Hello! Thank you for using yiff.party!

We hope you enjoy using it. yiff.party operates on a non-profit basis, and as such, all the server expenses are paid by our users. We don't want to run ads or infect you with crypto miners. We depend on users like you to keep the site running, and to preserve years and terabytes of amazing content—some of which is no longer available from its original creators!

Because of the nature of the site, many users are reluctant to donate. That's OK! yiff.party was created so everyone can enjoy the content we host without any restrictions or paywalls. But if you value the service we provide, and are able to, we—and our users—would be tremendously grateful if you considered making a donation.

Donation progress for February 2020

So far, approximately $0.00 has been raised out of our target of $250.00. We're about 0% of the way there! Please note: this tracker is updated manually—don't worry if your donation doesn't show up immediately!

yiff.party's server costs are due on the last day of each month. So, we need to meet this goal before 29 February!

How to donate?

At this time, yiff.party can only accept donations in numerous cryptocurrencies. Please select a currency below to display the relevant donation address.

Bitcoin (BTC)
Bitcoin Cash (BCH)
Ethereum (ETH)
Ethereum Classic (ETC)
Litecoin (LTC)
Why can't I donate through other means (eg. PayPal)?

Due to the nature of sites like yiff.party, it is very difficult to find payment processors who will accept clients like us. If we were to accept donations via PayPal, it wouldn't take more than a day for someone to submit an abuse report and get our account frozen. Until a viable way of accepting monetary donations becomes available, cryptocurrency will remain the only option.

There are many resources available on how to purchase crypto. For Bitcoin, check out bitcoin.org's page on buying Bitcoin for a list of methods. For beginner Bitcoin users, yiff.party recommends using an escrow service such as LocalBitcoins.

Well, the Rough Stuffers have done it again! In this episode, they cast their spell and dispel the shell of David Bell who in his youth raised some hell. It all makes sense: the friendships with old men, the improv mosh pits, and the exceptionally powerful cranium. It's also clear that teen Bell would probably still be able to kick all of our asses.

After it got the Switch treatment, the boys gab about the classic Link's Awakening. Adam contrasts it with Ocean's 11 and Michael compares it to Die Hard, but you'll have to listen! to find out how. Don't know about you, but I'm excited! I just threw a pot against the wall! Oh no! My favorite urn!

First, I found the game just...pleasant. As an adult in my 30’s, having a straight forward game that was bright and happy with cheery music was just fantastic. I’m sure that already owning the IP also made this cheaper on the backend, even if I think they had to literally rebuild it from the ground up to work in the Switch. Here’s what really bothers me though is the opportunity cost. What didn’t get made because they chose this game? This is like going to a Michelin star restaurant where you can get a 4 course meal (Breath of the Wild) or have a burger and fries for the same price. It’s probably the most amazing burger and fries and it will still fill you up, but you probably missed out on having something much more amazing.

User #5772964 - 10 Feb 20 13:46
I realize the chance to mention it never came up, but one of the little things I have always loved about this game is how if you steel something from one of the shops, your name is changed to "THIEF" and everyone calls you that. At first you may wonder how everyone would know what you did, but then you realize it is a dream, so I think it is Link's guilt manifesting itself.

I just want to play golden sun again. But the easiest way to do that is illegally. I feel that Nintendo has no real reason not to supply those and other gb and gba titles or recognize that's what a large swath of there consumer base wants.

Get your parenting tips from three comedians, two of which do not have children! Fortunately, Billy Wayne Davis, a parent, stops on by to inform us that he's got this whole parenting thing figured out. Spoiler: it's not how Viggo Mortensen raises his kids in this movie. It's not as cool, but it's probably better.

Abe takes the reigns this time to make the case that this jaunty, joust-y film is the jam. Why do we take old stories and dress them up in modern clothing? What's the point? Adam is also there. Sometimes Abe gets too excited and someone needs to settle him down a bit.

Am I crazy or aren't LA Confidential, Mystic River and Man On Fire kind of fairly direct adaptations of the novels they're based on? That might explain why when he got to work on his own original stuff he goes in a completely different tonal direction?

This is a good point. Also, I feel when you're a writer in Hollywood, you're more of a chameleon, adapting your writing style to something already well established. Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule.

