enjoying the show.. absolutely love the reactions and I'm really enjoying watching this again.

User #10150616 - 27 Sep 20 21:49
Alot of great Brit actors in this series before they hit big. It's always fun to see them before they were huge. Andrew Lee Potts is in later episode. Think it was not long after he started on Primeval.

Hi Brandon! These reactions have been pretty great so far. You hit a homerun with true detective and now BoB. Your stuff has always been great, but these 2 new episodes had little problem that I have not seen before from you. You talked over dialogue quite a few times, which is weird because you didn't have this problem with true detective or first few episodes. Maybe you just got unlucky but you missed few great character moments. As I said I have not seen this problem before but just wanted to give you a heads up so you dont miss more great moments coming ahead. Other then that, great stuff as always, looking forward to seeing more :)

The main point of it all is that Blithe possibly faked being blind because he was so incredibly scared. Who wouldn’t be though? None of us know what we would be like in war until we are in it. It was a great shot by Blithe that he made killing the German. I think mainly to show that when you’re shooting a lot, you might not know what you hit. But knowing and seeing you take someone’s life...that is truly something many can’t imagine. And tough to live with the fact you took that life. Also, Blithe went on after this to have an extended military career. He did not die in 1948, as that was an error made by the producers. He went home and recovered, got a job at Westinghouse Electric. He then served in the Korean War and made it to Master Sergeant (he was a private in the show, which is entry level rank). He died from a perforated ulcer in 1967. Also don’t forget about Lt Ronald Speirs, truly an incredible man.
user avatar
User #29262732 - 27 Sep 20 02:22
It wasn’t a producer error. The men of Easy all thought Blithe died because they never saw him again.
user avatar
User #10664484 - 27 Sep 20 02:24
Very true Catherine. As all this was based on books by the soldiers of Easy. But at the same time, if he died in 67’, they had time to research if he actually did die in 1948, as they would have records of him serving in Korea and living for 23 more years past 1944.
user avatar
User #10150616 - 27 Sep 20 03:02
@Brandon, if I recall correctly, Blithe attended at least one of the annual Easy Company reunions. They would've had to have seen him. Plus, he was actually at the commemoration ceremony in Bastogne, for the Battle of the Bulge, when he died. Surely a lot of Easy were present for that as well and saw him.
user avatar
User #29262732 - 27 Sep 20 03:25
Thanks, Brandon. Yes, it was a compounded error from the men of Easy, then Ambrose, then the filmmakers. According to the link, Blithe served in Korea and in Germany until his death in 1967. He was not in the States much from the 50’s to his death. His family saw the series and contacted the filmmakers to correct it but it was too late. https://military.wikia.org/wiki/Albert_Blithe As the link states: “Blithe is the subject of a particularly glaring error in the book and mini-series, Band of Brothers. Fellow Easy Company Currahee veterans interviewed while writing the book and mini-series had believed, in error, that Blithe was wounded in the neck, and that he did not recover. In the book, author Stephen Ambrose reported those errors as fact, and stated that Blithe had died in Philadelphia in 1948. Ambrose's errors were compounded in the mini-series, in which episode 3, "Carentan", episode ends with a slide stating that "Albert Blithe never recovered from the wounds he received in Normandy. He died in 1948." After viewing the mini-series, the Blithe family publicly corrected this historical error, and requests were made to edit the mini-series to remove it. Photographs and records documenting his service after 1948 and his 1967 death are now posted on the website of the 506th Airborne Infantry Regiment Association.[2] However, the error has not been corrected in the book (though the 2001 UK edition makes no mention of Blithe's death) and has been perpetuated in the DVD editions of the mini-series. It is still in repeated broadcast of the series as recently as the November 13, 2012 broadcast of the episode on Spike TV, the April 27, 2013 broadcast on SoHo in New Zealand and the May 12, 2013 broadcast on Rai 4 in Italy. The Blu-ray version has an interactive guide called "In the field with the men of Easy Company", stating correctly that Blithe died in 1967, but Episode 3 still contains the error.” Ambrose should have verified the facts. I listened to a radio interview of Sgt. Blithe’s son from several years back, and he said his father was an alcoholic which killed him in the form of the ulcer.

user avatar
User #29262732 - 27 Sep 20 00:49
Enjoyed that reaction. I have one gentle criticism: you sometimes talk during dialogue and you miss details and some humor. For instance, when Perconte showed Blithe all the watches he looted, he said, “They’re all ticking, unlike their former owners”. You were commenting and then wondered if the watches worked. It might help you get the gist of conversation and pick up who is who if you held off commenting until after the dialogue is over. You mentioned surprise about Easy Company losing 65 men. That’s why they were pulled off the line. They needed R&R and replacements because they were whittled down. That’s the theme of the next episode. Cheers!