Man vs. Nature: A Failed Book Proposal 2020-01-24T02:52:31+00:00close

As some of the concepts we at one time kicked around inevitably age to the point of being not a thing anymore, we here at the Small Beans Beanateria & Beanporium like to share our failed pitches and proposals with our BeanFriends, since one of the goals of this feed is to give you transparent access to our process.

So hey, here's a book pitch conceived and written in late 2015! It's a comedic physics textbook modeled after a military briefing. The pitch includes an explanation of our goals and layout of the entire tome (the first part), as well as a full sample chapter (the second part). Michael drew the illustrations and wrote the pitch itself as well as the sample chapter, while Griffin Rowell was the project's information/research lead. Luke McKinney was attached to co-write and was at all the meetings, but since we could never find a publisher, didn't really get to insert himself as much as we might have liked.

Honestly, it's quite good. Not sure why no one picked it up. So scroll around if you think looking at a polished book proposal sounds interesting, or just skip to the sample chapter and consider it a super-long bonus Cracked column from the ol' Swaimer.

I'm glad that I got to jump on board this from the get go. I've enjoyed all the Coen brothers movies I've seen except Intolerable Cruelty which I didn't enjoy at the time but haven't seen since it was in theaters so my perception may be flawed. I was a little surprised at some of the rankings and despite the feelings on rankings in general, I still like doing that if for nothing else but to stir dialogue. I'm looking forward to the next phase of this podcast but I won't spoil it for everyone who didn't get through the three hour podcast. I'm still working on Vonneguys but finding the time to read a book is more challenging than sitting though a reasonably paced movie. Thanks for the content guys!

This patreon-only early access release gives you Michael, Abe, and Tom Reimann yappin' about the absolutely batshit insane movie "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover" starring Michael Gambon and Helen Mirren. The gang determines it's all one elaborate shitting joke. Did we mention it is considered high art?

A hearty shout-out to John Harty for using the Pick The Flick patreon tier and picking this film for the episode. What a guy!

Although that title was too long, so Swaim titled it something about 'Gen Z' instead, and is now getting savaged in the comments for being an old dude trying to Poochie his way into a Gen Z space and shill Sonic. That's not at all what the video's about, but this IS Swaim typing in the third person, and he IS an old dude, and if you're reading this and are under 15, go fucking buy Sonic Mania at once.

Everyone who's not now occupied running out to buy Sonic Mania, hope you enjoy the video!

Suspense and Surprise have always gone hand in hand for directors. For the most part, Spielberg isn't a horror or thriller director, but that's all in how you frame it.

Abe and Michael do their dance with the 2008 Israeli animated documentary film, its inspection of how we're hardwired to design our own past memories, and its thoughts on the nature of war. Tons of jokes in this one, folks.

Shout out to Zac Schwartz for this month's Pick The Flick tier! You're a real M.V.Bean.

Warning: Michael's recording software went a little haywire. It's not too bad and we had our top people on it, but there's some audio clicking at times.

This is another movie I only watched for the first time earlier this year -- it was recommended by the same friend who recommended Synecdoche NY -- and I'm pleased to hear it affected you guys as much as it did me. Gotta be honest, even though I gave you guys a list to pick from, this is the one I was hoping you'd select, so it seems like that worked out perfectly.

Another great episode guys! Also, the only other animated documentary Ive seen that's along the same lines as Waltz is "the tower" which is rotoscoped footage of the Charles Whitman clock tower shooting spliced with reenactments and interviews.

Michael and Adam undress and take a bath in the world of The Witcher 3. Things get spicier when they talk about the relative attractiveness of peasants in medieval times. When Geralt puts on that bear armor, hoo boy, take me to the unclear afterlife that is kinda canon!

Hey guys. Hopefully you'll see this. You mentioned in this episode an index of your historical keep or delete votes. I've been re-listening to all the 1Upsmanship episodes and I'm assembling a spreadsheet. Keeping track of each of Michael and Adam's votes, guest vote, the Metacritic score for the game and the developer. Let me know if you want me to send that over and how, and if you want me to track anything else. Might not be done for a few days because I'm only on the RDR1 episode but I'll get there. Happy New Year!

Incredible news! If you're game, please track other games we reference but don't cover, and who referenced the game and whether they referenced it positively or negatively. Thinking with that plus the info you're already tracking, we can do a special lookback episode where we accuse each other of hypocrisy and inconsistency. That'll be funnnnnnn!