User #9476897 - 27 Sep 20 05:49
Here's some background on the army structure which might be useful as you continue with the series: the US Army is broken down to Divisions (i.e. the 101st Airborne Division). A Division is broken down into Regiments (506th Parachute Infantry Regiment). A Regiment is broken down into Battalions (2nd Battalion). A Battalion is broken down into Companies (Easy Company), with about 200 soldiers each. A Company is broken down into Platoons (1st platoon, 2nd platoon, etc). And finally each platoon broken down into squads (1st squad, 2nd squad, etc). So the story of Band of Brothers is about the men of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division of the US Army. And if you're interested in HBO show intro sequences, search Youtube for the intro to Carnivale. Even if you never get a chance to watch the series (although I highly recommend it even though it got an early cancellation), I think it has one of the best intro sequences.

Just some FYI: Spiers, the man who the soldiers were all talking about, is an important one to remember. The point of that conversation is that no one really knows what Spiers has or hasn't done. It's all hearsay. A guy heard from a guy heard from a guy who claimed he saw something happen. It's why the story kept changing as a different soldier told it. The only one that was known to be true was Spiers taking that last gun by himself. From that attack Winters led at the end of the previous episode. Malarkey (the guy who'd talked with the German prisoner) actually witnessed Spiers single handedly take that gun and said it was definitely a true story about Spiers. A note about Harry holding onto his reserve chute for his fiance to make a wedding dress out of - it was a common practice for soldiers who had access to them to hold onto them or send them home. A lot of parachute wedding dresses were made and worn post war. I've only seen one in person and it's pretty cool how good it looked.

User #448661 - 27 Sep 20 01:26
I don't know if you heard of Generation Kill. its another great HBO war series . This one is set during the Iraq war. It digs deep down to the personality of each character. The series is only 7 episodes.
user avatar
User #10150616 - 27 Sep 20 02:58
That's a great one too. I love that series almost as much as Bob. I imagine he'll probably do The Pacific before he moves on to something more recent. I appreciate the work that went into The Pacific but I didn't enjoy that series anywhere near as much as Bob or GK. The only episodes I've seen more than once with that series are the ones focused on Joe Mazzello's character.
user avatar
User #35395422 - 27 Sep 20 22:56
A lot of people prefer BoB to The Pacific but I think The Pacific is even more gruelingly realistic, and shows how a soldier in constant combat has his soul/compassion destroyed to where they can do unspeakable acts to people with no remorse. They're both fantastic series and among the best ever to portray WW2 soldiers experiences.

Albert Blithe didn't die in WW2. His brothers in arms, having heard no more of him, simply believed that he had died. He died December 17, 1967.

I saw this movie a long time ago, and all I could remember about it was that it has a great soundtrack. David Bowie, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein. You might be the first person ever to describe a Marilyn Manson song as "upbeat and cheerful." :D But I took your meaning. Other than the soundtrack, Lost Highway is lost on me. I'm not a fan of movies that are extra cryptic. I don't like having that "uh, what did I just watch?" feeling when the credits start rolling.

user avatar
User #4977610 - 26 Sep 20 10:23
Here is a short video I made for you. I originally started making notes for a shot for shot analysis, but I realized that, that is such a massive undertaking and would greatly exceed the run time of the movie itself. Instead, I will try to make this intro, then a similar overview of the acts of the film, and polish it with occasional videos which show screen grabs or very short clips I snip to demonstrate supporting motifs, images, lights, colours, sounds, angles, facial expressions, etc. Which form an intricate network that consistently support a broader narrative, leaving some leg room for ambiguity and interpretation

My Lost Highway DVD has been sitting on my TV for days in preparation for this moment!

Wow now this is a surprise! To soon be followed by Mulholland Drive perhaps? lol

Really good movie, loved yohr reaction! Can't wait until you get to Mulholland Dr, Lynch's best movie imo!

So it is a matter of condensing, toeing the line. I think I may just dish out a steady stream of small details I don't see others offer opinion of. The painting. The same beer bottle at Andy's party and also Pete's parents, stuff like that
user avatar
User #4977610 - 26 Sep 20 10:55
Oh btw: my fave aspect of this reaction was... I could in some way view the movie through the eyes of someone who isn't intently keyed into every little details broader, yet to be known intentions. It harkened me back to my first, or earlier viewings over 10 years ago when I was trying to piece it together without broader knowledge, like you were
user avatar
User #4977610 - 26 Sep 20 18:08
One of my issues I encountered is I have about 3 hours of dialogue for scene by scene breakdown (accompanied by screen grabs or short clips) of the first 28 minutes of the movie alone, lol
user avatar
User #4977610 - 26 Sep 20 18:06
I love your comment at the end and agree, too. It's fun to discuss or be exposed to ways of looking at such cinema, but when you are able to branch out on your own, or initiate on your own, it is the most rewarding
user avatar
User #4977610 - 27 Sep 20 02:33
Awesome!

User #12217762 - 26 Sep 20 23:17
I never saw anything pretentious! I found it ambitious! It’s hard tackling a very difficult movie to interpret like Lost Highway. Keep it up, man. I’ll share my own ideas later when I have time.
user avatar
User #6658073 - 27 Sep 20 14:44
If I remember correctly, there were a couple of scenes from that original showing that were changed in order to get a R rating. The murder scene and the porno playing on the wall with Marilyn Manson were edited.
user avatar
User #4977610 - 26 Sep 20 18:05
To be fair, and not intended to sound pretentious, when I first watched this film and looked online (imdb message board) I saw reviews, but no explanations or analysis. I formed my own, and never did end up looking again for explanations. Over the years I watched it more and more. It wasn't until literally the last 24 hours that I again looked up analysis videos, and while I feel different on many points from a lot of what I saw, I largely agree as a whole. And a few things I found are exact. Though I have not seen anything talk about the 2 paintings on fred's wall when him and renee watch the first tape, for example. Or a million other shot for shot moments. I gave Brandon a far more in-depth message, then I posted here, but yes I suspect my interpretation would largely fall in line with the consensus.

user avatar
User #6658073 - 27 Sep 20 14:42
I saw Lost Highway at Sundance in 1997. Waited in the standby line for 2 hours just to be able to see it. I loved it. First viewing of David Lunch movies is always just letting it be an experience. Second viewing is more about trying to figure out everything and catch things I missed the first time.
user avatar
User #4977610 - 26 Sep 20 10:25
I feel tacky saying it now btw, but I made a positive video about your channel on my, well, incredibly tiny nano-channel about you a while back.
user avatar
User #39024170 - 26 Sep 20 02:53
You should add I’m thinking of ending things to the poll! Really popular horror movie right now!!
user avatar
User #12217762 - 26 Sep 20 17:04
Thanks for the video Luke. Yeah what you said is the general accepted explanation of the movie. I still ignore it and try to come up with my own interpretation to this day. It’s a great exercise of digging into your own perception of reality and questioning your identity, existence, and reality.

I REALLY hope you watch more Wes Anderson! Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore, and Grand Budapest Hotel are all home runs. Hopefully they will be on some polls in the future.
user avatar
User #448661 - 23 Sep 20 20:16
Wes anderson movies are always a lot of fun. Fantastic Mr. Fox is one of my favorites of his. It's a stop motion animated comedy.
user avatar
User #17806460 - 24 Sep 20 09:19
The animals in this movie (the crabs, the crayon sea horse, the jaguar shark) were indeed stop-motion animation, done by Henry Selick (the director of THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS). After this Anderson went on to direct two full-length stop-motion animated features, THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX and ISLE OF DOGS. The little boy Steve carries on his shoulders at the end is Klaus' nephew who we met at the beginning of the film. Unbelievably to me, this movie was a flop when it came out in 2004. I think it's amazing, and it's tied with THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL as my favorite Wes Anderson film.

Wow! did not expect one of my favorite movies! Love this one, The Grand Budapest Hotel is also a great one. By the way, have you seen both blade runner movies? They are my favorite movies, along with this one and Big Fish. :D I have a feeling that Blade Runner 2049 would make you speechless if you haven't seen it already. Best looking movie ever, period. (No exaggeration)

If you have some sort of list of movie recommendations I would be so happy if you could add Big Fish to it. It's such a beautiful story with very colorful cinematography and wholesome characters. It's one of those movies that gets better and better with every viewing! :D
user avatar

You should watch 12 Angry Men (1957), if you haven't already.