Really it's more of an investigation of what we can learn about primal human wants and fears from the fact that post-apocalyptic fiction is so specifically prevalent in the medium that's distinguishing feature is you get to interact with it. Why is The End Times a detailed computer simulation we crave? Swaim had some thoughts, and presents them in what is definitely the IGN vid he's worked the hardest on thus far, and one that will likely appeal to Beanfam, Cracked-heads, and Musketeers alike!

Description
From Death Stranding, to Fallout, to The Last of Us, looming or recent apocalypses figure heavily in games of every genre, era, and budget. What is it about the end of the world (or its aftermath) that we find so compelling in our interactive entertainment? And what does it say about us, our interests as people, and our common fears as a global culture of gamers? IGN staffer Michael Swaim has some thoughts on the matter, and will totally come to your house and cry if you question any of them. #ign

Adam brings his director knowledge to explain the tactics Soderbergh uses to lure the viewer into complacency. It might be sly editing, pacing, or shot design. Abe chimes in every now and then to remind him it isn't any of that and the real culprit is demon spells and ghouls, probably.

It also had an exorcist vs. demon battle with some surprisingly catchy drums~ Also, as soon as l heard ‘ghost p***y’ l laughed so loudly and so suddenly that l startled several passerby XD

I’m having a laugh about the punch vs slap conversation because the only person I’ve ever punched got hit because he slapped me. Accuracy seems to be an issue for we novice punchers as I didn’t hit him in the face like I wanted to but I’m blaming that on the guy turning his head when he saw me swing. I hit his ear, he ran home bleeding and his mom came over later and I felt very bad for hitting him.

For what it's worth—I was saying bye to this woman I was interested in, but she had a sachel/backpack, so when I went to hug her, I was looking for purchase and accidentally grabbed her butt. I was super embarrassed and I apologized the next time we talked but she said she thought I was just being fresh. That was 6 years ago and we've been dating since.

Sometimes, in his role as a Video Programmer at IGN, Michael is tasked with hastily but thoroughly researching a pop culture topic, then explaining it to another staffer who plays the "n00b" as an excuse for us to unpack our favorite lore, have a little fun, and explain little bits of Star Wars canon that may not be known to those too busy to have seen all of Clone Wars. Then we post it to Youtube and everyone who's already seen Clone Wars (who by definition the video is not for) gets really upset that they sat and watched a whole thing about stuff they already know. Sounds like a them problem to the Bean-Boys. At any rate, here's a video!

I watched this a few weeks ago out of excitement for this episode! The music is so good! Adam Driver repeating "Outer Space" with that goofy face was freakin' hilarious! That cat stole the show! Can't wait to listen. :) Thank for doing these y'all. I've really enjoyed getting to see a lot of these movies for the first time (I'd only seen "Fargo," "No Country," "O Brother," and "Lebowski" before), and getting to hear two experienced filmmakers appreciate these works for the well-crafted gems they are has deepened my own appreciation immensely.

Maybe at some point you should do a run through his entire filmography. It would be a fun mix of occasional misfires, some interesting to revisit movies that are fine, and very good movies. Just throwing it out there, because it's an idea I quite like.

Just wanted to pop in to say I'm very happy with how this turned out. Also, a few of my favorite lines: "In the words of the late great Nat King fucking Cole, unforeseeable, that's what you are." "What did you expect? They're BUILDERS! Have-- have you ever seen a film where the hero is a builder? No? No, because they never FUCKING TURN UP IN THE NICK OF TIME! Batbuilder? Spider-builder? Huh? That's why you never see a superhero with a hod!" Simon Foster: "It'll be easy peasy lemon squeezy." Toby: "No it won't! It'll be difficult difficult lemon difficult!" "You're a real boring fuck. I'm sorry, I know you disapprove of cursing, so I'll sort it out. You are a boring F star star cunt." "Twelve thousand troops. But that's not enough. That's the amount that are going to die. And at the end of a war you need some soldiers left, really, or else it looks like you've lost." "I cannot stand to see a woman bleeding from the mouth. It reminds me of country western music, which I cannot abide."