When do you plan to watch rocky III?
user avatar
User #5712469 - 24 Sep 20 20:15
My Wes Anderson list is 1. Life Aquatic 2. Grand Budapest 3. Royal Tenenbaums 4. Darjeeling Limited. All his movies have a feel/style to them that is completely unique. Some of the shots are filmed as if in a dollhouse....

that scene where Dennis and Charlie co-write Nightman is one of my favorite sequences of the entire series. it's genius! also, anytime Charlie Day gets to sing on Always Sunny is a great time.

This is the episode I use to introduce people to the show. Almost every scene has a quotable joke or line.
user avatar
User #4977610 - 24 Sep 20 05:54
Funny you say that, I think this is the first episode I saw (it had just aired new) when my friend introduced me to it. I then got the S1+2 dvd set.
user avatar
User #42679466 - 23 Sep 20 00:30
I've rewatched Always Sunny countless times now and I'm still finding new things to laugh at. Mainly Glenn Howerton's performance, there's so many tiny things that he adds on top of the already funny script which are just genius. Like little faces, gestures or line deliveries which are so specific only he could've come up with it.
user avatar
User #33181238 - 22 Sep 20 18:02
Sometimes while driving I catch myself singing "Dayman" to myself.

User #4977610 - 22 Sep 20 12:27
Excited to watch. I must say, I think as good as Season 3 was, the run of episodes from episode 10 through to the end is the best part of this season. And I think Season 4 & 5 are the very best of the whole series so far. Season 6 is darn close, too. But the show stays very good all the way up to present.

User #4977610 - 6 Oct 20 22:39
I think the point with the gun purchase convo was Walt was choosing a route he could *not* talk his way out of. The guy was asking if it was a purchase for offense or defence. Because if it is defence, you are risking a felony and paying way more to have a gun with a scratched serial, if Walt bought the gun from him, there is no defence or argument legally if he gets caught with it. The guy was pointing out that if it is for defensive use, the state favours retreat/defensive use of deadly force, thus protecting him. But that only extends to legally owned firearms. Not guns like Walt is buying at a premium with felony scratched serial.

User #14250677 - 22 Sep 20 16:57

I see Gus killing Victor as a sign to Walter being "Well, you wanted to be the one cooking. So here, it's going to cost another body at the hands of you." He knew that Victor was more under his control but feels as though he can get anyone else to learn the cook since someone like Victor could. Gus always has the leverage and he knows it.

Same here. She gets a lot of flack, but if this series showcases anything, it’s that not a single character in it is perfect. She’s no different. Actually I have to say, one of my favorite moments was back in season 1 when she stood up for Walt making his own decision regarding his chemotherapy. And like you said - I really appreciate how she’s clearly trying her best with Hank.

I think Gus killed Victor because he was seeing at the crime scene

Ohhhh that's a great point, hadn't considered that
user avatar
User #39330970 - 22 Sep 20 12:23
Plus Victor didn't think to remove the evidence. I'm assuming by the time Fring goes to the lab, the apartment was already a closed crime scene.
user avatar
User #513484 - 1 Oct 20 02:25
yeah I think he killed Victor for that reason and also as an intimidation tactic. it was initially because he was seen at the scene of the crime, but also he wanted to show Walt and Jesse that they are never safe. kind of a killing two birds with one stone type of deal.

user avatar
User #513484 - 1 Oct 20 02:24
my favorite thing about the box cutter scene is that Gus commands that entire room without having to speak a word. Walt is speaking the whole time, yet he is not in control. and Gus is saying plenty. in my mind he is saying 4 things: 1) cut the shit 2) this is what will happen to you if you cross me me again 3 ) I'm tired of your shit 4) now start cooking (which technically he says at the end but that was more of a signal to let them know that he was finished). Giancarlo Esposito is a fucking fantastic actor and this scene is one of my favorites that he does in the entire series.

The budget for Band of Brothers (2001 release) was $125 million. Later, in 2010, Spielberg/Hanks produced The Pacific, another 10 episode series with a $200 million budget. I hope you will do The Pacific after BoB. It’s not the same in terms of theme, but if you watch it for what it is, you’ll experience a masterpiece about the dehumanization of war. BoB is about the brotherhood of war. Malarkey ran to those dead German soldiers looking for a Luger. He ran back empty handed and you were surprised he wasn’t hit. If you watch the way he ran, he ran in a zig zag. It’s much harder to shoot someone when they run that way rather than in a straight line. “Wild Bill” Guarnere (also “Gonorrhea”) was angry because his older brother was killed in Italy. He got the nickname “Wild Bill” because he went nuts killing Germans out of vengeance. Popeye got shot in the ass when he fell in the trench. Later, you’ll see that getting shot in the ass becomes a running joke in Easy Company. I think you will really enjoy the fraternal banter among Easy Company. There’s Luz, who’s like the class clown and can do amazing imitations of other people. He’s the one who imitated Major Horton and fooled Sobel into cutting the barbed wire fence. You’ll get to know these guys by name and by the end, you’ll feel like you’re a part of Easy Company and went on an incredible journey.
user avatar
User #29262732 - 20 Sep 20 00:47
Simon Pegg was Sgt. Evans, who was Capt. Sobel’s First Sgt. He was on the plane with Lt. Meehan, and was killed while flying into Normandy with the rest of the men in that plane.

Because he's not HBO Max and can't exactly buy the streaming rights to broadcast an HBO series.

Just became a patron when I saw on your channel that your were reacting to Band of Brothers. For some time I've been meaning to rewatch this show, and now I'm doing it with your commentary. Really appreciate your commentary, you point out some technical and acting aspects that make me appreciate this show even more.

Let's go. Such an incredible series

User #29262732 - 19 Sep 20 22:03
Band of Brothers is an oral history told by the men of Easy Company in World War II. Historian Stephen Ambrose interviewed the veterans, many who you saw in the beginning of this episode- those elderly men are survivors of the war. This series follows the exploits of Easy Company through WWII. The book, Band of Brothers is easily available and is a great read.

Am I the only one having sync issues ? I'm currently watching the full version on prime video (which gets it from OCS) and my version is always faster than Brandon's one : it desyncs in a matter of a few dozen of seconds.

Here's the solution someone shared: I fixed it by downloading the reaction and playing it using VLC player then setting the playspeed to x1.04

You mentioned you haven't seen Schwimmer in dramatic roles so I'd recommend the series "The People V OJ Simpson", he's fantastic in it.
user avatar
User #29165140 - 19 Sep 20 20:10
Woohoo, you're gonna recognize a hell of a lot of actors, many of them got early career boosts from this show.
user avatar
User #15453891 - 19 Sep 20 20:13
An absolutely fantastic choice!
user avatar
User #36652650 - 19 Sep 20 21:25
Many great actors got their starts in BOB. Michael fassbender and tom hardy to name a few. All characters are based of irl characters. Some scenes have shot by shot recreation from real life footage from the time. And finally. Private ryan belonged to easy company in saving private ryan. He is fictonal and obv not here but the series and the movie still ties together.

So excited to start this. I haven't rewatched this in many years. It's really special.
user avatar
User #32578915 - 19 Sep 20 19:34
Quite frankly one of the best war series ever made
user avatar
User #10150616 - 21 Sep 20 02:02
As others have told you, it's based on real events and real people. Once you finish the series, if you haven't already, definitely get a hold of the DVD or Blu-ray set. The extras are amazing. The behind the scenes of the actors in boot camp is my favorite. The actors kind of took on aspects of the people they're portraying. Like Damien Lewis displayed the innate leadership qualities of Dick Winters during training and so on. The book it's taking its information from is great. I used to reread it once a year but haven't had the time the past few.

User #28392681 - 20 Sep 20 16:11

Never subscribed to a Patreon before, but been lovin' Brandon's Youtube and Band of Brothers is, by far, my favorite series of all time. I'm all in for this. Curahee!!

User #38420717 - 20 Sep 20 00:53
Just finished this reaction. I've been looking forward to it so much. BoB is extremely important to me. I've seen it well over 30 times and it is responsible for why I majored in history and went into it as a field. I loved seeing your reactions to it, especially your love of the cinematography. - Band of Brothers was released in 2001 - As others have said, the men interviewed are the real men. They purposefully did not say who was speaking to keep the suspense for who made it to the end. - Simon Pegg was actually in the episode quite a bit before you recognized him. He was Sobel's right hand man. - Kirk Acevedo who plays Joe Toye was not in Saving Private Ryan. He was in The Walking Dead though as well as The Thin Red Line. - In the scene with the planes taking off in the end they only had 2 actual planes which were real. They used CGI to replicate the rest.
user avatar
User #10150616 - 21 Sep 20 02:03
I think maybe he mistook Kirk Acevedo for Adam Goldberg.
user avatar
User #15586782 - 20 Sep 20 00:23
I'll never get tired of watching this series; even more when someone watches it for the first time, cheers!
user avatar
User #822758 - 19 Sep 20 23:36
Surprised you did not name Michael Fassbender and Simon Pegg when they were on screen, Brandon. Edit: I see you caught Simon Pegg the second time. Haha
user avatar
User #448661 - 19 Sep 20 19:37
Im so excited for this one. I haven't seen it in 10+ yrs. Edit: Abraham from the Walking Dead. That's who you were thinking of. I didn't even notice until you mentioned it. He was great in that role.
user avatar
User #10636726 - 19 Sep 20 20:01
The interviews at the start of episodes are the real life people portrayed in the show. They don't say who is who until the finale.