Had to see the 1958 version to know, and yeah it's ok. Look, any studio movie from before, say, 1972 is going to be bad. Everything is going to be staged and lit like a community theater play, everyone is going to shout their lines in an accent that doesn't exist, the pacing is just about stand still, and the audience is given zero credit. Favorite moments: the French watchman (I guess everyone is meant to be French, but the only one who does ze fransh haccent) reactions, the guy saying how amazing it is to watch a baseball game from New York in Montreal at the exact same time (they're in the same time zone), and when he goes "oh hey kitty, what a surprise! I bet you'd like a saucer of cream! Good thing I have this saucer and little cup of cream on my desk, as all scientists do when working overnight in their lab," and of course "heeeelp meeee! heeeelp meeee!" A remake with a little more adherence to the original but with modern film making might be better than Cronenberg, but the man has to talk about The Flesh. He takes inspiration from other works, but makes them his own. His adaptation of Naked Lunch isn't faithful either, but uses certain elements.

I was scarred by this movie as a kid. One time, when I was about 5 and my brother was about 3, we left the TV on, while we were rewinding a movie, and the VCR had set the TV to a channel that was playing this movie. We were transfixed and horrified.

Two Americans chew some back bacon (the comedy and cultural relevance of 1983's Strange Brew and how it shaped their comedic sensibilities). For all its flaws, this retelling of Hamlet as the story of two hosers hunting for beer is arguably one of the best comedies ever made. So, grab some corn and um, uh- it's podcast time.

I haven't seen Strange Brew but now I'm curious about it. In the conversation about movies breaking the established rules of the movie and the originators of that style, the ending of Blazing Saddles should be considered. Leaving the western mid brawl to suddenly be in the back lot of a studio and eventually an actual showing of the movie is a nice Mel Brooks touch that hadn't really been done before that I can think of.

Yes, you, specifically.

As the results of the below poll indicate, MOST of you would prefer we sort the Swaim-related IGN stuff from the rest and put it on this feed. So here's the most recent, but helpfully tagged with "[IGN]," which will be the case with this type of content going forward!

All of our podcasts and sketch series (with the Big Exception of Off Hours) continue unabated, will soon return, or are in the works and you aren't even aware of their existence yet because we're launching new stuff too!!!!

On The Fence: Should You Play Death Stranding?

Description
Still on the fence as to whether to play Death Stranding? After all, IGN USA gave it a pretty mediocre score, presumably as part of some vast conspiracy designed to persecute you specifically! But let's say you're a reasonable human being, who just wants their limited amount of time and money to go towards games that kick ass. And you've heard a lot about Death Stranding, on both sides. To some, it's another visionary masterwork from Hideo Kojima, or as the ancients called him, "The Unassailable One." To others, it's a boring, self-indulgent slog. If YOU'RE struggling to finally make up your mind two weeks into its release, this is for you. All the arguments, Pro and Con, in a succinct and frankly paranoia-inducing video to help you navigate the tricky terrain of Death Stranding without turning an ankle. Hold onto both triggers, people...it's going to be a bumpy ride. #ign #gaming #deathstranding

I'm guessing he probably had a hand in making this even if he wasn't on the screen. I assume he wants to send in whatever he's a part of there since he knows it's taking some of his time from small beans. He might have come up with the concept of the video or had something to do with editing or whatever. I just clicked through to see if a Swaim popped up and then moved on haha. It would be interesting to know if he's doing scripts or concepts for them that he just might not appear in.