FYI: The Abyss is a great sci-fi movie, and also has one of the best movie scenes I've ever seen. Not going to say anything more, don't want to spoil it. It's a must watch at some point, especially since you like sci-fi so much.

User #10150616 - 21 Sep 20 02:08
Watch the Directors Cut if The Abyss wins. The restored scenes add so much more depth and sense to the film. I can't watch the theatrical cut anymore because of it.

Session 9 for sure. Cube, and also the short-film black and white Cube. Abyss
user avatar
User #35398098 - 19 Sep 20 14:47
The Abyss is a great movie, but just as amazing is the "Making of The Abyss". That film shoot is LEGENDARY. They filmed much of the movie in an underwater set, made in half-constructed nuclear power plant. Many shots in the movie were done "for real" with scuba gear. It sounded like one of the most difficult shoots of all time too.
user avatar
User #3389831 - 19 Sep 20 07:50
Alll about the Abyss. Seeing some folks say it isn't so spooky, but idk... parts of that movie were spooky as fuck.
user avatar
User #40996029 - 19 Sep 20 12:42
If that's the Triangle movie from 2009, it needs way more recognition. I saw it mentioned on one of those "top 10 movies you never heard of" lists. I've watched it a few times, and it's amazing.
user avatar
User #5015060 - 22 Sep 20 01:06
The Den is actually a really really good movie considering it’s shot from a webcam/computer pov kind of like unfriended.
user avatar
User #15368151 - 19 Sep 20 08:18
Cube is pretty good, but I've got to throw in a pity vote for Session 9. Few people have seen it, but it's amazing for a low-budget horror.

How can anyone not vote for Sleepaway Camp, for the reaction to the ending alone, Brandon you must do this movie one day, even if it doesn't win, I guarantee it will be one of the most memorable reaction videos you make.
user avatar
User #41867199 - 21 Sep 20 17:54
Primer is a fantastic movie considering it was made for only a few grand, probably won't win this poll but it's worth a see sometime to just get inspired by amateur filmmakers.
user avatar
User #33181238 - 22 Sep 20 03:53
I have gotten to where I really enjoy watching low budget indie sci-fi movies. When they don't have a bunch of expensive CGI and star power to rely on then that just means they have to focus more on the writing.
user avatar
User #6010064 - 19 Sep 20 05:11
Cube is a pretty good film compared to greats but I’ve always enjoyed tf out of that movie. Please do it first I’d love to watch it (yet again) with you.

Dawn of the dead,!!

Jacob's Ladder is soo good. I very nearly made it my request for next month. Donnie Darko is great. Mulholland Drive is good. It is many people's fave Lynch film. Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive are very similar, and it is way more popular for those who like that vein of his work to favour Mulholland Drive, so I'm odd in that case. But I like MD, too. Would be a good follow-up to Lost Highway if you enjoy that.

Future boy, I'm not intending to speak for Brandon - just saying, I think that not winning the poll doesn't rule out the film being reacted to; in fact finishing 3rd probably helps. I get the impression he wants to react to what he wants to react to and is interested in, while also putting an effort into what we collectively most want to see, as well balanced in. I think the purpose of picking the top 2 is more so for what to officially schedule in for a viewing (with a near endless amount of viewing options out there). Not to eliminate others. EIther way though, agreed, almost all of these films are good :) Sometimes too a better movie (subjective of course) might be lesser known so less popularly voted, but him watching it will get other patrons to watch it as well so they can watch his reaction after, which is a win for everyone
user avatar
User #188085 - 19 Sep 20 19:38
I hear you. And I think Brandon should choose more of the films himself. It must be frustrating having certain films you want to watch, but having to wait until they win a poll. You can only watch then for the first time once!
user avatar
User #89188 - 19 Sep 20 05:00
Sooo looking forward to any of these. I know you're doing the Cronenberg The Fly, but you should definitely check out the original 50s or 60s movie if you want a cheesy good time on your own. Congrats on 60k too.

user avatar
User #3389831 - 19 Sep 20 05:06
I'm going to be honest, I saw Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist for the first time in my early 30s after hearing about them all my life and... was not impressed. I wonder how they hold up to others without the nostalgia.
user avatar
User #513484 - 19 Sep 20 05:35
I don't wanna talk too much about either of them here for fear of spoilers but I've seen both multiple times and they are in my Top 5 horror movies for a reason. btw, I am 37 years-old so they are not movies from my era by any means. I'd love to discuss them with you after Brandon has seen them though because there is so much to unpack as far as film-making and the horror genre goes with both films.
user avatar
User #13042967 - 19 Sep 20 11:49
Man that's surprising to me. Both are excellent films. You have to be okay with slow pacing for sure, but that's never bothered me personally. I like movies that take their time if the storytelling is good.

Rosemary's Baby or Black Swan for me. :)

user avatar
User #188085 - 19 Sep 20 10:45
This is a little weird the way these recommended films have been put into polls. The films that finish 3rd and 4th in this poll *won't* get reactions, but the films that finish 1st and 2nd in the other poll (which were recommended less) *will* get reactions. Not a huge problem, because almost all these films are good, but some of the more highly recommended films will miss out.
user avatar
User #11691494 - 19 Sep 20 16:18

Jackie Brown is my 2nd favorite Tarantino film (Django being 1st). This movie is fun to get lost into. After awhile you feel like you're hanging with the characters. its nice to just sit back and let the great music and dialogue wash over you.
user avatar
User #9816443 - 19 Sep 20 04:04
Sometimes a movie requires more than one viewing. The first time I sat down to watch Jackie Brown, I wasn't so impressed. I didn't hate the movie, but I didn't love it either. I thought it was very good. The second time I watched it, I knew the plot already so I really got to indulge in the characters of the film. And that's exactly what the film is, it's a character piece. Those of who expect an energetic, stylized, violent, comic book-esque film like Pulp Fiction will not get that from this movie. Its a lot more tamed, and to say the least realistic. I love Pulp Fiction, one of my favorite movies and definitely my fav QT film. But I doubt in the real world there would be two hit men in matching black and white suits. The scenarios of that movie, while fun and totally entertaining, aren't too realistic. Jackie Brown on the other hand has totally real characters that don't come off as too over the top. Some may think this is just a crime/heist movie. But to me there is something quite beautiful to this movie. After a few viewings of the film, you will notice that underneath it all, this movie is really about two people. Jackie Brown and Max Cherry. Two people who are middle aged, lonely, and tired of their dead end jobs. Two people that meet in a very unlikely way. Two people that together figure out a way to steal $500,000 and get away with it. Take this movie however you want it. But to me, thats the heart of the movie, and thats why the movie works so well. In conclusion, Jackie Brown is not a graphic crime story like Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction that preceded it. Instead it is a stand alone film. A wonderfully acted character study. And for me, an absolute underrated gem of a film.

lemmy, I've had the same thing (I'm not in the UK, though) for some reason. Oddly in more recent things I've watched, it has seemed to be synced better. But I would often watch something, and the time would slowly become more and more disjointed. I just found that in the blurred image of what Brandon is watching, when I see a scene cut happen a few seconds different, I just pause my video for a moment until it re-syncs. I find it odd more than anything, but easy to work around once you notice
user avatar
User #188085 - 20 Sep 20 01:12

User #19564851 - 19 Sep 20 01:01
Even though this is Tarantino's 3rd film and he made it in his mid 30's, Jackie Brown is still to this day his most mature work. I Love how he captures the melancholic heartbreak of letting an opportunity walk out the door as the camera lingers on Max after Jackie leaves his office for the last time. Beautiful film.
user avatar
User #35153397 - 19 Sep 20 02:03
Well said. This movie hits so close to home. Think of how many moments that slipped through your fingers in life. Maybe one of the best movies I’ve ever seen that tackles the fear of aging and regret. I wish Tarantino made more films like this that show his range, but he kinda eventually slipped back into the same formula after this one. Not saying that’s a bad thing though, because of course his other films are incredible. This one just stands out.
user avatar
User #11703285 - 19 Sep 20 01:58
I was initially disappointed that Jackie Brown wasn't Pulp Fiction II but I grew to love it. Have you seen True Romance? Tarantino wrote the script for the movie. I believe the story goes that he completed the scripts for True Romance and Reservoir Dogs and sold one so he could make the other.
user avatar

It's funny, if I wouldn't have known True Romance was written by Tarantino, I swear I would have been thinking wow it feels like Tarantino. Guy had a thing for going to flicks in his hood, Inglewood. I don't know why, but do you ever sort of... pair 2 movies together? Even if they aren't exactly related? I do that with True Romance and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Two good movies. When I think of one, I think of the other.