My takeaway is, if I'm contributing to Small Beans creators my preference would be to receive their material. I maybe missed a detail here, but this seemed like all IGN. I'm thrilled for Mike's new opportunity and if there are IGN channels on social media he would like us to follow, by all means let us know but I feel like I'm in an awkward position as a supporter. I don't know what the behind the scenes are and if we should expect more of this but it wasn't what I was hoping for when I followed the link. Small Beans is a great source for content and I have been a supporter since the beginning. I will continue with, I'm just asking for a little clarity on whether general IGN content will be regularly sent to Small Beans patrons? Edit- At the time I wrote this, the link led to two people talking about a Rick & Morty D&D game with Swaim nowhere in sight. It appears that has been corrected invalidating my comment. My concern wasn't a drop in Small Beans comment, but that IGN was going to utilize the Bean network to push content none of us signed up for.
user avatar
SmallBeans - 20 Nov 19 06:52
Actually, we are releasing the same amount of Small Beans content as we ever did! An average of one video a month, and 7 - 8 podcasts a month. All that's changed is that Off Hours won't be one of those videos in the near future. So if you're just here for Off Hours, we don't blame you, it's a great show. But if you have the impression that IGN work has subtracted from Small Beans otherwise, check the scoreboard! NOW, the question of whether we should clog up the Small Beans Patreon page with every IGN video Mike makes is a different matter. Some have asked that we do, so they don't miss any Swaim content and DON'T have to sub the IGN feed. Some, like yourself, wish we'd keep it strictly Beans Business. We'll run a poll to see who wins and go with that! Your support still makes our 8 monthly pods and monthly sketch possible, and there IS a point at which we wouldn't be able to do it anymore, so we hope that's worth 1 - 5 dollars a month to ya. If not, hope you'll enjoy anyway! -- Swaim
user avatar
SmallBeans - 20 Nov 19 06:54
ADDENDUM: We are in a transitional period, so right now our only Patron-only bonus is getting one pod a month a month early. We are in the process of developing a new video series and a massive podcast/radio-show project that will also release to Patrons significantly early. Once I find a little more balance in my new role and city, streams will uptick as well, some of which will be Patron-only. Thanks for your patience!

Believe it or not, MK actually tried to do a Smash Bros. Ultimate with every fighter back in '06. It was... okay. Don't get me wrong, they definitely tried, but the hardware back in the day just wasn't up to snuff. A lot of the character models, voices, and stages were lifted directly from the last two games, and nobody had unique fatalities. It did some things right though, there was a decent story mode, an awesome character creator, and a fun Mario Kart style minigame.

The youtuber Maximilian Dood has really insightful videos on the nature of fighting games. He goes pretty deep into how game franchises change over time and interactions between the the games and the scene. One of the things I really enjoy about his work is he presents his thoughts with conviction of someone who really loves the genre but doesn’t try to “gate keep”.

Really late to the party here, but fun story: I worked at the Warhol Museum right when Michael Alig got out of jail. He sent my boss (the museum's director) a TON of art that he'd done as a gift. A lot of people sent my boss random shit, so I started writing his thank you note when I realized who I was typing it out to. I ran into his office and was like "how do you know Michael Alig?" He goes "that name is familiar...he's famous, right? In New York?" I was like "yeah, he's a murderer!" My boss asked for a minute alone, then called saying "we don't need a thank you note for that one." And that's how I learned Michael Alig was out of jail.

Loved the episode, but I wanted to point out something to Michael. That dialogue you loved? “I call that bold talk for a one eyed fat man!” That is word for word taken from the original John Wayne version. You’re appreciating the wrong screenwriter.

While Small Beans will continue pumping out pods, sketches, and new and exciting streams and modules for our Patrons, we figured we'd also keep you abreast of what's going on over at IGN. It's this! 5 (Other) Amazing Marketing Stunts From Gaming

Description
Fortnite's Black Hole Event was the perfect set-up for the release of Chapter 2, but Epic Games are far from the first developers to try their hand at viral marketing stunts. From Apex Legends, to Mass Effect 3: Space Edition, to the Nintendo Power Glove, gaming has a proud tradition of trying wacky crap to get you even more hyped for a product launch. Here are some notable examples from the history of gaming.

I'm surprised you didn't include the marketing for Dante's inferno which involved inciting people to commit the seven deadly sins, take photos and share them. Also an actual goat sacrifice that was planned at one of the live event.s

For the "greater good," Michael and Abe are joined by Shawn DePasquale of Bunny Ears fame to talk about the British action-comedy Hot Fuzz. The little hand says it's time to rock and roll and the amount of carnage and mayhem and will incur a considerable amount of paperwork.

In this special episode of Frame Rate, the scooby gang covers its first ever episode of television, Buffy the Vampire Slayer's "The Body" from season five. Caroline Anderson joins Michael and Abers in dissecting the episode, much like the cold, heartless forensic pathologists that will dissect Buffy's mom!

!!! Yes!! GOAT episode of television. I practically learned how to feel grief from listening to Anya’s speech, up till then I just knew I hated that feeling of losing people, but then she gave that speech and I cried and was like “she said it right and I feel better." can't wait to listen to this, thanks for making it!