One movie you might want to add in was technically a Robert Rodriquez one; From Dusk Till Dawn. Tarantino wrote the screenplay and stars in it as George Clooney's psycho brother. Best performance I've seen by him and great writing

Yes, I hope Brandon does "From Dusk Till Dawn" also. I believe Tarantino did actually direct a few scenes in the movie, he also starred in it, and wrote the screenplay, so I've always considered this a Tarantino movie.

Jackie Brown isn't my favorite Tarantino, but it's the one I've come to appreciate more and more as I get older. Robert Forster's performance is one of the best in Tarantino's movies.

Tarantino's cameo in this was pretty subtle, he was the voice of Jackie's answering machine when she was listening to Max's messages leaving his phone numbers. The only movies if I remember correctly where he also plays a character is Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Deathproof, and Django

Bah not sure what's going on here - just rented this off amazon prime to watch along, but its literally moving faster than in your video. I sync up and within a minute I'm a few seconds ahead, sync up again, and within a minute I have to do it again, my credits roll 10 minutes before yours do. No idea why :S I'm assuming some PAL / NTSC thing or something cause I'm in the UK.

This is when, IMO, Hank's transition to Heisenberg is complete. edit: I meant "Walt".

User #10636726 - 17 Sep 20 00:01
Walt?

User #33181238 - 17 Sep 20 00:11
HA! Yeah, I meant Walt. That would have been a WHOLE different show...that I wouldn't mind watching either.

This is my personal favorite BB episode. A lot of good whispered dialogue and the best twist ending in TV history (until the next 2 seasons :P)

Mike's Half-Measures story wasn't about intimidating Walt, it was about him not taking anymore half-measures with Jesse. for him to just get Jesse arrested would just be postponing getting rid of what Mike, Gus, and even Saul think is the problem: Jesse. in Mike's story, he was basically telling Walt that he wishes he had just killed that guy and then his wife wouldn't have died. instead of taking that full-measure, he took a half-measure and that woman ended up dead. Mike was trying to tell Walt that he needs to stop taking half-measures with Jesse because if he doesn't, someone is just going to get hurt. that monologue is one of my favorites from the entire show.

This is my favorite episode of the season. Mike's Half-measures story is one of the best monologues in the show.
user avatar
User #29165140 - 16 Sep 20 21:10
Probably one of the best TV monologues ever.
user avatar
User #20647763 - 16 Sep 20 22:28
It's ranks right there below every Rust Cohle monologue. So still one of the greatest in TV history

I love this episode. If it wasn't clear enough already, now it's for certain that Walt sees Jesse as his second son... maybe not unconditionally and definitely not traditionally, but still. I mean this man went from having a lovely family dinner, safe in his house with his wife, son and baby daughter to running two men over and shooting one point blank in the head. Not only did he risk himself but possibly his entire family considering that Gus can take revenge to extreme levels. Walter knows that for sure. But making sure Jesse stayed alive was more important... I've seen this so many times and I still can't get over that. I feel like it's not only about Walt caring about Jesse but I feel like Walter has got this idea in his head that if Jesse dies, he has ultimately failed at what he originally wanted to do. Jesse was his only partner when he started and he never intended it to go beyond that (at the time he obv. didn't know the business doesn't work that way) and if Jesse dies, Walter can't ever come out of this "clean". It's like he's accepted that people have and will die if he chooses to go down this road but if his family gets hurt, he has failed.

User #513484 - 20 Sep 20 06:57
I feel the same way! Walt has felt for a very long time that Jesse is like a son to him and he cares about him so much, it's so obvious. you can see it in the episode where Jane dies when Walt is talking to Jane's dad. and Jesse definitely sees Walt as a parental figure. you can see it in the Fly episode when Jesse thinks Walt's cancer is back and he's telling the story about his aunt, and then when Walt passes out, the way he tucks Walt in and closes the door, you can tell there's love there. I love their relationship because even when they fight, you can see that they still really care about each other.
